Analyzing Adem Bona's performance after summer Sixers fall to Jazz
Adem Bona was an interior force tonight for the 76ers in Summer League16 PTS | 8 REB | 8/11 FGQuick first step and did a great job angling for positioning. Shined in his matchup vs Filipowski The Philadelphia 76ers fell to the Utah Jazz to begin summer league play on Saturday, 93-89. The standout for the Sixers was rookie VJ Edgecombe who impressed with 28 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks as he stuffed the stat sheet in his summer league debut. However, Adem Bona deserves the spotlight a bit. The second-year big man out of UCLA had 16 points, eight rebounds, and a block and had some big moments against Jazz big man Kyle Filipowski. As he continues throughout the summer league, the Sixers will be looking for more of this. Now's the time to look at the good and the bad from Bona's performance against the Jazz: The good His energy and soft touch around the basket was what stood out on Saturday. Bona is like a pogo stick at times and he skied for a big putback on the offensive end while showing off some dribble moves. He flashed some potential as a driver with the basketball in his rookie season, but there was one play, in particular, on Saturday when he jab stepped, took Filipowski baseline, and threw down a slam over his fellow second-year counterpart. Another thing that stands out about Bona is he plays within himself. He knows what he can do and doesn't try to do too much. His ability to finish around the basket and be able to keep the scoreboard moving is a helpful trait. He shot 8-for-11 from the floor against the Jazz and made winning plays all night. The bad Bona had moments during his rookie season when he struggled with fouls and that continued in this contest. One is allowed 10 fouls in the summer league before fouling out and Bona got dangerously close to fouling out as he finished with eight. Some of it was just tough luck as he looks to make the big play on the defensive end to help his team, but a few of them were just silly fouls. If Bona wants to keep a rotation spot in the league, he will have to watch his fouling and give the Sixers a player they can rely on to stay on the floor in that respect.

Player grades: VJ Edgecombe, Sixers fall to Jazz in summer league
The Philadelphia 76ers opened the summer league on Saturday when they faced the Utah Jazz in the Salt Lake City portion of the schedule. The Sixers will play three games in Utah before heading out to Las Vegas on July 10 for at least five games at the campus of UNLV. The summer league is all about development and growth. The Sixers want to see what they have in their youngsters such as rookies VJ Edgecombe and Johni Broome as well as second-year players Justin Edwards and Adem Bona. The summer league is the perfect time for first impressions and the Sixers got some good ones in a tough 93-89 loss to the Jazz. Advertisement Edgecombe had 28 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks, while Broome had 13 points and five rebounds with three of those boards coming on the offensive end. Bona added 16 points and eight rebounds while Edwards added 13 points and Jalen Hood-Schifino gave six and eight assists. Judah Mintz had 11 points off the bench. Here are the player grades following the loss: VJ Edgecombe: A The 3-point shot was a bit shaky, and his ball-handling will need work, but Edgecombe's ability to get to his spots in this one was impressive. His athleticism is off the charts and he showed a controlled offensive game meaning he didn't force much in terms of his own offense. There was a play in the first half when he went coast-to-coast for a vicious slam which is something you just can't teach. His athletic ability is just eye-popping. He was moving all over the place in this one, which led to him essentially running into rebounds due to his never-ending movement. He was in the right place the majority of the night and made plays that will translate to winning. It's summer league, so one has to take results with a grain of salt, but it's hard not to be impressed by the rookie in this one. Johni Broome: B Starting at the power forward spot in this one, Broome showed off a soft touch around the basket and on the perimeter as he knocked down a couple of 3-pointers as he showed off his range. He rebounded well, which is really his calling card, and was especially helpful on the offensive glass. He couldn't grab a rebound in the second half, but he contributed in this one. There is an obvious talent there so the Sixers should tap into his potential. Advertisement Adem Bona: A Well, Bona is still Bona, and that's a good thing! The energy he brought to the floor in this one set the tone for the summer Sixers as he was running from rim to rim to make sure he was in a position to help on both ends and had a ew rim-rattling slams on offense while being in the right position to protect the rim on defense. He was efficient with his offense and was a real presence on the glass. The only real negative for Bona in this one was the foul trouble as he was caught in a few tough positions, but he was terrific in other areas. Justin Edwards: C The second-year forward looked confident on the offensive end in this one. He knocked down a deep triple to start his night and moved well off the ball to get himself an easy look. It wasn't the most efficient night in terms of his field goal shooting, but he got to the line and was able to help on the offensive end in that respect. He just had a tough time converting on his looks in this one, which happens. It's basketball and it's all about moving on to the next shot. Advertisement Jalen Hood-Schifino: C Getting the start at point guard, Hood-Schifino had his struggles against the pressure the Jazz played with on the perimeter. He had a tough time getting the Sixers