Server admits to shameless ‘single mom' lie for bigger tips — and other bizarre fibs frequently told

Show her the money! Aislin Parker, a waitress in San Diego, recently revealed the hack that helps her rake in some extra cash during her shifts. She posted a video to her TikTok, @aislinmarie, where she told viewers that she added a baby photo to her server book in the hopes that restaurant patrons would assume the child is her daughter — boasting that they repeatedly fall for the ruse, hook, line and sinker. 'She's six, I had her when I was 19,' she tells her clientele, inventing a full narrative, 'and her dad didn't want to stay.' According to Parker, her hack is working. Naturally, her guests assume that she's working hard for the child in the picture — technically, she is, seeing as it's her as a child — and offer up extra cash. Parker feels no reservations about her 'server hack.' In a follow-up video, she said: 'Yeah, I'm totally lying, but you gotta do what you gotta do.' 'I love to go into work and be a different person, and make something up,' she added. 'Sometimes I'll go in and have a southern drawl, like 'Hey y'all…' that's what makes work go by fast and makes it enjoyable.' Parker's whole routine may come as a shock to diners, but the biggest surprise comes in the comments. She's far from the only waitress who relies on white lies to pay her bills, especially as America seems to be growing weary of the whole concept of tipping culture, with the average gratuity left at restaurants across the country in 2024 coming in at 18.8%, per Toast data. 'I lied to a table the other day that I had to pick my kid up from school so they would leave (I don't have a kid),' revealed one like-minded server. 'Did I draw myself a 'best mom ever' card on Mother's Day with a crayon in my left hand and a backwards R and tape it to the outside of my server book so it was visible while taking orders? I can neither confirm nor deny…' a particularly crafty confessor said. Kids aren't the only thing servers lie about for pity pennies, though. 'I had earrings of Robert Patterson, and I would tell old ladies he was my husband off at war,' read one bizarre submission. Some said they reverted to classic, tried-and-true tales to swindle their tables. 'When I would mess up, I used to always say I was new there.. I was 'new' for like 6 months straight,' admitted another. 'As a high school senior waiting tables, I'd drop the check with a college-branded pen so they'd ask if I was going there, and give them a sob story about student loans, LOL worked every time,' a bright young mind shared. Others in the comments wondered whether or not customers realized their servers were lying, while some simply didn't care. 'There's a thing called free will and a thing called a choice, and they don't have to tip if they don't want to,' one supporter wrote, clapping back at haters. Tipping has always been a hot-button issue for Americans, especially as new rules and regulations surrounding the topic, like mandatory gratuity and 'living wage fees,' have been unveiled, but as it stands right now, servers maintain that 'they gotta do what they gotta do,' as Parker said.

I'm a waitress who makes big tips with this white lie — trolls say I have no morals, but I don't care

When it comes to making huge tips, she doesn't kid around. Although it's deceptively self-serving, a San Diego-based waitress has masterminded what's being deemed an 'amoral' hack for tugging at the heartstrings (and purse strings) of generous restaurant-goers. 'I put my baby picture in my server book to look like a single mom who has to provide,' Aislin Parker, 25, dished in the closed-captions of a trending TikTok tell-all, which has amassed over 2.2 million views. 'People are like, 'Is that your daughter?'' Parker said, showing off the precious photo of herself as a tot, dressed in an all-pink ensemble. 'I'm like, 'Yeah,'' continued the brunette, sharing the details of her phony sob story with a whiny tone of voice. ''She's six. I had her when I was 19. The dad didn't want to stay.'' 'It's giving single mom who works two jobs,' Parker said with a sly smirk, quoting Reba McEntire's 'I'm a Survivor' lyrics. 'I'm like, 'Help me support my baby. It's really tough.'' 'And it's working.' Parker's pity approach to making a pretty penny is one that plenty of servers are using to fatten their pockets. Tay B, a 20-something slinging wing-dings at Hooters, virally claimed that she raked in a whopping $400 in tips during one shift thanks to her protruding pregnant belly. Big-hearted customers showered the Gen Z with big bucks out of sheer sympathy for her big baby bump. Waitress Bella Woodard, however, gave herself a baby-like makeover, styling her hair in two girlish pigtails, in order to get hefty handouts from her male clientele. 'I got a $135 tip by one guy tonight,' Woodard bragged of the hairy hack. 'Wear pigtails to work, I'm boutta be doing this everyday.' The profitability of the stunts notwithstanding, haters argue that emotionally manipulating folks out of their money is totally wrong. 'So basically you are a liar,' spat an unamused commenter beneath Parker's baby pic post. 'No morals,' another outraged online barker. 'I couldn't imagine lying to make tips,' an equally disgusted detractor wrote. 'And then there are the single moms ACTUALLY working to support our kids. Two jobs,' a separate naysayer said, suggesting that Parker's money-making escapade makes a mockery of real working mothers who are going it alone. 'If you're a good server, I promise you don't have to lie to get better tips. Just sayin.' But the pennywise waitress isn't bothered by the shaming. 'So yeah, I'm like totally lying,' Parker shrugged in a subsequent snippet. 'I've donated my eggs twice, so I'm basically a mommy,' she teased. 'But I love to go into work and [become] a different person and make something up.' 'You gotta do what you gotta do.'

