Lily King's parents call for caution after allergy death on holiday
The parents of a teenage girl who died in Morocco from an allergic reaction have urged others to be extra cautious eating out while on King, 18, from Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, had gone for a drink with her mum Aicha, who comes from Morocco and speaks fluent Arabic."The restaurant staff said we had to eat something, and I told them she had allergies and we would rather not eat, but they insisted it would be fine. I told them to be careful and they didn't listen," Aicha told the inquest at Milton Keynes Coroner's Court this week confirmed Lily died on 23 June 2024 from a cardio-respiratory arrest caused by anaphylaxis and triggered by food. "Every time you eat out, especially abroad, it's Russian roulette," said Lily's dad Michael."Most restaurants in the UK are very careful, but many other countries don't have compulsory training programmes for staff around allergies. "Someone needs to warn people who are going on holiday to other countries – not only Morocco – to be very, very wary of eating out. Especially if you don't have the language," he said. Lily had a catalogue of allergies for most of her life, the most severe being seafood, nuts and leaving home to study economics at Exeter University, her parents said the allergies became worse."She wanted to be like her friends – a normal person. That led to her eating out more, but she was always very careful and carried her EpiPen and antihistamine suffered her first ever anaphylactic shock that year while at a festival, and was treated by St John afterwards she travelled to Morocco with her mum to visit family and celebrate completing her first year at chose a restaurant that Lily loved and had been to before. Her mother said she told restaurant staff three times about Lily's food allergies and what she could not eat, before ordering chicken and meal arrived with other food and a sauce on the plate."She literally took a tiny piece of food – we think it was carrot - and tasted it. She got an itchy tongue which she always had before a reaction."She took a Piriton (antihistamine tablet) and used her EpiPen. She said 'I'm going outside to get some air'," explained mum rushed out to join her and gave a second EpiPen injection."She was being very, very strong, because she said, 'Don't stress mum, you know I love you. I love you. I'm very sorry, I'm going', and then she passed out," she said.A trip to the hospital was then delayed by two issues, the family said. The ambulance did not arrive, and Aicha said the restaurant insisted she paid for the food before leaving in her nephew's car."The next day, she came around temporarily but then had a seizure. Later they did a brain scan, but there was no activity," said Michael. His daughter passed away in hospital four days after her visit to the restaurant."We never believed it would come to this. We're devastated."She meant the world to us, she was our baby. We had 18 marvellous years with her," he said. The family said it had tried to take the restaurant to court in order to raise the issue at a national level."We only want the Moroccan government to realise how important it is, and for their hospitality industry to recognise that restaurants should be told to educate their staff."I care about other families going through the same thing," said and Tanya Ednan-Laperouse, whose daughter Natasha died in 2016 from an allergic reaction to a baguette, said: "Lily's family did everything they could to keep her safe. "Yet on this occasion even though Lily and her mother flagged her allergies, it still went dreadfully wrong."Lily's death highlights how dangerous food allergies can be and the potential risks of travelling abroad with food allergies." What are the rules in the UK? The UK Food Standards Agency states that food retailers and caterers are required to provide allergen information, as set out in food must:Provide allergen information to the consumer for both prepacked and non-prepacked food and drinkHandle and manage food allergens effectively in food preparationMake sure that staff receive training on allergens Follow Beds, Herts and Bucks news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X.

Moroccan film ‘Aicha' to world premiere at Krakow Film Festival
The film is distributed across Arab-speaking territories by MAD Distribution. Aicha, a short film by Moroccan filmmaker Sanaa El Alaoui, is set to have its world premiere in the Short Film Competition at the Krakow Film Festival, one of Europe's longest-running celebrations of cinematic art. Now in its 65th edition, the festival, which has been held annually since 1961, will run this year from May 25 to June 1. The film tells the story of a once emotionally distant mother who joins a mystical ceremony in an effort to confront her grief and reconnect with the memory of her 17-year-old daughter, whose life was cut short by tragedy. The narrative explores themes of loss, healing, and transformation through a surreal and spiritual lens. Speaking on her featurette, Alaoui stated: 'Watching AICHA breaks the illusion of time's linearity, allowing you to see life and death unfold simultaneously', further adding that, 'Trauma shatters our perception of time and space; it reshapes our identities. It offers us either the chance to let go or to be reborn, and that is the journey of the daughter and her mother.' The cast features Hind Dafer, Manal Bennani, Mohamed Amine Kihal, Sanaa El Alaoui, Kenza Fridou, Soumia Belkaria and Mustapha Rachdi. El Alaoui wrote and directed the film, which was produced by Piotr Kaczorowski. The film's cinematography is by Oskar Jan Król, editing by Michał Buczek, and animation by Tomek Popakul and Kasumi Ozeki. Aicha is distributed across Arabic-speaking regions by MAD Distribution, with international sales managed by MAD World. El Alaoui, known for her thoughtful storytelling and visual sensibility, holds degrees from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest—where her thesis on the long take in cinema received the Best Thesis of the Year Award—and the University of Oxford, where she focused her research on the evolution of Moroccan cinema from its colonial roots to the modern era.