into their offense and was unable to knock down the open looks that he received. He does deserve credit for his entry passes into Broome to help him get going on the offensive end. Alex Reese: C-plus Looking to build off his run with the Sixers toward the end of the 2024-25 season, Reese helped in the rebounding department and was able to help with the floor spacing. He did, however, have a tough night on the defensive end as the Jazz seemed to hunt him a bit. Advertisement Judah Mintz: B-plus Mintz had his mind on one thing: get to the basket. He did that often in this one as the Jazz had trouble staying in front of him which led to Mintz getting to the foul line and converting on his looks. He averaged 21.2 points in the 2024-25 season playing for the team's G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats, so his scoring mentality is not a surprise. Player grades: Sixers fall to Bucks at home, losing skid now at 10
PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers returned home on Thursday to play host to the Milwaukee Bucks looking to get closer to the finish line. The Sixers are still dealing with a ton of injuries and are hoping they can continue to develop their younger players at the end of a miserable season. The Bucks, still playing for something this late in the season, got off to a slow start as the Sixers led by as many as 17. However, once Milwaukee kicked it into high gear, it was too much for Philadelphia to handle. The Bucks walked away with a 126-113 win sending the Sixers to their 10th straight loss. Advertisement Adem Bona had 28 and six rebounds for the Sixers while Quentin Grimes added 24 points and 10 assists. Guerschon Yabusele added 22 points and six rebounds, Jared Butler had 14 points and four assists, and Justin Edwards had eight and eight rebounds. Here are the player grades following the loss: Jared Butler: B-plus The Bucks had a tough time staying in front of Butler in this one. He did a good job of being able to get to the basket and finish and he was efficient with his 3-point shooting. He made good decisions with the basketball and got the Sixers rolling early on the offensive end. He had been struggling with his shot as of late so it was good to see him get going again with his 3-point looks. Quentin Grimes: A-minus The Bucks did pay a lot of defensive attention to Grimes, but he was able to combat that with his playmaking. He tallied up six assists in the first quarter which allowed the Sixers to get into an offensive groove early and build a large lead against a talented Milwaukee team. He got going with his offense in the second quarter as he continues to show off his ability to put the ball in the basket as the No. 1 option for this group. There were a few moments in this one when he really took control. Meaning he was running things and making sure guys were in the right places. That's growth. Justin Edwards: B It was a solid night for Edwards. Continuing to play a ton of minutes as a rookie, he is powering through the 'rookie wall' and he did a solid job of producing on both ends in this one. He did a good job of manipulating the defense and getting to where he wanted to go on the offensive end. He was terrific on the glass as well being able to come up with some extra possessions for the Sixers. Adem Bona: A-plus It was a helluva night for Bona. Drawing the Antetokounmpo assignment on the defensive end, he had to expend a lot of energy having to defend the 2-time MVP, but that didn't slow him down on the offensive end. He was active around the basket, did an excellent job of cutting, and his athleticism made a difference against an older Bucks team. He powered his way through the defense for an impressive slam over what seemed like the entire Milwaukee team. He is beginning to understand how to produce at this level and he has a bright future in this league. The only word to describe Bona on this night is fantastic. Guerschon Yabusele: A There were some good offensive moments for Yabusele in this one. He knocked down a triple and then took Bucks big man Brook Lopez off the dribble to finish at the basket. He was active defensively and did his best on the glass when considering the size of the Bucks being an issue. Overall, The Dancing Bear made his biggest impact on the offensive end as he knocked down some timely triples and was able to get into a rhythm. His ability to be able to space the floor is going to be a big reason why the Sixers should bring him back in free agency in the offseason. Jalen Hood-Schifino: A The night for Hood-Schifino started with him getting into the mid-range and knocking down a tough shot over some tough defenders. He had a nice night overall being able to pump in some buckets while making plays for others with his passing and being a pest defensively. He also grabbed a couple of rebounds. Lonnie Walker IV: B-plus Walker hopped off the bench and was immediately engaged on the offensive end. He was aggressive in going to the basket and finishing against an indifferent Bucks defense in this one. He has a lightning quick first step and was able to then use his size to get his spots on offense in order to convert on his looks. He was helpful with his playmaking and his rebounding as he did a little bit of everything in this one. Ricky Council IV: D The initial stint for Council didn't produce much. He missed a deep 3-point attempt and grabbed a rebound in that stint, but not much else. He was able to help on the glass and give the Sixers some help in that area, but it was an overall quiet night. Colin Castleton: C Making his debut after being signed to a 10-day, Castleton had a nice assist to start the night. He has previous NBA experience with Memphis and Toronto so he has an understanding of how to play and what to do at this level and he gave the Sixers good production in this one.