Server sparks fury after revealing controversial hack for securing bigger tips from customers

A picture paints a thousand words - but it's not guaranteed that those words are necessarily true. Aislin Parker, a San Diego-based server, took to TikTok to share her trick for securing larger tips that sparked a heated debate over her ethics. The restaurant worker revealed the she puts a childhood photo of herself in her server book to trick customers into thinking she is a mom which, in turn, encourages them to tip more. 'I put my baby picture in my server book to look like a single mom who has to provide,' she admitted in a video. 'When I'm taking orders I've got this,' she said, pointing to a picture of a small child wearing a pink outfit, which was stuck to the front of her book. 'They're like, "is that your daughter?" And I'm like "yeah, she's six, I had her when I was 19, her dad didn't want to stay,"' she continued. 'It's giving "single mom who works two jobs,"' she joked, quoting Reba McEntire's I'm a Survivor. '"Please help me support my baby, it's really tough,"' she added, in the vein of her serving altar-ego. 'But, it's working,' Aislin said cheerfully. While the trick seems to be working for Aislin, not all her viewers agreed with the method. 'Sever here and I would neverrrr it's giving don't know how to support myself as an adult…' slammed one user. 'I couldn't imagine lying to make tips,' admonished another. Someone else shared: 'And then there are the single moms ACTUALLY working to support our kids. Two jobs. If you're a good server, I promise you don't have to lie to get better tips. Just sayin.' Others saw no issue with her little trick, saying they support doing whatever it takes to secure some extra cash. 'Technically you are working to support the girl that's in that photo... so you not lying lying you just a little lying lol,' one person joked. 'Every time I mess something up with a table I always say "sorry I have a lot on my mind, I'm trying to pay for med school,"' another person shared, admitting their own 'hack.' 'I did this when I was pregnant with my son,' shared someone else. 'I made so much money telling them his dad was a dead beat.' While the trick seems to be working for Aislin, not all her fellow servers and customers agreed Someone else declared that 'creating a whole new personality is a part of the job.' Tipping is a hot-button topic for customers and servers alike, with some suggesting that tipping culture has gone 'too far.' While tips are an integral part of American hospitality culture, and customers are regularly reminded that leaving the waiting staff empty-handed is out of the question. Last year, Shea, a New York City-based actor and service industry worker, shocked her followers when she called out the alleged low tipper when she went to the bathroom. 'Not in this economy honey,' she raged. 'Not in New York City - one of the most expensive cities to live in.' 'Absolutely not. So what did I do?' she continued. 'I confronted her.' Shea continued, explaining she had spoken to other servers and they had also received similar tips from the woman. 'I guess this is a pattern with her,' she said. 'Her tipping range is between seven to nine per cent.' The server said she saw the woman waiting for the bathroom, which is when she went over to ask her about her low tips. 'I went up to her and I said, 'hey, how was everything tonight?'' she recalled, saying the customer had told her it was 'so great.' '[I said] awesome,' she recalled brightly. '"You left me a nine per cent tip so I wanted to see if there's any way I can improve."' The customer then reportedly paused and responded 'no.'
