Workshop aims to boost governance in charitable sector
KUWAIT: The International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO), in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Social Affairs, organized a specialized workshop on Tuesday titled 'Introduction to Compliance Management: Practical Applications' as part of its ongoing 'Tamkeen' initiative. The workshop aimed to strengthen the principles of governance and institutional compliance within Kuwait's charitable sector. Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), IICO Deputy Director General and Head of the Tamkeen initiative Abdulrahman Al-Mutawa said the workshop reflects the organization's commitment to promoting a culture of integrity, transparency and sustainability. He noted that IICO was the first charitable institution in Kuwait to establish an independent compliance and governance department in 2022 — demonstrating a proactive approach to institutional development. Al-Mutawa highlighted that the organization has successfully met all criteria of the institutional evaluation set by the Ministry of Social Affairs, including those related to organizational structure, risk management, governance and internal controls. He added that IICO continues to develop systems and policies aimed at achieving excellence in institutional performance. He also revealed plans to launch a new training program soon, which will certify 'compliance specialists' working in charitable societies in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs, providing them with the expertise needed to excel in the field. For her part, Acting Director of the Department of Charitable Societies and Endowments at the Ministry of Social Affairs Iman Al-Enezi said the workshop is part of a broader strategic initiative to embed a culture of compliance and governance in charitable institutions. She noted that the Tamkeen initiative, launched in 2018, aims to qualify professionals working in the sector and adapt to ongoing administrative and technical developments. Al-Enezi pointed out that since its inception, the initiative has conducted 46 training programs benefiting over 1,500 participants from various charitable organizations. She commended the efforts of IICO and the Tamkeen initiative, reaffirming the Ministry's commitment to supporting initiatives that enhance institutional performance in Kuwait's charitable and humanitarian sectors. The workshop was attended by senior officials from charitable associations and foundations, as well as representatives from the public sector, underscoring the joint efforts to prepare administrative cadres in line with international best practices. — KUNA

Kuwaiti legend Al-Mutawa extends career with Al-Qadsia
KUWAIT CITY, June 18: Al-Qadsia has officially announced the renewal of veteran star Bader Al-Mutawa's contract, solidifying his legacy with the "Yellow" club where he began his football journey in 2001. The move allows the 39-year-old icon to continue his illustrious career into a 24th season. Widely regarded as the most prominent figure in Kuwaiti football over the past two decades, Al-Mutawa remains a symbol of loyalty and excellence. Despite Al-Qadsia not securing any titles last season, Al-Mutawa left a noticeable impact with his performance and leadership on the pitch. Kuwaiti students excel in Doha AI and Robotics contest
DOHA, May 18: Dr. Abdullah Al-Mutawa, Head of the Asian branch of the International Organization for Leisure Activities in Science and Technology (MILSET), emphasized on Saturday that Kuwait's participation in the Doha International Competition for Artificial Intelligence, Programming, and Robotics (DIAIC) highlights the nation's commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and equipping future generations with the tools for progress. Speaking to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) at the conclusion of the two-day event, Al-Mutawa explained that Kuwait's delegation showcased four distinct robots, each symbolizing an aspect of Kuwait's national and cultural identity. The robots, named Sakhr Robot, Al-Ajari Robot, Bubyan Robot, and Al-Mubarakiya Robot, reflect significant elements of Kuwaiti heritage and achievements. Sakhr Robot honors Kuwait's pioneering role in Arab computer development.n Al-Ajari Robot is named in tribute to the late Kuwaiti astronomer Dr. Saleh Al-Ajari.n Bubyan Robot represents Bubyan Island, a symbol of Kuwaiti sovereignty and national geography.n Al-Mubarakiya Robot is named after the Mubarakiya Heritage Market, a center of Kuwaiti culture.n Al-Mutawa detailed the teams behind each robot: The Sakhr Robot team included Ahmed Hassan and Abdullah Al-Kandari, while the Mubarakiya Robot team was composed of Yousef Abdulrahman and Hussein Mansour. Kuwaiti students took part in innovative projects related to artificial intelligence, programming, sustainability solutions, and community applications. The competition atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm, as the students rose to the challenge and excelled in their respective fields. The Kuwaiti delegation, led by Abdullah Mandakar, was accompanied by an elite group of trainers, students, and parents, who actively supported the experience. Al-Mutawa expressed pride in the students' involvement, noting that their participation was not only competitive but also showcased meaningful contributions that align with sustainable development goals and Kuwait's aspirations for scientific leadership. The event saw participation from over 250 schools across more than 20 countries, making it one of the largest global events targeting students aged 7 to 18 years. Al-Qadsiya to face Duhok in final on April 9 & 16
RIYADH, March 13: Iraqi side Duhok has secured its place in the Gulf Champions League final against Al-Qadsiya after repeating its 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia's Al-Ettifaq in the second leg of the semi-finals. The two-leg final between Al-Qadsiya and Duhok is set for April 9 and 16. Al-Qadsiya owes its qualification to team captain Bader Al-Mutawa, who played a pivotal role in orchestrating the team's comeback against UAE's Al-Nasr. After trailing 2-0, Al-Mutawa took control of the game, organizing attacks and dictating play before scoring the crucial equalizer. His leadership helped force a penalty shootout, where Al-Qadsiya triumphed 4-3. Following the dramatic win, Al-Qadsiya's players and staff celebrated Al-Mutawa by lifting him and parading him in front of the passionate fans, who had rallied behind the team with a major support campaign before the match. Several Qadsia supporters announced special rewards for Al-Mutawa, while former club president Fawaz Al-Hasawi also pledged a bonus to honor the team's achievement. Sheikh Fahad Talal Al-Fahad congratulated the players, highlighting their determination and spirit. He noted that the team had overcome opponents with greater financial resources and stronger professional squads, stating, "They may surpass Qadsiya in market value, but they do not surpass us in spirit, determination, and resolve."

Ithmaar Bank announces first winner of Ithmaar Reward draw
Ithmaar Bank, a Bahrain-based Islamic retail bank, announced the winner of the first Ithmaar Reward draw that is designed exclusively for corporate Modaraba accountholders. The draw was held at the Bank's headquarters in Seef district and was coordinated and supervised by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC), as well as external auditors BDO Bahrain and the Bank's internal auditors. Amwal Trading Company won the prize, which is an additional 1% of profit on the modaraba amount. The ceremony was attended by Ahmed Al-Mutawa, a director at Amwal Trading Company. 'We are pleased to win an unexpected prize. We really appreciate Ithmaar Bank 's initiative to introduce and launch a new and unique programme to reward its corporate clients,' said Al-Mutawa. 'The reward programme supports us to continue developing and growing our businesses and it encourages us to invest more with Ithmaar Bank,' he said.
