Ahmed Fareed to anchor NBC's Monday night NBA coverage

NBC Sports announced on Tuesday that Ahmed Fareed will anchor the network's Monday night NBA coverage on Peacock, NBCUniversal's streaming service. Fareed has also been named NBC Sports' new host of Big Ten College Countdown. 'College football under the lights is sacred, and we've got the crew to match its energy. Plus, helping shape our NBA coverage in its return to NBC Sports? I can't wait to start,' Fareed said in a news release. 'I'm thankful to be trusted with these roles. I'm even more motivated by the responsibility that comes with them.' Advertisement Fareed has been a part of the network's coverage of the Olympics, Premier League and Major League Baseball, as well as other sports, but recently gained national attention for hosting the majority of the 151st Kentucky Derby broadcast in place of Mike Tirico, who left following an allergic reaction. NBCUniversal and the NBA announced an 11-year agreement to present NBA and WNBA regular-season and playoff games last July, beginning with the 2025-26 season. Recently, the network has announced several additions to its coverage team. Jamal Crawford, Reggie Miller and Grant Hill will serve as game analysts, while Carmelo Anthony and Vince Carter will be studio analysts. Maria Taylor has been announced as a studio host, Tirico and Noah Eagle as play-by-play voices and Michael Jordan as a special contributor. NBC Sports is also bringing back its iconic 'Roundball Rock' theme song.

NBC names Ahmed Fareed as host for Big Ten football and Peacock's NBA coverage

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — Ahmed Fareed will host NBC's Big Ten football studio show as well as Peacock's NBA coverage on Monday nights. NBC Sports made the announcement on Tuesday. Fareed was an occasional studio host during the first two years of NBC's Big Ten package, but will move into the lead role with Maria Taylor becoming the host of the network's NBA coverage on Tuesday night and Sunday night when the NFL season concludes. Fareed hosted NBC Sports Bay Area's coverage of the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings from 2013-18. During the Kentucky Derby in May, Fareed stepped in as host after Mike Tirico had to leave following an allergic reaction. 'Ahmed has repeatedly demonstrated his passion for storytelling, love of college football, and ability to meet the big moments,' NBC Sports executive producer Sam Flood said in a statement. 'He's a wonderful teammate who makes every event he touches feel bigger and forms an instant connection with his analysts. Ahmed's leadership and presence will continue to be a tremendous asset to our coverage of these premier properties.' Fareed is NBC Sports' third NBA announcement in the past week. Taylor was named the main studio host and Grant Hill was hired as a game analyst last week. ___ AP sports:
