It is worth noting that Sweida is a majority Druze city and was under deadly clashes with Bedouin tribes.
The ministry posted on Facebook citing Commander of Internal Security in Sweida Governorate, Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Dalati: "In an effort to enhance security and stability in As-Suwayda Governorate, and following the bloody events that took place in the city, forces from the Ministries of Interior and Defense will begin entering As-Suwayda city center to protect civilians and restore security."
"We announce the imposition of a curfew on the city streets, effective from 8:00 a.m. until further notice, to ensure the safety of our residents in the city."
The ministry also urged the people of Sweida to stay in their homes, and emphasized the need to prevent outlaw gangs from using residential buildings as positions to confront state forces."
In addition, this decision was taken after religious leaders from the Druze minority said in a statement that they approved the entry of armed forces under the Damascus government, who were to impose a curfew on the southern city that has suffered two days of fighting, which have killed around 100 people in the region.
They also asked Druze factions to hand over their weapons to the government.
