TV BRICS signs pact to promote Russian farm exports in BRICS+ countries
The TV BRICS International Media Network has signed an agreement with a Russian state agency to support the promotion of Russian agro-industrial products in the foreign markets of BRICS+ countries. The cooperation agreement was signed by Ivan Polyakov, chairman of TV BRICS, and Ilya Ilyushin, director of the Federal Centre for Agricultural Export Development (Agroexport), at the 28th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. According to the agreement, the joint activities will aim to build a positive image of Russia's agricultural sector in the global information space. This will involve showcasing national industry-leading companies, promoting Russian products abroad, and involving agricultural and processing enterprises in export activities. 'Media play an important role in supporting Russia's agro-industrial complex, helping to promote products in foreign markets and form a positive image of the industry. Today we face a crucial task – to develop a global dialogue among friendly nations,' said Ilya Ilyushin, head of Agroexport. 'I am confident that cooperation with TV BRICS will enable us to promptly deliver all necessary information about the development of trade relations among BRICS countries to a multibillion audience.' Ivan Polyakov of TV BRICS emphasised that food security and the sustainable development of agriculture are a priority for the network's agenda, as they align with the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. The network cited its series of television films, 'Agroparallels,' produced with its Brazilian partner Agro+ TV and dedicated to agricultural cooperation between the two countries, as an example of its work in this area. Polyakov also announced the upcoming premiere in 2025 of a new television project, 'BRICS GRAIN,' which will focus on sustainable agricultural development, support for agricultural diplomacy, and strengthening cooperation between Russia and countries of the Global South and East. Agroexport, established by the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia, is a centre for expertise in agricultural exports. It coordinates and monitors the implementation of the federal project 'Agro-Industrial Exports' and cooperates with regional agricultural bodies to develop Russia's export potential. The centre provides analysis of foreign markets, assesses trade barriers, and assists Russian exporters in obtaining information and building direct communication with international buyers of Russian agricultural products.

The collaboration aims to enhance the global image of Russia's agricultural sector by highlighting leading national producers, promoting Russian goods in overseas markets, and encouraging export-oriented growth among agro-processing enterprises, as reported by TV BRICS. Building on that success, Polyakov announced a new project titled BRICS GRAIN, set to premiere in 2025, which will focus on agricultural diplomacy and deepening partnerships with the Global South and East. Russian food exports to Africa increase 19%
Russian agricultural exports to African nations surpassed $7 billion in 2024, marking a 19% increase from the previous year, the export department of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture reported on Monday. Russian food products were exported to 45 African countries last year, with Egypt remaining the largest importer of Russian wheat. Additionally, Russia exported sunflower and soybean oil, legumes, flax seeds, yeast, and other products to the country. Algeria ranked second in terms of Russian food imports. It was followed by Libya, Kenya, and Tunisia, according to data from Agroexport. Cereals – mainly wheat, barley, and corn – accounted for 87% of all food shipments to the continent. Dairy product exports also saw significant growth last year. 'In the 2023/2024 season, African countries imported 21.2 million tons of wheat, accounting for 38% of Russia's total wheat exports and setting a record high. For comparison, 17.6 million tons were imported in the 2022/2023 season, and 10.6 million tons in the 2021/2022 season. Over the past five years, Africa's share has remained steady at around 40%, except for the 2022/2023 season, when it dropped to 35%,' said Igor Pavensky, head of the analysis department at Rusagrotrans, a railway infrastructure operator company. African countries already account for more than 50% of Russia's total wheat exports in the current season, with 18 million tons being shipped from July to February. The increase is driven by rising exports to Egypt, Algeria, Libya, and Morocco, as well as Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Mozambique, Ethiopia, and other countries, Pavensky noted. In January, Eduard Zernin, chairman of the Russian Union of Grain Exporters, highlighted Africa's rising demand for Russian grain, attributing it to high quality and competitive pricing. 'In the current 2024-25 season, [Russian] exports to Morocco and Nigeria have already increased significantly. Kenya, which is already one of the main importers of Russian grain, is also expanding its volumes,' he reported. By the end of last year, Russia had overtaken France as Morocco's top grain supplier due to competitive pricing and France's limited supply, according to Ruslan Khasanov, head of the Center of Grain Quality Assurance, Russia's grain quality watchdog. Omar Yacoubi, head of the Moroccan National Federation of Grain and Legume Traders, told Reuters in October that France lacks sufficient supply, while Russia's competitive pricing has positioned it as the key 'market maker.' In April, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for a 50% increase in agricultural exports by 2030 compared to 2021 levels, which totaled $37 billion.

Moroccan Agriculture Imports from Russia Valued at $280 Million in 2024
Rabat – Morocco's agricultural products imports from Russia amounted to nearly $280 million in 2024. International information group Interfax shared new data compiled by Agroexport Center, noting that the number represents three-fold compared to 2023. 'Thanks to more competitive price and quality, Russia became the leader among wheat suppliers to Morocco, surpassing France, which had been the largest seller to this country for many years,' the center said. Among agricultural crops Morocco imported from Russia includes wheat as the country suffers from consecutive years of drought. Morocco's import of wheat reached more than one million tons last year. Its imports also include legumes, and barley, among other products like honey. Citing Agroexport data, Interfaxx stressed that the potential for Russia's exports of agricultural products is estimated at $350 million, with cereals and vegetable oils topping the demands among other categories like beef, and others. In December last year, the Russian Union of Exporters and Producers of Grains conveyed Russia's interest in supplying Morocco with one million tons of wheat this season. Russia also aims to increase supplies to Morocco to 1.5 million tons in the future. Statistics show that Russia's wheat exports to Morocco have so far amounted to 650,000 million tonnes since the start of the 2024-2025 season. This makes Morocco t one of the top 10 buyers of Russian wheat. The two countries signed a memorandum agreement in December, formalizing arrangements between Russian exports and Moroccan grain traders as part of the two countries' consistent determination to boost bilateral ties, trade, and cooperation across different sectors.
