Man charged after allegedly attacking woman with axe in Worrigee, NSW
A man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted a woman with an axe before driving over her with her own car. The 66-year-old was sitting in her Ford Mustang on Illawarra Circuit in Worrigee on the NSW South Coast on Saturday afternoon when she was attacked. Shortly before about 1pm, police were called to nearby Rayleigh Dr following reports a man was armed with an axe and hammer. When police arrived at the scene, the man allegedly threw the axe at their car. He retrieved the axe and then ran to a home around the corner Illawarra Circuit where he struck the woman multiple times with the weapon. The man then forced her out of the car before running her over as he drove away. The woman was treated at the scene for multiple leg and torso injuries before being taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition. She has since been transferred to St George Hospital for further treatment. The Air Wing police located the vehicle at about 2pm on the Princes Hwy heading south, and a pursuit began when the driver allegedly failed to stop. The Ford Mustang continued through Nowra, Bomaderry, Berry, Gerringong and Kiama, with the man allegedly reaching speeds of 180km/h in an 80km/h speed zone. Police attempted to use road spikes to stop the driver, however he allegedly swerved the car towards a highway patrol officer, only just missing him. The pursuit ended when the Ford Mustang was seen driving on the opposite side of the Princes Highway at Kiama Downs before colliding with a ute. The 25-year-old driver attempted to run from the scene but he was stopped and held by bystanders until police arrived. He was arrested and taken to Wollongong Hospital under police guard, while the driver of the ute was also taken to hospital for assessment. On Sunday the driver was released from hospital and charged with several offences including possessing a knife in a public place, speeding and larceny. He was also charged with three outstanding offences, including two domestic violence related offences. The man was refused bail to appear in court on Monday.

Man's wild seven-hour police chase across Melbourne ends dramatically
Wild helicopter footage has shown the moment a man was hit by a car following a seven-hour high-speed police chase through the Melbourne. Early risers may have caught a glimpse of the chaos unfolding this morning, after the man allegedly stole a van on St Kilda Road around 5.40am. It kicked off a wild seven-hour pursuit across the city as cops scrambled to detain the man and get the stolen vehicle back in one piece. Police were assisted by the Air Wing and multiple ground units in tracking the vehicle as it travelled erratically through multiple suburbs, including Footscray, Port Melbourne, Spotswood, Carnegie, Sunshine, Dandenong and eventually Point Cook. The man allegedly stole a van on St Kilda Road around 5.40am. ... The driver attempted to flee on foot, dramatically jumping out of the driver side window. But he didn't last long and was struck by an unmarked police car. Along the way, the van collided with a number of parked and moving vehicles, with pieces of its chassis flying off. The pursuit came to a dramatic end just after 1pm when the vehicle crashed into a street sign at the intersection of Dunnings and Palmers roads in Point Cook. But the drama wasn't over just yet. The driver attempted to flee on foot, dramatically jumping out of the driver side window. But he didn't last long and was struck by an unmarked police car. The 36-year-old Point Cook man was arrested on the scene and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He remains under police guard and is yet to be interviewed. No serious injuries have been reported at this stage. 'Wasn't deliberate' Speaking to media after the incident, Acting Inspector Dean Pickering shed light on the chaos of the pursuit and the dramatic way it came to an end. 'Look, I've seen the video and we got our bad guy. That's a fair thing to say,' he said. Inspector Pickering said the arrest left even seasoned officers a little shaken. 'Looking at what happened, I don't think anyone would have expected that offender to bail out of the window like he did when he did,' Pickering said. 'When I watched the video, I was a bit surprised, thinking that someone would do that. (I'm) surprised he actually didn't get run over by the van he was in and looking at it, it was pretty close.' 'The driver of that police car, I've briefly spoken to, he wasn't anticipating that person was going to come out the window and run like he did. They've taken evasive action pretty quickly, and obviously we have seen the collision. 'But unfortunately in the policing world we see pedestrian collisions all day, every day from people that in this case do crazy things. And in this case, the bad guy wanted to escape. It certainly wasn't a deliberate course of action as a way to arrest our offender.' Pickering said the man's charges are still being finalised. 'Too early to call it. But weapon charges is probably a fair way to put it,' he said. 'Even looking at the video that I've looked at, I lost count with fingers, toes and everything else in terms of how many charges that I could see. It's gone hours and hours and hours before. There'll be significant charges. 'He'll be held to account. He'll be off the streets. Obviously, his injuries will be looked at. The members will interview him, and it would be our intention to ensure that he's off the streets for as long as we can keep him off the streets.'

The van clipped multiple cars and had near-misses with dozens of others during the chase. It also hit several street signs when it mounted the curb to avoid a parked vehicle. The pursuit finally ended on Dunnings Rd in Point Cook shortly before 1pm, where a man jumped from the driver's seat window of the moving van into oncoming traffic. Car theft victim's horror as six teens injured in allegedly stolen vehicle near the Hume Hwy in Epping
The victim of an alleged aggravated burglary has spoken out after his stolen car was involved in a crash that left six teenagers seriously injured. Three 17-year-old boys, two 16-year-old boys and a 19-year-old woman were all hospitalised after the car they were travelling in veered off O'Herns Rd in Epping, Melbourne, in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The stolen Haval hit a barrier and rolled down an embankment near the Hume Fwy. Police allege the car was stolen from a home on Starboard Dr in Doreen on Tuesday morning. A grandmother, her son and five children were sleeping inside the home at the time, unaware their house had been targeted. Victim Nathan Lister said the intruders took the car keys from a table near the front door of the home. 'They've just walked in, straight in and ... grabbed the keys and (went) straight back out, left the door open and gone,' he said. 'My 12-year-old daughter is asleep ... and they've had to walk past (her) door, it's so brazen.' Lister said the outcome for his family could have been much worse. 'It's lucky the keys were at the front door, because you just don't know what could have happened,' he said. 'It's a horrific end to a little bit of fun.' The stolen Haval was allegedly spotted speeding by police in Whittlesea and South Morang just prior to the crash. It was tracked by the Air Wing, with stop sticks successfully deployed to stop the car. The youths however continued on driving for seven minutes before they crashed. All six teenagers remain in hospital under police guard. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any CCTV/dashcam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
