Air Customs officials, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Customs, Coimbatore International Airport, seized commercial quantities of electronic cigarettes worth ₹20 lakh, 3,240 sticks of Gold Flake Honey Dew cigarettes, and Esse Special Gold cigarettes from a passenger who arrived at the airport on June 21 from Abu Dhabi by Flight 6E - 1498. The cigarettes were concealed in the checked in baggage and the officials also seized commercial quantities of i-phone 16 Pro Max 256 GB, i-phone 14 Pro Max 128 GB, i watch and i pad Pro 13 256 GB. As per the 'Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes(Production, Manufacture, Import, Export Transport, Sale, Distribution, Storage & Advertisement) Act, 2019, all forms of use and transaction in e-cigarettes is banned. The passenger was interrogated and the offending goods were detained by the Customs authorities for action under the Customs Act, 1962.

Three women arrested with alleged hybrid ganja, drug-laced sweets worth ₹40 crore at Karipur airport in Kerala

Air Customs intelligence wing at the Calicut international airport, Karipur, seized 34 kg of allehed hybrid ganja and 15 kg of drug-smeared sweets worth nearly ₹40 crore from three women who arrived from Thailand on Wednesday (May 14, 2025). The women – Simi Balakrishnan, 39, from Thrissur, Rabiyat Saidu Zainuddin, 40, from Chennai and Kavita Rajesh Kumar, 40, from Chennai – reached Karipur on Air Asia's flight AK-33 from Thailand. They reached Karipur via Kuala Lumpur. Customs officers detained them on the basis of a tip-off, and recovered 35 kg of alleged hybrid ganja and 15 kg Thailand-made chocolate, cake and biscuit smeared in drugs. Customs officers said the drugs were valued at ₹40 crore in the international market.
