After a seizure-like episode sent me to the ER, the first neurologist I saw told me that I was making it all up for attention. Thankfully, the second neurologist actually took me seriously. He did a spinal tap- which no one had thought to do before- and ruled out meningitis. Turns out I had occipital neuralgia, caused by a pinched nerve in my brain. The symptoms were brutal: sudden electric shock-like pain from the back of my head to my forehead and behind my eyes, light sensitivity, numbness and tingling. So glad you got your answer and a treatable diagnosis - rooting for your recovery!" ChatGPT Solves 10-Year Medical Mystery After Doctors Fail To Diagnose Condition

Last Updated: The user shared their experience, detailing how they suffered from several unexplained symptoms despite undergoing comprehensive medical tests. A Reddit post has gone viral after a user claimed that ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI, helped solve a decade-long health mystery. The post also mentioned that the health mystery had stumped multiple doctors, experts, and even neurologists for over a decade. Titled 'ChatGPT solved a 10+ year problem no doctors could figure out," the user, @Adventurous-Gold6935, shared their experience, detailing how they suffered from several unexplained symptoms despite undergoing comprehensive medical tests. 'For 10+ years I have had several unexplained symptoms. I had a spinal MRI, CT Scan, blood work (in-depth), everything up to even checking for Lyme disease," read the post. The Reddit user had consulted several specialists, including a neurologist, and received treatment at one of the country's top-ranked healthcare networks. But no specific diagnosis was ever made. 'I did function health (free plug I guess) and turns out I have the homozygous A1298C MTHFR mutation which affects 7-12% of the population. I'm in the states an my doctor network is one of the top-ranked in the nation. I even saw a neurologist at one point and checked for MS," the post read. The turning point occurred when the user entered their whole symptom history and lab data into the AI chatbot. 'ChatGPT took all my lab results and symptom history and concluded this was on par with the mutation. Despite seemingly normal B12 levels, turns out that with the mutation it may not be utilising them correctly so you need to boost it with supplementation," it added. The user then consulted their doctor with the AI-generated insights, and the doctor was 'super shocked". 'Ran these findings by my doctor and he was super shocked and said this all added up to him. Not sure how they didn't think to test me for MTHFR mutation," the user wrote. After starting treatment, the user reported a dramatic improvement in their condition. 'Anyways, here we are a few months later and my symptoms are largely resolved. Actually perplexed, and excited, at how this all went down up until now," the Redditor concluded. The user has issued a cautionary note, emphasising the importance of verifying AI-generated advice with medical professionals. 'Didn't expect this to get so much attention. Will reiterate and emphasise that I double-checked the AI suggestion with my primary care provider before trying its suggestions. Please do not trust it all the time for medical advice," it read. The post has received nearly 7,000 upvotes and sparked widespread discussion on the social media platform. A user wrote, 'We had a similar experience with our dog. He was struggling to breathe and the vet we took him to said we should probably say goodbye. Fed the symptoms into ChatGPT and suggested we find an ER that handles heart issues. Got him on oxygen, recorded talks with Vet with Otter, fed those transcripts and X-rays into ChatGPT etc." 'My sister was diagnosed by ChatGPT with a rare genetic blood disorder after over a decade of doctors and naturopaths telling her it was all in her head," added another. In a recent incident, ChatGPT helped an American woman to pay off her credit card debt. Jennifer Allan, a realtor and content creator living in the US' Delaware, has reportedly used the chatbot to pay off her $23,000 debt. First Published: July 06, 2025, 09:30 IST
