Major tourist attraction shuts as Greece braces for 43C heat
Greece is experiencing its third heatwave of the summer, with temperatures forecast to reach up to 43C in some regions between Tuesday and Friday.
The Greek government has advised outdoor labourers to cease work during the hottest parts of the day and has closed the Acropolis for five hours daily on Tuesday and Wednesday.
High temperatures of 42C are expected in Central Macedonia and 40C in Athens and the eastern Aegean Islands.
Fire services are on high alert, and residents and tourists are urged to take precautions such as staying hydrated and avoiding crowds.
This heatwave is part of a broader trend across southern Europe, linked to climate change, which has previously led to severe wildfires and floods in Greece.
