Looking to beat the heat in the Twin Cities? Here's a list of cooling centers around the metro
An excessive heat warning is in place across the Twin Cities metro Sunday as feels-like temperatures surpass 100 degrees. WCCO has issued a NEXT Weather Alert for Sunday due to the dangerous heat, as well as the risk for severe storms. For those looking for a place to stay cool, there are options. The following places have cooling centers open across the Twin Cities for free during business hours: For a complete list of cooling centers open in Hennepin County, click here. Minneapolis also has several free pools, beaches and splash pads to help people beat the heat. To see a map of all the cooling centers and beaches in Ramsey County, click here. To stay cool, experts encourage people to limit time in direct sunlight and drink plenty of water. If you're going to be outside in the heat, doctors encourage wearing loose, light clothing and seeking shade when you can. It's recommended that anyone working or exercising in the elements drink at least one cup of water for every 20 minutes. Older adults, young kids and anyone with underlying conditions are at greater risk from extreme heat. In Minnesota, the number of heat-related hospitalizations spikes at a feels-like temperature of only 86 degrees. Cramps, rapid pulse and dizziness are early signs to watch out for when it comes to heat-related illness. Adam Del Rosso and Aki Nace contributed to this report.

Quiet but cold end to week after snowy Saturday
MINNEAPOLIS — Clear skies and a fresh snowpack have temps below zero area-wide to kick off Sunday. Highs reach the upper teens in the afternoon with wind chills in the single digits. It will be mostly sunny all day. Highs will be in the teens again on Monday and single digits on Tuesday. Grab the shades! Expect a bright, but chilly Sunday with highs this afternoon only in the upper teens. Notice the light breeze will still have wind chills in the single digits. — Adam Del Rosso (@AdamDWeather) February 9, 2025 We turn even colder into the middle of the week as some Arctic air returns. Lows Tuesday morning through Thursday will be well below zero and wind chills will push -20 in the metro. Our next shot at some light snow will be Monday night across southern Minnesota. Otherwise, next week is quieter with a mix of sun and clouds. A slightly better show at snow arrives Friday night into next weekend, but there is still plenty of uncertainty.

Windy, chilly Sunday with warmer week ahead
MINNEAPOLIS — Wind will continue into Sunday morning with feels-like temperatures near or slightly below zero to start the day, but there will be plenty of sunshine. Wind chills will only reach the teens Sunday afternoon with air temperatures pushing 30 degrees. Winds won't be as gusty as yesterday, but they'll still be noticeable, with gusts around 25 mph. Happy Sunday! It's a frigid start to the day, but it'll feel better this afternoon with highs near 30°. Grab the shades if you're checking out the Pond Hokey Championships -- lots of glare on the ice with plenty of sunshine today! — Adam Del Rosso (@AdamDWeather) January 26, 2025 We'll climb well into the 30s on Monday and lower 40s on Tuesday with another slight chance for a flurry Tuesday night. Northern Minnesota has the best chance for snow then. There is uncertainty about just how warm it stays, but daily highs look to stay in the 30s all week, with the possibility of reaching the 40s again on Thursday. There may be a better shot at widespread precipitation come next Saturday, but we're still a week away with plenty of uncertainty and time to fine-tune the forecast.
