Rosie O'Donnell says Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos' $50m wedding ‘turned my stomach'

In a post on Instagram, the former talk show host called Sánchez a 'fake fem bot wife' before praising Bezos' first wife, MacKenzie Scott The Ireland-based US comic launched a scathing attack on the weekend extravaganza in Venice that had 'turned my stomach'. O'Donnell did not hold back as she also took aim at the star-studded guest list, which included celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, the Kardashian-Jenner family, Leonardo DiCaprio, Orlando Bloom, Tom Brady, Sydney Sweeney and many others. In a post on Instagram, the former talk show host called Sánchez a 'fake fem bot wife' before praising Bezos' first wife, MacKenzie Scott. Rosie O'Donnell Today's News in 90 Seconds - July 1st 'The BEZOS wedding,' O'Donnell declared, 'it turned my stomach. Seeing all these billionaires. Gathering in the gross excess of it all. The show of it.' 'Is Oprah friends with Jeff Besos,' she asked. 'Really – how is that possible. He treats his employees with disdain. By any metric he is not a nice man.' 'And his fake fem bot wife. Who looks like that. Why would he choose her. After the salt of the earth Mackenzie.' 'Sold his soul. Is what it looks like from here. The devil is smiling. At all his conquests.' Bezos and Scott divorced in 2019 after nearly 25 years of marriage. She walked away with $38 billion and a 4% stake in Amazon after the split and, according to the New York Post, pledged to give away at least half of her wealth. O'Donnell, who moved to Ireland earlier this year with her 12-year-old nonbinary child Clay, was not the only celebrity to criticise the lavish Italian wedding that took place last Friday. During her fifth annual Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project Block Party over the weekend, the actress said: 'I think we might be the only people who did not get an invite to the Bezos wedding. Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez 'But that's OK because they suck and we're cool,' she added, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Theron then thanked her audience for 'taking the time to be a part of this, especially when the world feels like it's burning, because it is.' 'Yeah, f**k them,' she added. Other celebrities used the opportunity to praise the billionaire's 'awesome' first wife with Mia Farrow posting: 'How awesome is MacKenzie Scott! As of mid-December 2024, she had given a total of $19.3 billion to over 1600 charitable organizations.' The US celebrity who has Donegal ancestry moved to Ireland after Donald Trump's election to a second term as president. A staunch critic of Trump for decades, she made the move to Dublin in January. She said previously: 'When he got the nomination I said to my therapist, 'I can't survive another four years with him, I know I can't.' She said, 'What's the plan?' And I said I would move to Ireland, it's the only country I would move to, I have family there that we have kept in touch with and I know that I can get citizenship because of my grandparents.' And she said, 'Let's start to make that plan.' Rosie moved here with her 12-year-old non-binary child, Clay, because of the Trump administration's policies. 'I spoke to Clay and said that for trans people and trans kids and gay people it's [America] is not a safe place to be. And for women, they've taken away our rights that I remember fighting for in the early '70s.' Although she misses her family who still live in the US, O'Donnell says she has no regrets about leaving America. 'Clay is very happy here,' she says. 'Clay has autism and supports are being taken away in America.' Although Rosie's friends were surprised she left America for Ireland, she points out that she quit her TV show at the height of its success. 'I made crazy, insane money, the kind of money if you made it for one year you'd never have to work again… and I did it for six years,' she adds.

Charlize Theron speaks out on immigration policies that have ‘destroyed the lives of families, not criminals'

Charlize Theron, a naturalized US citizen, spoke out about changing policies in the country she has made her home. At her annual Africa Outreach Project Block Party over the weekend, Theron thanked attendees for 'taking the time to be a part of this, especially when the world feels like it's burning because it is.' 'Here in Los Angeles, in the US and across the globe, we're moving backwards fast. Immigration policy has destroyed the lives of families, not criminals; women's rights are becoming less and less every day; queer and trans lives are increasingly being erased; and gender-based violence is on the rise,' Theron said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The issue of immigration is very personal to the star, who immigrated from South Africa to the United States and became a US citizen in 2007. Her block party is held to raise funds to help youth in Africa. Theron spoke out against US aid 'cuts [that] have brought HIV and AIDS programs in my home country of South Africa to an absolute standstill.' 'All of this is not just detrimental, it's dangerous; people will lose their lives — many have already, unfortunately, and at a frightening rate,' she said. 'It's absolutely heartbreaking to see this kind of unnecessary suffering.' 'But what we also see, what we cannot miss, is the resistance. There is hope,' Theron added. 'There is power in all of us standing up, organizing, protesting, voting, and caring for each other, and refusing to accept that this is the new normal.' The event is part of the star's nonprofit the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project.

Charlize Theron slams Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez after their $50 million wedding in Venice

Charlize Theron took aim at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez's reported $50 million wedding in Venice while hosting her charity event, the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project Block Party. She quipped that she and her guests were 'cool' despite not receiving an invite and added, 'they suck', signalling her disapproval of the extravaganza. The actress contrasted the lavish celebrations with pressing global issues, warning that while the world 'feels like it's burning', humanitarian crises—from immigration failures to threats to trans and queer rights and rising gender-based violence—require urgent attention. High‑profile guests included Kim and Khloé Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Brady and Orlando Bloom. Despite the opulence, protesters in Venice accused Bezos of avoiding tax, unfurling banners in St Mark's Square. Local activist group No Space for Bezos called the wedding exploitative and said the city's mayor valued spectacle over resolving housing shortages and tourist overcrowding. In response, Bezos and Sánchez reportedly made charitable donations to Venice ahead of the event and asked guests to direct gifts into local causes.
