No gazette notification issued for GO 49 implementation: Minister Jupally Krishna Rao

ADILABAD: The state government on Friday sought to allay the fears of the Adivasis and MPs and MLAs in the wake of the issue of GO No 49 related to Kumurambheem Tiger Conservation Project in Kumurambheem-Asifabad district. Prohibition and Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao tried to address the concerns raised by the Adivasi leaders at PMR Hall at the ITDA Utnoor's office. He stressed that no gazette notification had been issued and instructed authorities to refrain from releasing one until further discussions. The minister said he would raise the issue with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Forest Minister Konda Surekha, along with other officials concerned, to arrive at a decision. Meanwhile, a letter purportedly written by spokesperson of the banned Telangana state committee of CPI Maoist, Jagan, on Thursday night alleged that the GO 49, issued by the government on May 5, 2025, was adversely affecting 339 tribal villages in three districts — Mulugu, Kumurambheem Asifabad and Bhadradri-Kothagudem. Responding to the letter on Friday, Panchayati Raj Minister D Anasuya alias Seethakka expressed doubt that the letter was written by the Maoists. The minister said that the letter was written in an abusive language and had become a tool in the hands of her political opponents to target her.

Opposition cries foul over EC's Bihar voter list move, INDIA bloc to challenge it

Patna, 27 June (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday said that the Election Commission of India's announcement of a massive voter list revision in Bihar just before the assembly elections is deeply troubling. It is a mockery of democracy and the Constitution of India, he charged. Addressing a press conference in Patna on Friday, along with other leaders of INDIA Alliance, he announced that they will challenge the decision. They will approach the Election Commission of India soon, he assured. He said 'An attempt to revise the registration list of 8 crore voters in only 25 days raises serious concerns about the integrity of the electoral process. This move fuels suspicions of a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise vulnerable populations, including the poor, marginalised communities, Dalits, Adivasis, and minorities.' Tejashwi added 'Why the voter list revision was not undertaken before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections? If the voter list used in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was valid, no one should question its validity now. If the government is honest in this matter, then it should declare the 2024 Lok Sabha elections null and void.' He said that what's happening in Bihar is a direct attack on democracy, stripping citizens of their basic rights. It's a massive scheme to cut off the poor, the oppressed, and the vulnerable from vital resources such as food, pensions, and student aid. The RJD leader added 'There's a concerted effort by the BJP and RSS to take away constitutional rights, with the RSS specifically advocating for the removal of secularism and socialism from the Indian Constitution.' Bihar Congress President Rajesh Ram accused the central government of attempting to manipulate the Bihar elections, similar to what he claims happened in Maharashtra. He warned that the attempt to reduce the official voter count will be met with strong resistance. Congress's national spokesperson Pawan Khera alleged that the central government has been manipulating the Election Commission to benefit the BJP. Citing media surveys that predict an NDA loss and a potential victory for the INDIA alliance in the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, Khera claimed that the government is trying to disenfranchise the youth due to their discontent over unemployment, exam leaks, and job scarcity. CPI (ML) General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya alleged that this is a conspiracy to rig the election, akin to the demonetisation policy. He argued that voter registration is the Election Commission's duty. He asserted that asking voters to prove their eligibility with documentation is unnecessary given the government's failure to provide birth certificates to every citizen. VIP spokesperson Dev Jyoti termed it a conspiracy to implement NRC. He also alleged that demanding documentation from the poor, backward, and most backward communities is a thinly veiled attempt to disenfranchise them. UNI XC RKM

Lord Murugan conference: AIADMK ‘remained silent' on video clip criticising Annadurai fearing BJP, says Chidambaram

Veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister P. Chidambaram, on Thursday (June 26, 2025) night said the 'silence' maintained by the opposition AIADMK over the derogatory remarks made against Dravidian stalwarts Periyar E.V. Ramasamy and C.N. Annadurai at Lord Murugan devotees conference in Madurai recently only showed the AIADMK was afraid of the BJP. Addressing a public meeting on the occasion of the 102th birth anniversary of Scheduled Caste leader L. Elayaperumal at Kattumannarkovil in Cuddalore, Mr. Chidambaram said the AIADMK dignitaries who attended the conference should have walked out of the venue when a video clip criticising Periyar and Anna was played at the conference. However, the AIADMK was afraid of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and remained as 'slaves' to win the 2026 Assembly election. Referring to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's purported comment that those who speak in English should feel ashamed, Mr. Chidambaram said that 10% of the population in the country speaks English. 'They (BJP) don't want the Dalits, Adivasis and the poor to learn English and attain quality. While the BJP was attempting to prevent marginalised people from learning English, the children of Union Ministers study in foreign Universities in the U.K. and the U.S. People should understand this,' he said. Mr. Chidambaram said untouchability was yet to be fully eradicated in Tamil Nadu. Though untouchability has reduced to some extent in the State due to the rule by Dravidian parties, it is yet to be full eradicated and the fight continues even after 100 years. The recommendations of the Committee on Untouchability, Economic and Educational Development of the Scheduled Castes, headed by L. Elayaperumal is yet to be fully implemented, he added. Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai also spoke.

He alleged that Adivasis, Dalits and Muslims were being depicted as enemies of the nation and the people were being misled. "What is happening in India today is worse than Emergency": D Raja on Samvidhan Hatya Diwas

New Delhi [India], June 26 (ANI): Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D Raja on Thursday criticised the BJP for observing June 25 as Samvidhan Hatya Diwas, saying the current situation in India is worse than the Emergency. He alleged that atrocities against Dalits, Adivasis, and minorities are rising and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP, and the RSS of trying to change the Constitution framed by Dr BR Ambedkar. Speaking to ANI, D Raja said, '...We see increasing atrocities on Dalits, Adivasis, and minorities, including Muslims, every day. What is happening in India today is worse than the Emergency, and never before have we seen such an arrogant, dictatorial rule as we are seeing today. We must understand this. PM Modi, BJP, RSS are trying to change the current Constitution given to us by Dr Ambedkar...' While Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC slammed Congress on the 50th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency and said that Congress jailed opposition leaders, journalists and suppressed the judiciary in 1975. 'Today, June 25, is 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas', the day when the Congress Party destroyed the Constitution. This is the same Congress Party that declared the Emergency without any discussion or debate. Over 1 lakh opposition leaders, journalists, and activists were imprisoned, and the judiciary was suppressed. We are proud that PM Modi has given us our country back and has also shown that no dictatorship will prevail in India. Remembering this, on June 25, the Constitution and its significance come to mind,' Shaina NC told ANI. Meanwhile, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said that the BJP has no right to politicise the Emergency. 'Our CM and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee has told very clearly that whatever happened it was for the time the BJP has no right to do politics on these things because the BJP is attacking the Constitution now,' he said. Between 25 June 1975 and 21 March 1977, India was placed under a state of Emergency under Article 352 of the Constitution. On 25 June 1975, the then-President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed issued the Emergency Proclamation under Article 352, citing threats from internal disturbance. This was the third Emergency in India's history, but the first one declared in peacetime. Earlier proclamations were during wars with China (1962) and Pakistan (1971). (ANI)
