Three people are dead following two separate collisions in southern Alberta on Saturday.

A 51-year-old Strathmore man was killed after a Dodge truck crossed into oncoming traffic and struck his Ford Mustang, according to RCMP.

Airdrie and Beiseker RCMP responded to a report of the two-vehicle collision on Highway 9, three kilometres south of Irricana, Alta. at around 5:43 p.m. Saturday.

The man, the driver and sole occupant of the Mustang, was found dead at the scene.

The driver of a Dodge truck, a 16-year-old female, and three teenage passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

'Although the investigation into the cause of the collision continues, initial reports indicate that the Dodge truck swerved into oncoming traffic and struck the Ford Mustang,' RCMP said in a release.

Highway 9 was temporarily closed between Highway 567 and Township Road 270 while police investigated. The scene has since been cleared and traffic has resumed.

On Saturday morning, two senior residents of Lacombe were killed in a separate collision near Sylvan Lake, Alta.

RCMP responded to the intersection of Highway 766 and Highway 12 at around 9:55 a.m. Saturday.

'Upon arrival, the two occupants of a GMC Sierra, 75-year-old and 72-year-old male residents of Lacombe, were deceased,' RCMP said in a release.
