Footballer ‘died taking pills in Ibiza' on first lads holiday as family pays heartbreaking tribute to ‘smiling boy'

A FOOTBALLER has died after "taking pills in Ibiza" on his first ever lads holiday. The 18-year-old's devastated family have paid tribute to the "smiling boy" who tragically passed away on Tuesday after taking an ecstasy tablet on the popular party island. 2 Ryan Long, from Eastwood Essex, reportedly started to feel unwell in the UNVRS nightclub the evening he and his friends arrived on the island. When the group returned back to their rented apartment, the teenager fell unconscious and was air lifted to the Palma De Mallorca hospital. Despite medics best efforts, however, Ryan tragically died just five days later after suffering from acute organ failure. His parents, Adrian and Angel Long, have since spoken about the devastating loss of their son and have urged other teenagers to think twice before dabbling with drugs. In an emotional plea, they warned, it's "not worth taking the risk". Adrian told the Mail Online: "Everyone thinks nothing is going to happen to them but unfortunately it does. He's not going to be the first and he won't be the last." He added: "Ryan obviously didn't know anything about it at the end, but he's left his mates absolutely traumatised. They witnessed him going downhill and going unconscious." Described as a "lovely lad" who was "always full of life" and "smiling", Ryan was also an avid footballer and swam for his county. Ben Bradford, owner of local football club, Ben Bradford Goalkeeping Academy (BBGK), has since set up a GoFundMe page to help support the lad's grieving family. In a heartfelt post, Ben called on the community to band together and "show their love" and help support Ryan's family who are experiencing "unimaginable pain". Spanish cops find biggest ever haul of deadly Ibiza party drugs pink cocaine & ecstasy worth £21m at Brit hols hotspots The fund has exceeded its £2,500 target with over £8,250 raised to date. Paying an emotional tribute to the teenager, he said the boy's family has been an integral part of the football club "since the beginning". He wrote: "At BBGK, we are more than just a training ground, we are a close knit community that supports one another through every triumph and every trial. "One of our long-standing members and his family are experiencing an unimaginable loss, following the recent passing of a beloved brother and son. "This family has been with me since the very beginning—nearly 10 years—and they are truly part of the heart and history of our academy. "Many within our community have already reached out to me, asking how they can show their love and stand beside the family during this time. "First and foremost, your thoughts, your kindness, and your support mean everything. "For those who feel moved to contribute in a small way, a GoFundMe page has been set up. "There is absolutely no expectation—this is simply an option for those who wish to offer a gesture of solidarity and care. "Let's continue to support each other, not just as players, coaches, and parents, but as a family. "We are BBGK. We stand together. Always."

'Not worth the risk' - Heartbroken family's warning after Southend teen's Ibiza death

THE heartbroken family of an 18-year old who died after taking a suspected party drug in Ibiza has issued a desperate warning to other youngsters thinking of doing the same. Ryan Long, from Eastwood, died last Tuesday after spending five days in intensive care after falling ill while on holiday in Ibiza. Loved - Ryan's parents want to warn other young people about the dangers of drug use (Image: Adrian Long) His parents have urged other youngsters to avoid the temptation of illegal drug use in destinations such as Ibiza and have called out the party culture which they feel influenced his decision. "He's not the first and he won't be the last, but I hope that this will shock other young people his age," said Ryan's dad, Adrian Long. Ryan had flown out to Ibiza with a group of friends on Wednesday July 2, falling ill just a day later on Thursday July 3. According to his parents, Ryan's friends had helped their son out of the club they were in and into a taxi after his condition took a downward turn. Ryan was subsequently moved to an intensive care unit where he tragically passed away five days later with his parents at his side. "It's not worth the risk," said Ryan's distraught mum, Angela. "Ryan knew about the danger, he knew about Leah Betts and he knew that it only takes one pill. "We'd drummed it into him but we never thought it would be him." Latchingdon resident Leah Betts died in 1995, also aged 18, after taking an ecstasy tablet during a birthday celebration at her home - her case made national headlines. Discussing why she believes Ryan decided to take an illegal drug in Ibiza, Angela said: "The attraction for youngsters is too much - Ryan told us that it was 52 euros for a single vodka and coke." "However, they did tell us that there were a number of other cases already this season." In the wake of Ryan's death, a fundraiser has been set up by family friends in support of the Long's, and has already seen thousands donated to the grieving family. You can support the fundraiser at

