Over-running meeting webcasts cost Aberdeen City Council £12,000
Over-running and extra council meetings in Aberdeen have cost the local authority nearly £12,000 in additional webcasting costs over the past two years.A report to go before councillors on Wednesday will call on them to review proposals to address the amount of adjourned, reconvened and requisitioned City Council is looking to address the issue due to the costs of the extra meetings having to be called, and sessions regularly running into new days or beyond their allocated time. Concerns have been raised about the impact this has on the council's ability to conclude business, and on councillors' and officials' time. Aberdeen City Council has a £26,691-a-year contract for webcasts - based on 120 live between the 2023 financial year and the end of 2024/25 the live streams went 173 hours over cost the council an additional £11,882 over that period, a cost of £68.68 per have called 13 special or requisitioned meetings over the past report suggests "this could be managed better".

Burst main in Aberdeen closes road and affects water supplies

Aberdeen weekend night bus services to return
Aberdeen City Council announced it has awarded First Bus a contract to provide services for five routes from the city centre on weekends from the evening of Friday, June 27, for the next three years. The reintroduction of the night bus services follows on from the successful pilot service over the 2024 festive season. All services will operate on Friday night and early Saturday morning and Saturday night and early Sunday morning only, from midnight to approximately 3.30am. He said: 'The return of the night buses will be welcomed by businesses in the city centre and are part of our Purple Flag status for city centre safety and vibrancy. 'The Aberdeen City Council move will help to support businesses by giving people another transport option for getting home.' The night bus services will be funded by bus lane enforcement revenue. The local authority said single fares will apply on the service and that people will be allowed to use both concessionary and Under 22's National Entitlement Cards on the service. He said: 'The night bus service over Christmas and New Year was popular. I am delighted the City Council is bringing night bus services back year-round. These services being in place in time for the Tall Ships arriving in the city is a real bonus. 'Over the Tall Ships weekend, many more people than normal are expected to be enjoying the cafes, restaurants, and pubs in the city centre. The night buses will provide safe and efficient transport for visitors to our city centre. 'I hope as many people as possible take advantage of this cost-effective and safe transport to get home.' The routes announced for the service are as follows: N1, City Centre (Alford Place) – Danestone, via Seaton; Dubford and Ashwood N17, City Centre (Union Terrace) – Inverurie, via Great Northern Road, Bucksburn & Dyce N23, City Centre (Bridge Street) – Kingswells, via Summerhill and Sheddocksley N201, City Centre (Bridge Street) – Banchory, via Mannofield; Cults; Bieldside; Milltimber; and Peterculter N18, City Centre (Bridge Street) – Cove/Charleston via Kincorth. David Adam, head of operations at First Bus Aberdeen, welcomed the new service as he said: 'We are delighted to be working with Aberdeen City Council to launch this night bus service in Aberdeen, making it easier for people to get home later in the night, while continuing to support local businesses in the city. 'It's important people have the confidence they will be able to get home safely and affordably when going to enjoy a meal, some drinks or a night out at one of the fantastic venues in the city centre. We hope the introduction of the new night bus routes will do just that.'

Tall Ships Aberdeen 2025 free festival line-up announced
A range of free events are set to take place over a four-day festival between July 19 and 22, as more than 50 vessels are expected to pull into Port Of Aberdeen's North Harbour from the UK, Europe, Oman, Uruguay and Peru. Events offered range from a variety of street food stalls, quayside bars and a STEM discovery zone amongst additional attractions throughout the city centre. (Image: Sail Training International) There will also be free live music offered across three different stages each day, with acts including Scots singer Iona Fyfe, jazz musician Nathan Somevi, and performances by Aberdeen talents AiiTee, Jackill and Chef. Emma Wadee, Aberdeen City Council's Tall Ships project manager, said: 'We know how much the people of Aberdeen love to party – we saw that during the Dons' Scottish Cup victory parade. 'We hope people will turn out in their thousands again to enjoy everything on offer at The Tall Ships Races and help turn the Granite City into Party City from morning to night.' Bus lane and LEZ fine cash to fund 'greening' of city centre
Aberdeen City Council co-leader Councillor Ian Yuill said: 'We are working to make the city centre an even better place for people to spend time. Improvements to street lighting, and to the city centre environment help achieve that.' Net Zero, Environment, and Transport vice-convenor Miranda Radley added: "The budget allocated today will allow the Council, working with partners, to brighten the city centre, improve pedestrian access and encourage more people to enjoy the space we have in the city centre." The Council's Finance and Resources Committee approved in March the funding surplus for bus lane enforcement of £2,635,268 and LEZ £669,000 and that the projects would be agreed by the Net Zero, Environment and Transport Committee. READ MORE: The report to committee said discussions have been ongoing with partners such as Aberdeen Inspired to identify impactful projects that could be progressed and be aligned to the delivery of the wider City Centre Masterplan, using the bus lane enforcement money. These include £200,000 for lighting improvements and £300,000 to enhance the pedestrian environment around Guild Street, and to improve journeys and wayfinding between Union Square and Union Street. In March 2025, Council agreed to spend £200,000 to support the re-establishment of a bicycle rental scheme in Aberdeen to be funded from the LEZ surplus. Discussions have been ongoing between the council's Environmental Manager and partners to consider projects that could be progressed. An additional £71,000 was also allocated by Committee on Wednesday under the 'Greening the City Centre' theme. Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, said: 'We are grateful to Aberdeen City Council for its continued engagement and support on ways to improve the city centre to attract more footfall and help boost the economy. 'We look forward to working with the council on any and all initiatives to help regenerate the heart of the Granite City.'
