FM, Iranian, Qatari counterparts discuss latest developments in region
Basant Ahmed Two phone calls took place on Friday, June 13, 2025, between Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, with His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, and Mr. Abbas Araqchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran. They discussed developments in the region following the military attacks launched by Israel on a number of sites inside Iranian territory early this morning. During the two calls, views and assessments were exchanged regarding the repercussions of the unjustified and irresponsible Israeli aggression and its dangerous impact on the security and stability of the region. During his call with his Iranian counterpart, Minister Abdel Aty emphasized Egypt's rejection and condemnation of the infringement on the sovereignty of states and the violation of their territorial integrity and unity. He stressed the importance of working to de-escalate tensions and prevent the entire region from slipping into chaos and expanding the scope of the conflict. Egypt's FM Meets Syrian Counterpart on Sidelines of Oslo Forum
Taarek Refaat Badr Abdel Ati, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration met with Asaad Al-Shaibani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Syrian Arab Republic, on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Oslo Forum. Tamim Khallaf, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Minister Abdel Aty listened to an explanation from the Syrian Minister regarding the political, security, and economic developments within Syria, as well as the internal and external challenges facing the country recently. On his part, Minister Abdel Aty reiterated Egypt's support for the Syrian people, its support for security and stability in Syria, and the preservation of the unity of its national institutions and capabilities, as well as the unity Abdel Ati stressed the importance of achieving sustainable stability in Syria by working to involve all Syrian national forces in the political process, reflecting the societal, religious, sectarian, and ethnic diversity within Syria. He also emphasized the importance of combating terrorism and addressing the phenomenon of foreign fighters to preserve sustainable stability in Syria. FM meets Cypriot counterpart
Basant Ahmed Foreign minister Badr Abdel Aty met on Wednesday with Constantinos Kombos, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, on the sidelines of the African-European Ministerial Meeting held in Brussels. Abdel Aty praised the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus and emphasized the importance of capitalizing on the political momentum generated following the two fruitful summits held in January 2025 in Cairo, both bilaterally between Egypt and Cyprus and the tripartite summit among Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece. He pointed out to the importance of activating all agreements and memoranda of understanding signed during the last two bilateral and tripartite summits, as well as previous summits, especially the labor agreement signed between the two countries, expressing his aspiration to raise the level of relations to broader horizons in various fields. The Egyptian foreign minister praised Cyprus' support for Egypt in various European Union institutions, particularly with regard to the European financial package provided to Egypt. He expressed his aspiration to intensify cooperation during the Cypriot presidency of the European Union in the first half of 2026, particularly amid the elevation of relations between Egypt and the European Union to a comprehensive strategic partnership. The two ministers exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, most notably the Palestinian issue. Abdel Aty briefed his Cypriot counterpart on Egypt's efforts to restore the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid. FM Praises Qualitative Leap in Egyptian-Tunisian Bilateral Relations
Taarek Refaat Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration praised the recent qualitative leap in Egyptian-Tunisian bilateral relations, stressing the commitment to enhancing joint cooperation in various fields between the two countries. This came during a meeting held by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Friday, in Tunis with Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Tunisians Abroad. The Minister of Foreign Affairs praised the results of the sixth session of the Joint Trade and Industry Committee, chaired by the Ministers of Trade of the two countries, held this April. These meetings will contribute to advancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries and achieving mutual benefit. Minister Abdel Aty emphasized the importance of maximizing the benefits of existing cooperation frameworks between the two countries, continuing the regular convening of joint bilateral committees, particularly the Political Consultation Committee at the level of the foreign ministers of the two countries, and exploring opportunities for trilateral cooperation in Africa. He noted Egypt's keenness to advance bilateral relations between the two countries in various fields and to continue coordination and cooperation in the consular field. He expressed his aspiration to continue joint coordination and cooperation within various regional and international forums to achieve mutual interests. Meanwhile, the two ministers discussed the ongoing developments in the Middle East, exchanging views on the most prominent issues in the Arab world, most notably the Palestinian issue. Minister Abdel Aty reviewed Egypt's efforts to resume implementation of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, which would contribute to achieving calm and restoring access to humanitarian and relief aid to the Gaza Strip. During the talks, the two ministers discussed the Arab-Islamic plan for early recovery and reconstruction with the presence of Palestinians on their land and future efforts to support the plan with international actors. The two ministers also addressed developments in Libya, where they agreed on the need to support the Libyan-Libyan solution without external dictates or interference, and the need to ensure the withdrawal of all foreign forces, mercenaries, and foreign fighters from Libya, which would contribute to restoring security and stability in Libya. They agreed to continue joint coordination, given that Egypt and Tunisia are neighbors of Libya and are directly affected by the situation there. They also discussed developments in Syria, Sudan, and the Sahel region, and agreed on the need for joint cooperation on combating illegal immigration and terrorism, based on the two countries' combined expertise.
