CAA now among top 5 govt earners with RO 105 million
MUSCAT: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) recorded the highest revenue in its history, contributing RO 105 million and placing it among the top five government entities in terms of contributions. This was revealed by Eng Nayef bin Ali al Abri, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), during a press conference, which was held on Wednesday to highlight CAA's and aviation sector's progress report of 2024, under the auspices of Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information. CAA also launched an updated meteorology website and mobile app with a colour-coded alert system during the annual media meeting. Oman was ranked 5th globally in the Effective Implementation Index of Air Safety Oversight, with a compliance rate of 95.95 per cent, reinforcing global confidence in Oman's aviation system. Other achievements included the activation of the southern runway at Muscat International Airport, approval of the national civil aviation policy and the signing of nine air transport agreements. The Authority also issued a regulation to protect passenger rights and introduced licences for UAV (drone) air traffic management and registration. The approval of emergency and evacuation plans, commissioning of a new navigation radar in Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, operational readiness of Duqm and Marmul airports and operational permits granted to 19 foreign airlines were the also highlights of last year. As part of its digital transformation efforts, the CAA rolled out 113 e-services, activated an Electronic Document and Records Management System (EDRMS) and achieved ISO 27001 certification for information security. It also launched projects such as the upgrade of Oman's Numerical Weather Prediction systems and a new Wadi Flood Index. Operational statistics showed significant growth as the passenger numbers increased by 2 per cent compared to 2023. Air cargo volumes reached 150,118 tonnes. 540,300 aircraft crossed Omani airspace, marking a 14-per cent increase, The Authority issued 17,182 flight permits and 2,112 obstacle clearance permits and It activated 80 weather monitoring stations, including two new installations. The development of the aviation sector is not just about numbers; it's a long-term investment in Oman's future and its place in the global aviation landscape.

Cooperation between ROP, local media outlets lauded
NIZWA: Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information, met on Wednesday with a number of commanders of the Royal Oman Police (ROP) at the Officers' Institute of the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences in the Wilayat of Nizwa. The meeting was attended by Lt Gen Hasan bin Mohsin al Shraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs. During the meeting, Dr Abdullah reviewed the foundations, current state and future prospects of Omani media, emphasising its role in strengthening national security. He highlighted the importance of security media in conveying police messaging and the media's approach to various events and emergency situations. He also touched upon governorates media, foreign media, the Government Communication Centre and the roles of the Directorate General of Publications and Artistic Works. He affirmed that Omani media is rooted in national values and principles, reflecting the nation's commitment to achieving comprehensive development goals, building national identity and fostering social cohesion. The minister noted that Oman Vision 2040 opens new horizons for media institutions to adopt modern technologies and enhance digital media content. Media plan for Khareef Dhofar Season highlighted
SALALAH: A coordination meeting held on Thursday at Dhofar Municipality in Salalah reviewed the implementation mechanisms of the media plan and preparations for covering Khareef Dhofar Season 2025 events. This comes as part of ongoing coordination between the Ministry of Information and relevant government entities to highlight the season and the governorate's tourism potential through local and international media platforms. The meeting was attended by Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information, Ahmed bin Mohammed al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, and several officials. Discussions focused on the approved media plan for the khareef season, which includes coverage through Oman TV and Radio, Oman News Agency (ONA), the "Ayn" platform, digital media and private media outlets. Minister highlights Ayn for kids as knowledge hub
MUSCAT: Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information has affirmed that the Ministry of Information's launch of the Kids' Interface on Ayn platform is inspired by the vision of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and his dedication to nurturing Omani children and developing their potential. In a press statement, he said: 'This is a strategic step towards creating meaningful media content for children, who represent a vital part of Oman's future. This interface is not just a source of entertainment, but a comprehensive learning space that supports the psychological, educational and moral needs of Omani children, while staying aligned with global digital developments.' He added: 'Today's children are active contributors to knowledge and the future. That's why the Kids' Interface was designed to provide content that speaks their language, sparks curiosity and strengthens Omani identity and values. It features illustrated stories, simple educational programmes and engaging audiovisual materials that help develop thinking, language and communication skills in an age-appropriate and appealing way.' 'We believe that building a strong society starts in childhood. The interface offers a safe, enjoyable alternative that connects children to their heritage, their identity and life in Oman. Looking ahead, we plan to expand its features by adding interactive educational games that support creative and innovative learning,' pointed out Dr Abdullah. The launch took place during the opening of the 29th Muscat International Book Fair under the auspices of HH Sayyid Dr Fahd bin Al Julanda al Said, Vice-Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University, in the presence of Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information. The platform aims to enrich child-focused media content by providing youth with knowledge resources that shape their awareness, develop their personalities and strengthen their national identity. It offers content that reflects Omani culture and values while nurturing future-ready generations capable of engaging effectively with modern technology. Ayn for Children features diverse educational, entertainment and cultural content, including cartoons, programmes, audio content, audiobooks and other age-appropriate materials for children aged 4 to 18. Dr Amal Mohammed al Nawfali, Director General of Digital Media at the Ministry of Information, stated that the platform delivers a carefully designed digital edutainment experience with an intuitive, child-friendly interface featuring vibrant colours inspired by the Ayn platform. Ministry of Information launches digital platform for children
Muscat – Ministry of Information launched a digital platform called 'Eye for Children' on Thursday at the opening of the 29th Muscat International Book Fair with the objective of enhancing media content for children and supporting their personal and national development. Targeting the four to 18 age group, the platform offers educational programmes, cultural information, cartoons, audiobooks and audio content. It seeks to promote awareness, preserve Omani culture and values, and help young people engage meaningfully with modern technology. The launch event was held under the patronage of H H Sayyid Dr Fahad bin al Julanda al Said, Vice-Chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University, in the presence of H E Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information. Dr Amal bint Mohammed al Nofliya, Director General of Electronic Media at the ministry, described 'Eye for Children' as 'a carefully developed digital experience that combines education and entertainment'. She noted that the platform's interactive and accessible design is intended to appeal to young users and also engage with children with visual and hearing impairments. The platform allows children to create personal accounts, choose favourite cartoon characters as avatars, download content for offline use, and search and resume programmes. It also includes a section dedicated to content created by children, encouraging young users to share ideas and develop media skills.
