Airdrie 0 (2), Cove Rangers 0 (1): Stalemate sees Airdrie stay up

Rhys McCabe's side did enough to get over the line Airdrie retained their Championship status for next season with an aggregate win over Cove Rangers after a 0-0 draw at New Broomfield. Neither side got to grips with a tense game played in scorching temperatures, and at the end of a punishing season for both sides. ‌ Both sides had a good chance in the first half with Lewis McGrattan denied by a fine flying save from Cove's Nick Suman, before Cad Melrose blocked well from Adam Emslie. ‌ The second half was cagey, with few instances of note. Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe made two changes to the side that beat Cove 2-1 at the Balmoral Stadium on Wednesday. Aidan Wilson and Rhys Armstrong came in for Sam Graham and Liam McStravick. Counterpart Paul Hartley made one change to his Cove Rangers side, as Adam Emslie came in for veteran Mitch Megginson. Airdrie threatened in the first minute, but Chris Mochrie headed Adam Frizzell's corner from the right past the near post. The Diamonds went close again in six minutes when Ben Wilson darted down the right and fed Lewis McGrattan, but his shot was well saved by Nick Suman. ‌ Cove went close in 13 minutes when Alex Bannon missed a ball into defence and Adam Emslie had a low shot well blocked at the bottom left corner. Dylan MacDonald didn't connect well enough to a Lewis Strapp cross in 22 minutes as Airdrie threatened again. ‌ Declan Glass tried a curling shot that flew over the top right corner in 41 minutes. Ben Wilson tried to put the result beyond doubt in 73 minutes but curled his shot round the right post. AIRDRIE: Melrose, MacDonald, A. Wilson, Bannon, Strapp, McMaster, Frizzell, McGrattan (Gallagher, 64), Mochrie (McSravick, 59), Armstrong, B.
