Boxer to fight for air ambulance that treated him
A keen boxer said he feels "fit and ready" to take part in a charity fight in aid of an air ambulance service which transported him to hospital following a serious injury. Daniel Bainger, 21, from Northampton, was two months away from a bout to raise money for the Air Ambulance Service when he damaged his spine and broke several vertebrae in a motorcycle crash in January 2024. He said he feels like he "jinxed" himself for wanting to raise funds for the charity before he needed it. Mr Bainger added that Saturday's bout was his way of "giving back". On 15 January 2024, an icy morning, Mr Bainger was riding his motorcycle to work - where he did "everything I could to try and keep myself as safe as possible" by wearing protective clothing and by going a safer route - when he was involved in a collision. The air ambulance was called and within 17 minutes he was taken to a hospital in Coventry, a journey that would normally take an hour by road. At the time, Mr Bainger was training for a charity match for the service. "I was devastated I wasn't going to be able to fight. I do feel like I possibly jinxed myself a little bit." He added that a few days before the accident he was talking to a friend, who asked him why he had chosen the charity. "I said, 'I'm a biker, it's a dangerous thing to be doing,' and then literally a week later I was in the helicopter." He said he was knocked unconscious in the accident: "I remember waking up and being in pain. I knew something was seriously wrong. I was worried I was paralysed." After being taken to hospital, he was operated on and ended up with two titanium rods and six screws in his back to support his damaged spine. Mr Bainger also suffered a fractured ankle, a lacerated liver and bruised lungs, and found out he was "millimetres away from paralysis". He added: "I've made as much as a recovery that is possible. I've trained very hard for a couple of months, I feel very fit and ready." Mr Bainger said he hopes to raise over £1,000 for the Air Ambulance Service. Pen y Fan trek in honour of speedway champion Dan Wright
Mum, dad and eleven friends, including the bearers at his funeral, walked up to the peak, which is the highest point in Wales and the whole of southern Britain. The trek raised money for Wales Air Ambulance Charity, a service close to the hearts of family members. The Air Ambulance Service gave the family a few precious hours to say their goodbyes to Dan, before he passed away in April 2023, the family explained. The walk to the summit of Pen y Fan commemorated what would have been Dan's birthday. Mum Becky said: 'Dan always wanted to walk up to the peak but never got the chance. We can't celebrate with him, so we can do this on his birthday to remember him.' Dan Wright died in April (Image: Family handout) Dad, Chris said: 'I'm happy to say we all made the hike and survived, despite the crazy weather conditions. It was 38mph winds and absolutely chucking it down with rain, but all 13 of us battled through.' The family have kept the Go Fund Me page open, which has, so far, raised nearly £1000 for the Air Ambulance Charity. You can contribute to the fund at:

Motorways & national highways: Efforts under way to launch air ambulance service across country
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has stated that efforts are currently under way to introduce air ambulance service on motorways and national highways across the country. He added that this facility is aimed at ensuring that those injured in traffic accidents can be transported to hospitals in the shortest possible time. Aleem Khan expressed these views during his visit to the Expo Centre following the conclusion of the Kazan Forum at Tatarstan. The federal minister pointed out that Kazan's development model is highly impressive and offers valuable insights that can be adopted across various sectors in Pakistan. He highlighted the efficiency of Air Ambulance Service in Kazan, noting that such initiatives could greatly aid Pakistan in establishing similar services, fostering mutual learning and experience-sharing between the two countries. Aleem Khan emphasised that the high mortality rate resulting from road accidents during travel is a matter of serious concern and it is the government's responsibility to ensure that the injured ones are promptly transported to nearby medical facilities. He added that continuous improvements are being made in Pakistan's transportation infrastructure and efforts are under way to raise public awareness about e-tagging and other automated facilities. Aleem Khan described the Kazan Forum as beneficial for Pakistan, particularly in the context of advancements in the communications sector through collaboration among participating countries. He underscored the importance of enhancing land connectivity from Pakistan to Central Asian States and mentioned that productive discussions took place on this front during the Kazan Forum. In their visit to the Expo Centre, Kazan, Aleem Khan and the Pakistani delegation were briefed on the operational procedures and supporting infrastructure of air ambulance service.
