Amazon launches 5 new fulfilment centres in India

Amazon India has announced the launch of 5 new fulfilment centres (FCs), adding to its robust operations network in India. The expansion brings the very first Amazon FCs in Indore, Bhubaneshwar, Kochi and Rajpura and another one in Delhi-NCR. With over 1.8 million cubic feet of combined storage space, these FCs will lead to faster delivery of customer orders while also creating thousands of local job opportunities in the region. The new FCs will be operated and managed by strategic partners who are leaders in the logistics industry and will significantly boost delivery speeds for customers across the country. The announcement comes as part of Amazon's goal to invest over $233 million in India in 2025. Amazon India has launched five new fulfilment centres in Indore, Bhubaneshwar, Kochi, Rajpura and Delhi-NCR, adding 1.8 million cubic ft of storage before Prime Day (July 12â€'14). Operated by logistics partners, the expansion aims to speed up delivery, support sellers, and create thousands of jobs. This is part of Amazon's $233 million investment in India for 2025. The expansion will enable sellers to better serve customers by choosing an FC closer to them to ensure faster delivery to customers. The new FCs will also help support the region's economic growth by creating new jobs, including a variety of roles in Amazon's operations network, including full-time and part-time options, the company said on its website. All the 5 FCs are ready and operational ahead of the upcoming Prime Day (July 12-14) and have a combined capacity of over 1.8 million cu. feet, equivalent to about 10 cricket grounds. "We are focused on building and operating India's fastest, safest, and most reliable logistics network that delivers to customers across the country. These five new fulfilment centres represent a significant investment in our operations infrastructure and demonstrate our commitment to our customers and sellers across India," said Abhinav Singh, VP Operations India & Australia . "With Prime Day 2025 approaching, Prime members can look forward to even faster deliveries, with lakhs of items available for same-day or next-day delivery," added Abhinav. Amazon recently announced an additional $233 million in investment as part of its commitment to building India's fastest, safest, and most reliable operations network. The investment will be used to expand and upgrade operations infrastructure, improve associate safety and well-being programs, and develop new tools and technology for its fulfilment network. UP ATS arrests army jawan with 70 AK-47 rounds; says he planned to sell them

LUCKNOW: The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh Police arrested an army jawan who was carrying 70 cartridges of an AK-47 rifle and was reportedly planning to sell them to a friend in the Pallavpuram area of Meerut district in western UP. According to police sources, when the ATS team tried to take him into custody, the army jawan, named Rahul, attempted to escape by dodging the cops. He got into his car and tried to flee by ramming it into the ATS team. However, the officers surrounded him and managed to catch him soon after foiling his attempt. During questioning, Rahul said that he had come home on leave and was trying to deliver the cartridges to his friend. A case was registered at Pallavpuram police station under sections of the Arms Act. The accused is currently posted at the Army Telecommunication Centre in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. Police, ATS, and army officials are jointly investigating the matter. His mobile phone records are also being checked to find out if more people are involved. As per ATS sources, Rahul is a resident of Nangli Azad village under Daurala police station limits. He is currently on leave. Meerut ATS unit inspector Amit Kumar Bhati said that on Tuesday, acting on an informer's tip-off, they were conducting checking under the Delhi-Haridwar bypass Modipur post flyover. During this operation, a Hyundai Venue car was stopped and checked. Inside, 70 restricted cartridges of an AK-47 rifle were recovered from Rahul's possession. During interrogation, Rahul revealed that he is currently posted as a constable in the Army at the CT Battalion MIC & S Training Centre in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. He said that he came on a 30-day leave on June 9. ATS sources further said that Rahul disclosed a friend named Abhinav, who he claimed was with the ATS. Abhinav, a resident of Shastri Nagar, had allegedly asked Rahul for the cartridges back in February, saying he had lost his own.

These were among the people who perished on Thursday after the London-bound Air India flight they were on crashed 33 seconds after taking off from the Ahmedabad airport. They are in shock,' said district collector Namit Mehta. Two other victims from Udaipur were identified as Vardi Lal Chand, a resident of Vallabhnagar, and Prakash Minaria, a native of Rohida. 'Both used to work as chefs in a restaurant in London. They returned home on January 20 on a vacation and were all set to join back in London this week,' said collector Mehta. Banswara-based doctor Koni Vyas, her husband Pradeep Joshi, and three minor children Pradyut Joshi, Nakul Joshi, and Miraya Joshi were also killed. The long shadow of the deadly crash touched the sleepy town of Akola in Uttar Pradesh;s Agra district. Local resident Satish Lavania said his younger brother Neeraj Kumar Lavania and sister-in-law Aparna Lavania were on the ill-fated flight. 'Neeraj had called me on Thursday morning and informed me that he was in a cab on the way to Ahmedabad with Aparna because both were to board the flight for London. They were on a holiday tour and very excited but by evening, all changed,' said Satish Lavania. Satish Lavania runs a shop in Akola. 'Neeraj comes once in a year to Akola and was last here in November 2024 when our father died and he came to attend last rites…Neeraj worked in the Netherlands for an IT firm.' On Wednesday night, London-based Jamie Meek and Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek had shared a series of Instagram stories capturing their final night in India. Jamie reminisced about their 'mind-blowing' experiences, calling their time in India a 'magical experience' as he reflected on their journey. 'It's our last night in India,' he wrote. Jamie, who is also the director of The Wellness Foundry, a London-based centre for tarot and spiritual wellness, said spending their last night at the hotel and enjoying a traditional Gujarati thali was 'a perfect way to round up the trip'. Raju Bhai Halani, a resident of Anand in Gujarat, told HT that his elder brother Badrundin Hasan Ali Halani and his wife Yasmin Badrudin Halani, and another sister-in-law Malekben Rajabali Halani were on board the ill-fated flight. Badrudin is a former member of the Gujarat Waqf Board. He had posted photos of himself from inside the Air India flight earlier today. 'They were all going to London to meet their sons who work there,' said Raju Bhai, as he looked for them at the hospital in the evening. 'I do not know if they are dead or alive. We are looking for them,' he said, and added that he was in Vapi when he got a call from a cousin asking him if Badrudin was on this flight.