Secrets We Keep – Season 1 Episode 4 Recap & Review
Mike Episode 4 of Secrets We Keep starts with Mike working out in the morning while Cecilie observes him from the bedroom window. After he is done, she confronts him about his relationship with Ruby. He asks if she is jealous and insists he knows nothing about Ruby's pregnancy. He calls her crazy for suspecting him. Meanwhile, Aicha continues with her investigation. She focuses on the area where Ruby's bag was found. At school, Rasmus and Mike talk about the latest update. Rasmus point-blank asks if Mike is hiding anything from him. Of course, Mike says he is in the dark, too. As they talk, Oscar shows Viggo a video on his phone. Based on the audio, a woman is sobbing while someone else is moaning. The video distresses Viggo. Aicha goes through the items in Ruby's bag and finds a parking card from a fancy hotel. She and Carl visit the hotel, and one of the staff members recognises Ruby. He claims that she was at the hotel a while ago with a man driving a Porsche Taycan Turbo. A quick check leads them to Mike. It turns out he has a record for raping a woman 23 years ago. At the house, Oscar continues to spy on Cecilie with his drone. Angel goes to church and meets with her Filipino friends. They decide to organise a search party around the area where Ruby's purse was found. They all feel like the police are letting them down. Angel later shares this idea with Cecilie. Cecilie agrees to give her a day off and help with the search party. Still at home, Oscar continues to act suspicious. We later see Viggo watching a video of men slut shaming a woman. He asks Cecilie to have Angel tuck him in, but his mom refuses. The following morning, Viggo wets his bed and asks for Cecilie's help. Since Angel is busy with organising the search party, Cecilie drops Viggo at school. While there, she coincidentally runs into Katarina. Cecilie informs her about the search party and they agree to go together. Aicha also shows up at the search party and talks to the Father again. This time, he reveals that Ruby was raped and feared she was pregnant. However, Ruby never mentioned the man who raped her. He also adds that Ruby didn't want to abort the baby, and the Father suggested she speak to her rapist. Unfortunately, the search party bears no fruit. The next morning, Angel has a dream about Ruby. Later, she walks him to school, but Viggo seems a bit down. With the revelation. Aicha focuses on Mike as a prime suspect. Carl orders Aicha to talk to Cecilie and see if she knows where Mike was on the night Ruby disappeared. Cecilie realises that Aicha is focusing on Mike and brings up his rape conviction. She tries to justify Mike's behaviour and lies that Mike came home shortly after Katarina, Ruby, and Oscar left that night. Later, Cecilie confronts Mike at their house. He explains that he was only trying to help Ruby get her driving license. She demands to know where he was on the night Ruby disappeared. He insists he was at work and left to stay at a hotel. Cecilie gets ready for her run and leaves, too. In the meantime, Aicha gets word that a body fitting Ruby's description was found at the marina. She rushes there, and the body in the water is dressed in a red jumper and blue jeans. This was what Ruby was last seen wearing. While on her run, Cecilie notices there are a lot of police cars heading in one direction. The episode ends with Ruby closing her eyes as the wind blows her face. Next thing, we see a body floating in the water. The Episode Review With only two episodes left until the finale, we are finally starting to get some answers. It looks like Ruby is dead, but did she kill herself or was she killed? The more we think about it, the more suspicious Mike, Viggo and Oscar seem. Oscar is especially giving us bad vibes. Why would he try to scare Viggo during their archery match? Also, what video did he show Viggo, and does it have anything to do with Ruby? Katarina's behaviour and demeanour throughout all these have been wanting to. The woman who has been taking care of her child has gone missing, and she is acting as if she is the victim here. Katarina has shown no shred of concern over Ruby, and that is suspicious. It is also ironic that Cecilie lied to the police while she was at the frontline, accusing Rasmus of hurting Ruby. Now that the suspicion has shifted to her husband, she is tight-lipped. I hope she recants her statement and tells the truth in case Mike did something to Ruby?
