Aguila Saleh discusses bilateral cooperation with China's Acting Ambassador
Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Aguila Saleh, met on Tuesday with Liu Jian, the Acting Chinese Ambassador to Libya, to discuss enhancing cooperation between the two countries. The meeting, held at Saleh's office, focused on the latest political developments in Libya and explored ways to strengthen bilateral relations in support of the shared interests of both the Libyan and Chinese peoples, according to the HoR media office. Al-Mishri announces receipt of endorsements from HCS members for Prime Ministerial candidates
Khaled Al-Mishri, who is in a leadership dispute over the presidency of the High Council of State with Mohammed Tekala, announced on Monday that he had received from House of Representatives Speaker Aguila Saleh a copy of endorsements submitted by several members of the High Council of State in support of candidates for the new government's premiership. Al-Mishri added that these endorsements were sent individually to the House of Representatives outside official channels. He noted that the parliament forwarded them to verify their authenticity and ensure they comply with the required regulations, as he put it. Egypt: President El-Sisi Meets the Speaker of Libya's House of Representatives
Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received the Speaker of Libya's House of Representatives, Counselor Aguila Saleh. The meeting was attended by Political Advisor to the Speaker of Libya's House of Representatives, Hamid Al-Safi, and Director of the General Intelligence Service, Major General Hassan Rashad. Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said that the meeting reviewed the latest developments on the Libyan scene. President El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's firm position in support of Libya and its national institutions, emphasizing the importance of preserving Libya's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The President also stressed the necessity for unifying efforts to reach a comprehensive political settlement to the crisis. This is in order to allow for presidential and parliamentary elections to be held concurrently as soon as possible, in a way that fulfills the aspirations of the Libyan people for stability, security, and a dignified life. President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt's commitment to continuing its efforts and coordination with all Libyan brothers and concerned international parties. This stems from Egypt's belief in the necessity of stability in the brotherly state of Libya, and that Libya's political and security stability is an integral part of Egypt's own stability. The President also emphasized the importance of the departure of all foreign forces from Libya, which will contribute to promoting security, enabling Libyan institutions to play their role in consolidating stability across all Libyan territories. The President expressed Egypt's interest in the reconstruction Libya and in participating in this process, as well as transferring Egyptian development expertise to support the development process. The Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives expressed his deep appreciation for the historical and fraternal relations between Egypt and Libya, and for the role of President El-Sisi and Egyptian institutions in supporting Libya's unity and the cohesion of its national institutions. He affirmed that this support represents a fundamental pillar for restoring security and stability and for advancing the transitional phase leading to the implementation of the upcoming electoral entitlements. Libyan Parliament Launches National Migration Observatory
The Libyan House of Representatives has officially established the 'National Migration Observatory' as an independent state institution under Decision No. 87 of 2023, published in the official gazette on 29 June 2025. The decision was signed by Speaker Aguila Saleh in Benghazi on 21 November 2023, based on Libya's interim constitutional declaration and various migration-related laws. The Observatory will operate as a legal entity with administrative and financial independence, reporting solely to the legislative authority. Its headquarters will be in Tripoli, with official branches in Benghazi and Sebha. Additional offices may be opened by decision of the Board Chair. The Board of Directors will be appointed by the Speaker of Parliament and will act as the National High Committee for Migration Strategy. The board will elect a chair and a rapporteur, with the chair representing the institution locally and internationally. The board will also appoint a secretary-general and spokesperson. The Observatory's duties include monitoring migration flows, implementing the national migration strategy, and coordinating with local and international partners. It will oversee detention centres, repatriation processes, and agreements on migration. It is authorised to sign memorandums with foreign partners aligned with Libya's migration policies. The Observatory will build a national database of Libyans abroad, support their return, and track migration-related human rights issues. It can issue legal reports, media statements, and recommendations on migration policy. It is authorised to act against local and foreign violations of Libya's migration laws. Funding will come from the national budget, supplemented by approved donations. Financial operations will be subject to internal audits. The Observatory will have its own media centre and website, and represent Libya at migration-related international events. Saleh, Greek ambassador discuss path to ending political crisis
