Adur and Worthing councils consult on dogs protection order
Dogs could be banned from further places in West Sussex as part of proposals to extend a council protection and Worthing District Councils have said they want to extend a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) which bans dogs from certain locations and gives officers powers to tackle dog fouling and dogs off powers could exclude dogs from play areas in Lilac Way, Shoreham, and Freesia Way, Durrington, as well as Heene Cemetery in councils are asking for feedback on the plans which would also extend current powers for a further three years until December 2028. Adur council says it is open to selling part of Southwick Beach
A council in West Sussex says it is open to selling its part of a beach and the surrounding facilities. Adur District Council (ADC) said it had listened to public feedback about the potential sale of Southwick Beach to Shoreham Port council says it "lacks the necessary funding to adequately invest into the current infrastructure or ensure the future protection of the shoreline".Shoreham Port Authority said: "It is evident that investment is needed in much of the area and our plan is to be in a financial position to undertake this." If the sale is to go through, Shoreham Port Authority, which already owns most of the surrounding land, would also take on the promenade, public toilets, beach chalets and car cafe, which is independently operated on a long-term lease, would also be included in the sale.A council spokesperson said: "The council believes Shoreham Port would be the ideal custodian of the land because of its key contribution to the local economy, its work with the community, its sustainable values and the fact it is the adjacent landowner."If the sale goes ahead, existing contractual agreements with beach chalet tenants and the operator of Carats Cafe would be automatically assigned to Shoreham Port, which would be obligated to comply with the terms and conditions in place at the time of the transaction, the council added. Shoreham Port Authority says if the sale goes through it will retain public access to the beach "forever". The potential sale is going to be discussed by Adur & Worthing Councils' joint strategic committee on a deal be agreed, the public facilities at Southwick Beach would be managed by Shoreham Port Authority.

Road junction could be replaced with 'pocket park'
A road junction could be closed and replaced with a "pocket park" as part of new plans to re-design a Sussex village's shopping area. Adur District Council has released plans for changes to Lancing in North Road, North Farm Road and Penstone Park aimed and making the area more pedestrian friendly. The changes would be funded through money from a partnership with West Sussex County Council, with work potentially beginning at the start of 2026 if approved. Councillor Becky Allinson, cabinet member for regeneration, said the plans aim to "revitalise the village" and make it greener and more accessible. The new park in the North Farm Road junction would include trees, planting and seating to "encourage people to spend time" outdoors. Also included in the plans are a new planting and seating area at the end of Penstone Park, with the entrance made one way and the road narrowed. West Sussex County Councillor Garry Wall, cabinet member for economy, said the scheme could be funded buy pooling money from business rates to "support delivery of a viable scheme".
