Baghdad ( – The Iraqi car market is witnessing a dramatic shift, with Chinese vehicle sales soaring by an impressive 80% in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year. Over 18,000 cars from China have been imported into the country during this period, significantly up from approximately 10,000 units sold in the first half of 2024. This remarkable surge signals a burgeoning demand among Iraqi consumers for Chinese automobiles, a trend extensively analyzed by the Iraq Future Foundation for Economic Studies and Consultations. According to the foundation, the increase is primarily driven by the attractive combination of competitive pricing and robust features offered by Chinese models. Amir Al-Janabi, a leading expert in the Iraqi car market, highlighted in an exclusive interview with IraqiNews that consumer confidence has been significantly bolstered by the after-sales services. Official Chinese brand dealerships are providing a critical two-year average warranty, which covers repairs and malfunctions directly and free of charge. This comprehensive warranty is proving to be one of the most influential factors shaping purchasing decisions in the Iraqi market. Given these compelling advantages, Al-Janabi anticipates continued and even greater growth in Chinese car sales throughout the second half of this year. The total number of vehicles exported to the region increased by 65%, reaching over 584,000 units, up from 353,000 in the corresponding period of 2024. The overall value of these regional exports climbed to approximately $7.7 billion, a significant jump from $4.5 billion in the first half of 2024. This data underscores China's expanding footprint and rising demand for its vehicles across regional markets.

Iraq: Humanitarian commitment to supporting victims of Terrorism
INA - QAIRO Iraq affirmed its commitment to supporting victims of terrorism and strengthening international partnerships, on Tuesday. The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Cairo and the Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Qahtan Al-Janabi, headed the Iraqi delegation participating in the celebration of the International Day for Awareness of the Pain and Tragedies of Victims of Terrorism, held on May 27th, 2025, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, according to the Iraqi News Agency - INA reporter. Al-Janabi highlighted, in his speech at the celebration, "Iraq has made great efforts in confronting terrorism and its repercussions," noting "the great sacrifices made by Iraqis in defense of their national security and regional and international peace." "Iraq has not only achieved a battlefield victory over terrorist organizations but is also keen to continue supporting victims and those affected by it, in terms of providing financial assistance and hosting the next international conference to support victims of terrorism in 2026. This step reflects Iraq's humanitarian and moral commitment to this group that has suffered the scourge of violence and extremism," he added. The Ambassador reiterated "Iraq's firm position in supporting the efforts of the United Nations and its specialized agencies, as well as enhancing cooperation with friendly countries in the field of empowering victims of terrorism and reintegrating them into their societies as productive and active individuals." "Iraq made efforts to deepen partnerships with the United Nations offices concerned with counterterrorism. The establishment of the National Counterterrorism Center, which prioritizes providing comprehensive support to victims of terrorism, whether psychologically, socially, or legally," he pointed out. He concluded his remarks by emphasizing that "Iraq will continue to carry out its mission of combating terrorism in all its forms, defending human values, and achieving justice for its victims," thanking the League of Arab States "for organizing this important event, appreciating its efforts in shedding light on a noble humanitarian cause that requires continued regional and international cooperation."

General Electric completes 30 electrical substations in Iraq
Baghdad ( – In a step aiming to strengthen the country's electricity grid, General Electric (GE) in Iraq revealed on Wednesday that it completed 30 electrical substations. In a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the head of GE's branch in Iraq, Rashid Al-Janabi, stated that the company has achieved significant accomplishments in the energy sector over the past decade. Besides completing 30 electrical substations supporting transmission networks, GE added 19 gigawatts to the Iraqi electricity grid, according to Al-Janabi. The implementation of major projects that promote power stability and satisfy expanding requirements has advanced significantly due to strong collaboration with the Iraqi government, particularly the Ministry of Electricity, according to Al-Janabi. The Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, confirmed in February that the ministry is in the final phases of agreements with GE and Siemens to generate around 35,000 megawatts, adding that this is one of the measures that would significantly enhance the country's energy sector. GE is carrying out projects involving the establishment of several secondary plants in all Iraqi provinces and carrying out long-term maintenance tasks under previously signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in order to improve Iraq's national grid, according to a statement released earlier by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). The Iraqi government attempts to boost the capacity of electricity generation in order to meet the rising demand and support the energy requirements of different industrial sectors, many of which are undergoing major development projects nationwide. Al-Janabi mentioned earlier that the firm has been an important partner of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity for more than 50 years. Important projects have been carried out in Iraq in recent decades, according to Al-Janabi, including the provision of 19 gigawatts of electricity across the country, involving areas of Iraqi Kurdistan. Baghdad - INA General Electric in Iraq announced on Wednesday the completion of 30 substations to strengthen the country's electricity transmission networks, revealing strategic plans to convert production units from simple cycle to combined cycle. The company's director, Rashid Al-Janabi, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The company has achieved significant accomplishments in the energy sector over the past decade, adding 19 gigawatts to the Iraqi electricity grid, in addition to implementing more than 30 substations to support transmission networks." He explained that "there is close cooperation with the Iraqi government, especially the Ministry of Electricity, which has contributed to significant progress in implementing strategic projects that support electricity stability and meet growing needs." He pointed out that "the company is working, under the long-term maintenance agreement concluded with the ministry at the end of last year, to maintain the electricity generation system with a capacity of 7 gigawatts on a regular and continuous basis to ensure its readiness for the coming summer." He added, "The company seeks to modernize its power generation units using the latest GE Vernova technologies, which will increase the efficiency of the production system. Strategic plans also include converting production units from simple cycle to combined cycle, which will improve production efficiency and reduce carbon emissions by 30 percent." Regarding the transmission sector, Al-Janabi stated, "Six 132 kV transmission stations were completed last year and delivered in a record time, six months short of the scheduled timeframe. This reflects the significant progress in implementing electricity transmission projects in Iraq." He emphasized that "efforts to develop the country's energy sector continue through modernizing networks and strengthening infrastructure to ensure the provision of stable and sustainable electricity to citizens."
