Two nabbed as police cripple drug syndicate in Penang
GEORGE TOWN: Police have busted a drug trafficking syndicate operating in the state with the arrest of two individuals during a raid in the Pulau Tikus and Tanjong Tokong areas last Friday. Timur Laut police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the suspects — a 25-year-old local man and a 20-year-old foreign woman were detained during an operation by the district's Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division at about 9.30pm on July 10. He said the team seized 15 compressed packets of dried leaves, believed to be cannabis, wrapped in transparent plastic. 'The drugs are estimated to weigh 8.2kg and are worth RM25,420. They are sufficient for approximately 16,400 doses,' he said in a statement today. Abdul Rozak said the total value of the drugs and items confiscated during the raid is estimated at RM46,890.50. He said initial investigations revealed the syndicate had been active since early this year and was targeting the local market. 'Preliminary urine tests showed the male suspect tested positive for benzodiazepines. He also has four previous criminal records. The female suspect tested negative and has no prior record,' he added. Both suspects have been remanded for seven days, from July 11 to 17, to facilitate investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with not less than 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. Abdul Rozak said police will continue to intensify efforts to curb drug-related activities and syndicates in the state. 'We will strengthen cooperation with other agencies through information sharing and a holistic approach to combat drug distribution,' he said. No signs of injuries on bodies of mother, toddler found dead in Penang apartment
GEORGE TOWN: There are no signs of physical injuries found on the bodies of a woman and her toddler daughter, whose decomposed remains were discovered in a condominium unit at Jalan Bukit Gambir on Monday (June 30). George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the findings were from the post mortem conducted on the two bodies at Penang Hospital on Tuesday (July 1) "The external and internal examinations revealed no suspicious injuries on the bodies of the deceased,' he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 1). ACP Abdul Rozak said the internal examinations also indicated organ decomposition due to advanced decay, but there were no signs of trauma or foul play. He said based on the post-mortem results, the case remains classified as Sudden Death Report (SDR). On Monday, decomposed bodies of a woman and her toddler daughter were found at an apartment unit in Jalan Bukit Gambir, after police received information from the public at 4.41pm about a foul smell, suspected to be the scent of a decomposing body, coming from the apartment unit. Two arrested for assaulting cop at Penang police HQ
GEORGE TOWN: Two men have been arrested for causing hurt to, and using profanity on, a policeman in front of Penang police headquarters. George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the policeman was on duty when the suspects, aged 19 and 20, entered the compound at about 4.30pm on Sunday (June 22) and were seen behaving suspiciously. "A routine check was conducted, and the suspects were found to be under the influence of alcohol. "They were then brought to the guard post for further inspection," he said here on Monday (June 23). ACP Abdul Rozak said that while they were at the guard post, the suspects allegedly became aggressive. He said one of them punched the policeman on the left cheek and the other bit him on the chest, while also hurling abuse at him. Both suspects were then arrested and have been remanded until Wednesday (June 25) for investigations, he added. The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for using offensive language.

Police track down cable theft suspect, seize vehicle in Sungai Petani
GEORGE TOWN: A swift police operation to track down a suspect involved in the theft of Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) cables led to the seizure of a pickup truck in the Permata Hill Park residential area in Bedong, Sungai Petani, Kedah, early this morning. Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the incident occurred at around 3.44am when police received information about a cable theft at Flat Taman Nusantara here. "A police team was immediately dispatched to the scene and found that the vehicle, believed to have been used by the suspect, had fled towards Lebuhraya Tun Lim Chong Eu. "A patrol car managed to locate and pursue the suspect's vehicle from the entry ramp of the first Penang Bridge heading towards Seberang Prai, before the suspect accelerated onto the North-South Expressway heading north," he said in a statement today. Abdul Rozak said police attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect refused to comply and continued to flee. "The suspect eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch beside the Permata Hill Park residential area in Bedong. "The suspect then fled into a nearby forested area. "An inspection of the vehicle found several tools believed to have been used to cut cables, as well as several cut cables in the back of the vehicle," he added. Abdul Rozak said the case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft. Police are actively tracking down the suspect.

Penang cops on hunt for cable thief who fled on foot after car chase
GEORGE TOWN: The police are on the lookout for a suspect who fled the scene during a cable theft that resulted in a car chase to the mainland. George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the incident occurred when they received a call at 3.44am on Wednesday (June 4) about a (Tenaga Nasional Bhd) cable theft at the Taman Nusantara Flats in George Town. "Police personnel that responded to the call discovered a pick-up truck which fled from the scene, heading towards the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway. "The police patrol vehicle was able to track the suspect's vehicle and pursued it from the entrance of the Penang Bridge heading towards Seberang Perai. "The suspect's vehicle then fled towards the North-South Highway, heading north. "Police personnel tried to stop the suspect's vehicle but the suspect did not obey the police officers' instructions," he said in a statement on Wednesday (June 4). ACP Abdul Rozak said in the end, the suspect's vehicle skidded into a ditch in Bedong, Sungai Petani, Kedah. "The suspect then got out of the vehicle and fled into the nearby jungle area. "We have seized the suspect's vehicle and upon inspection have found that there was a cable cutter and several cables that had been cut at the back of the vehicle. "We are investigating this case under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and are tracking down the suspect," he said.
