Minister releases fingerlings in lake in Namakkal

Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare M. Mathiventhan released fingerlings in a lake in the district on Saturday. As part of the River Ranching Programme, the Minister released 25,000 native fish varieties at Mathiyampatti Lake in Vennandur panchayat in Rasipuram taluk. At the function, the Minister said that in the agricultural budget for 2025-26, Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam announced that fingerlings would be stocked in water bodies to increase the native fish varieties and prevent them from extinction. Based on it, in Namakkal district, the target was fixed to stock four lakh fingerlings in water bodies that come under the control of the Rural Development department. Already, in 2024-25, two lakh native variety fingerlings were stocked in the water bodies in Namakkal district, the Minister added. Later, Mr. Mathiventhan laid the foundation and started construction works for the Rasipuram Tahsildar office at ₹5 crore. To be constructed on 12,658 sq. feet, the two storey building will have Tahsildar's room, a computer room, an office room, toilets, and a registration room. The Minister also participated in the ground breaking ceremony for constructing an overhead water tank at ₹18 lakh in Minnakkal panchayat, and laying cement concrete roads on Arunthathiyar Street in Komarapalayam at ₹20 lakh. District Collector Durgamoorthi, Rajya Sabha member K.R.N. Rajeshkumar, and officials participated.

Tamil Nadu Minister for Tourism R. Rajendran on Tuesday announced that the 48th Yercaud Summer Festival and Flower Show will be held for seven days from May 23 to 29. Participating in a meeting held at Salem Collectorate, the Minister discussed with the Horticulture Department officials the preparation to be done for the flower show at Anna Park in Yercaud, and the amenities to be provided for the tourists visiting the festival. After the meeting, the Minister told reporters that based on the direction of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin the summer festival and flower show are being held from May 23 to 29 at Yercaud to attract tourists. Minister for Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare M.R.K. Panneerselvam and Minister for Forests R.S. Rajakannappan will participate. A total of 1,50,000 flowers in more than 25,000 pots will be displayed during the flower show. The show will feature floral replicas of wild animals, Mettur Dam, and various structures. Stalls explaining the achievements of the government; pet shows, cookery events, healthy baby competitions, and cultural events conducted jointly by officials of the Integrated Children Development Scheme, Mahalir Thittam, the Tourism Department, and the Art and Culture Department will be part of the festival. Sports events such as football, cricket, handball, and kabaddi will be conducted daily during the festival, Mr. Rajendran added. On the traffic diversion during the summer festival, Minister Rajendran said that for the seven days, four-wheelers, including heavy vehicles, should reach Yercaud through Hasthampatti-Gorimedu and vehicles heading to Salem from Yercaud should pass via Yercaud-Vazhavandhi-Kottachedu-Kuppanur. These stretches will be made one-way to reduce traffic congestion, the Minister added. In the meeting, District Collector R. Brindha Devi and officials from concerned departments participated. Ends.