Cork car thief jailed for deliberately ramming Deliveroo worker who suffered broken leg

A Deliveroo worker was chased by men in a stolen car who threw things at him as he tried to get away on his moped but he suffered a broken leg when the car deliberately rammed him off the bike, leaving him on the road with his fractured leg protruding through his skin. Judge Sinead Behan said the endangerment of the life of this young Brazilian man must have been a terrifying and extremely painful experience for him. 27-year-old Adrian Long was jailed for a total of three years for this endangerment and other crimes carried out in a violent escapade of offences carried out on the one day in October last year. Judge Behan said at Cork Circuit Criminal Court: 'This young man was going about his work. He came to the attention of Adrian Long and his companion. They pursued him at speed. They threw things at him. They rear-ended him on his motorbike. It must have been a terrifying experience. He showed huge courage (when taken on by the two men) that he punched the co-accused. 'But afterwards they knocked him off his bike. Their vehicle came in contact with him and broke his leg. Mr Long admitted his part in relation to that. 'The Deliveroo driver was left with his bone protruding from his leg. It must have been very painful and very frightening. Motorbikes are vulnerable machines. He was left with very serious injuries requiring surgery. That offence was intentionally carried out. 'I am told he (the defendant) was heavily addicted at the time and only has a fragmented recollection – he expressed remorse. He has undiagnosed mental health issues and a significant criminal record.' Judge Behan imposed an overall sentence of four years with the last year suspended. A driving disqualification of 15 years was also imposed on him. 27-year-old Adrian Long of 14 Willowbank, Upper Fair Hill, Cork, pleaded guilty to charges of causing criminal damage, theft, attempted theft, driving a stolen car and assault causing harm to a member of An Garda Síochána and endangerment in respect of the moped ramming. Emmet Boyle, defence barrister, said Mr Long had mental health issues and showed genuine remorse. He said these offences occurred despite efforts made by his parents to bring him to his GP a short time before this in order to get help for his issues. List of offences Detective Garda Mark Durcan said that a jeep-type vehicle was stolen on October 21, 2024, at Courtbrack, Blarney, and that on October 31 Adrian Long and his accomplice went on a rampage in it. Det. Garda Durcan said Mr Long stole items from a vehicle in Whitethorn Avenue in Ballincollig after the window of the vehicle had been broken. Bank cards stolen from Woodbine in Ballincollig were late used in Hollyhill. Binoculars were also stolen. After 6am a car parked at Ballyhooley Road was smashed in an attempt to get into it. By 10am two men entered Tesco in Mallow to buy a bottle of Southern Comfort but it was too early to sell alcohol, in terms of licensing laws. They threw €50 on the counter and left with it. There was a break-in to a car at Woodville, Glanmire, at around 10.45pm. Ten minutes later in Little Island an off-duty member of An Garda Síochána observed two men trying cars. One of them was sitting in a Ford Focus outside a house when the member approached and identified himself as being a garda. 'A struggle ensued and he received a number of blows to the body and face from Mr Long. He was unable to attend work for a number of days due to his injuries. 'A Deliveroo driver was knocked off his moped in Blackrock and received serious leg injuries. Later, on the north side of Cork City the jeep took off at speed when gardaí indicated for it to stop. "The vehicle rammed the garda car on two occasions in the Mallow Road area of Cork. The garda car was too damaged to continue before the stolen car was driven to Carrignavar where it was later found burned out. The loss to the owner was around €15,000,' Det. Garda Durcan said. As well as all of that, a couple who were leaving home for an early flight from Cork Airport saw the two men trying to break into a car. They began to video the two men and Adrian Long became threatening to the couple and smashed a window of their vehicle.
