After Air India tragedy, Boeing CEO pulls out of Paris Airshow 2025; GE postpones big event amid global shock
Boeing and GE Aerospace have announced they will scale back public appearances at next week's Paris Airshow after the tragic Air India plane crash that claimed more than 240 lives. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, heading from Ahmedabad to London, crashed shortly after take-off on Thursday, making it the deadliest aviation disaster in over a decade. Boeing CEO Cancels Trip Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg said in a message to staff that he and Boeing Commercial Airplanes head Stephanie Pope had cancelled their plans to attend the Paris Airshow. 'We want to stay with our team and focus on our customer and the ongoing investigation,' Ortberg stated. The Paris Airshow, scheduled from June 16 to 20, is the world's biggest aviation industry event, where aircraft manufacturers often announce new deals. Ortberg was supposed to attend the show for the first time as Boeing CEO. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Ethiopia: Unsold Sofas at Bargain Prices (View Current Prices) Sofas | Search Ads Search Now Undo GE Postpones Investor Meet GE Aerospace, which made the engines used in the crashed Boeing aircraft, also cancelled its investor day planned for June 17. The company said it is assembling a team to travel to India to help with the investigation. 'GE Aerospace's senior leadership is focusing on supporting our customer and the official probe,' the company said, adding that it will share financial updates later this month. Live Events Early Stage of Investigation Experts say it's too early to guess the cause of the crash. As per a Reuters report, Paul Hayes, a safety director at UK-based Cirium Ascend, said accidents during take-off are rare and usually result from a mix of multiple factors. As per global rules, India will lead the investigation, supported by U.S. NTSB officials, who will coordinate with Boeing and GE on technical matters. A Gloomy Airshow Ahead The crash has brought a somber mood to the Paris Airshow. Delegates said that many order announcements could be delayed or cancelled out of respect for the victims. Boeing has already dropped some events and is not expected to announce any major aircraft orders at the show. A major deal expected from Royal Air Maroc, which was considering an order for dozens of Boeing jets and Airbus A220s, is now unlikely to be announced during the event. Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury expressed his condolences and said the company would keep a low profile at the show. One delegate summed up the atmosphere: 'The show will continue, but it will be more muted and respectful, not the usual celebratory tone.' Inputs from Reuters

Morocco's Royal Air Maroc nears major aircraft deal with Boeing and Airbus
Morocco's national carrier, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), is in the final stages of placing its biggest aircraft order to date, as it looks to expand its fleet to support the country's growing aviation ambitions. According to sources cited by Bloomberg on Wednesday, RAM is considering purchasing around two dozen Boeing 787 Dreamliners for long-haul routes and as many as 50 Boeing 737s for short-haul operations. It is also in talks to acquire about 20 Airbus A220s for regional travel. The size and timing of the order remain flexible, but the Airbus deal could be announced as early as next week during the Paris Air Show. The Boeing order, on the other hand, may be delayed until a future meeting between King Mohammed VI and U.S. President Donald Trump. A RAM spokesperson confirmed to Bloomberg that the airline would announce the results of its tender to acquire 188 aircraft within days, without providing further details. If finalized, this would mark the airline's largest order in its 60-year history. RAM currently operates a fleet of 50 aircraft, including Boeing 737-800s, 787 Dreamliners, and Embraer 190s. The airline seeks to grow both its passenger and cargo operations ahead of Morocco's co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, aiming to attract 26 million tourists by that year.
