Al-Qadsiya begins new era with Maaloul at the helm

KUWAIT CITY, July 15: Al-Qadsiya will kick off its preseason training this evening under the leadership of Tunisian coach Nabil Maaloul, as the team begins preparations for the 2025–2026 Zain Premier League season, set to begin on September 12. Maaloul and his technical staff arrived in Kuwait to officially assume their duties. Upon arrival, the experienced coach expressed his excitement about taking charge. 'I'm happy to be in Kuwait,' Maaloul said. 'I hope this will be a special season for Al-Qadsiya Club, and that we can bring joy to the fans. Our preparations officially begin today.' One of Maaloul's immediate tasks is finalizing the roster of foreign players. This follows the termination of contracts for Moroccan Ismail Khafi, Nigerian Daniel Jibola, and Algerian Hussein Dhiri. Decisions are still pending regarding the futures of Libyan Mohamed Soula and Moroccan Mehdi Berrahma. Recent media reports have linked Al-Qadsiya with several potential signings, including Tunisian striker Haithem Jouini and Algerian duo Ayoub Abdellaoui and Ghilas Kenaoui. Al-Qadsiya has agreed to release player Aziz Nasari, who has opted to continue his career with Al-Tadamon. Nasari had spent last season on loan at the club. Kuwait Club has announced that its first training session for the upcoming season will be held on July 24. The team will aim to defend its domestic treble, having won the Zain Premier League, the Crown Prince Cup, and the Super Cup last season. Kuwait Club also reached the Amir Cup final, which was originally scheduled for June 16 but postponed due to regional circumstances. Fahaheel has continued to reinforce its squad with the addition of Algerian striker Zakaria Benchaâ from CS Constantine. Benchaâ becomes the team's fourth foreign player, joining the previously signed Brazilian trio Brendon Lucas, Vitor da Silva, and Carlos. Algerian forward Ihab Boulahssini has decided to postpone choosing his next club after receiving offers from both Al-Arabi and the National Bank of Egypt. The delay comes amid additional interest from three Algerian clubs, making his final decision uncertain for now.

I'm ready to step down if Al-Hasawi rejoins: Sheikh Fahad

KUWAIT CITY, June 30: Sheikh Fahad Talal Al-Fahad, Vice President of Al-Qadsiya Club, confirmed that the club has no intention of running for any sports federation positions solely to increase player representation. In press statements, Sheikh Fahad voiced his opposition to reducing the number of matches played by Al-Qadsiya, stressing that the club has consistently achieved strong results across the various tournaments in which it competes. As head of the club's football department, Sheikh Fahad expressed his readiness to step down if Fawaz Al-Hasawi wishes to take over the management of the first team. Al-Hasawi, speaking on the 'Podcast with Mishari' hosted by former Qadsia player Mishari Jassim, revealed that he had been approached by team manager Musaed Neda to return to the club. However, he has yet to make a decision, citing concern that fans may not be patient with the team's rebuilding process, which he estimates will take four years. Sheikh Fahad also affirmed that the Al-Qadsiya Board of Directors is open to engaging with both Kuwaiti and non-Kuwaiti fans regarding the club's future. He welcomed the new government registration system via the Sahel app, calling it a positive step forward. He further emphasised that the recent increase in General Assembly registration fees helps prevent mass sign-ups, noting that the current assembly includes 7,000 members: 'I cannot manage such a large number alone,' he said.

Al-Qadsiya sets July 16 for preseason start under new coach Nabil Maaloul

KUWAIT CITY, June 15: Al-Qadsiya Club has officially announced that preseason training will kick off on July 16 under the leadership of newly appointed Tunisian coach Nabil Maaloul. The decision comes following the departure of Montenegrin coach Zeljko Petrovic, who failed to deliver results last season. The club endured a disappointing campaign, exiting all four domestic tournaments, including the Gulf Champions League, where they fell 2-1 in the second leg of the final against Iraq's Duhok (1-1 first leg). The team is counting on Maaloul to bring back the club's former glory and fulfill fans' aspirations for silverware. As part of their rebuilding plan, Al-Qadsiya renewed the contract of goalkeeper Ali Jarrah for four seasons through 2029 and midfielder Abdulaziz Wadi for five seasons. The club also signed defender Ahmed Al-Yahya, who played last season with Al-Nasr. Jarrah, 28, was rumored to be leaving the club after the expiration of his contract and was close to signing with Kazma. However, successful negotiations led to his renewal, especially after the departure of veteran goalkeeper Khaled Al-Rashidi. Meanwhile, Hameed Al-Qallaf is expected to rejoin training after a two-year absence. The future of the team's four foreign professionals — Moroccans Ismail Khafi and Mehdi Berhama, Libyan Mohamed Soula, and Nigerian Daniel Gibola — remains undecided. Their status will depend on evaluations by Coach Maaloul. However, Algerian defender Hussein Dhiri has already been released after failing to impress. Meanwhile, former Al-Qadsiya coach Zeljko Petrovic has signed with Al Dhafra in the UAE. The club recently secured promotion to the UAE Pro League and will look to Petrovic for leadership in their return to top-flight football.

Qadsia appoints Maaloul as coach for the season

KUWAIT CITY, June 12: Al-Qadsiya Club has officially appointed Tunisian coach Nabil Maaloul to lead the first team for the 2025-2026 season, succeeding Montenegrin coach Zeljko Petrovic, who leaves after a disappointing campaign without silverware. Petrovic, who was signed last September to replace national coach Mohammed Al-Mashaan, following a mutual termination in August, failed to meet the club's expectations. Under his leadership, Qadsia: Lost the Super Cup final, exited the Crown Prince Cup in the semi-finals, finished third in the Zain Premier League, and settled for runner-up in the Gulf Champions League, following a 2-1 defeat to Iraq's Duhok in the second leg after a 1-1 draw in the first. Maaloul is set to begin his tenure in July, during which he will meet with club officials to lay out a comprehensive preparation plan for the new season and assess the squad's requirements. A seasoned tactician born in 1962, Maaloul brings with him a wealth of experience. His coaching résumé includes stints with Kuwait SC, Esperance de Tunis, Al-Jaish SC, Al-Duhail SC, USM Alger, and the national teams of Tunisia, Kuwait, and Syria. He is believed to have the backing of former club president Sheikh Talal Al-Fahad and will reportedly be granted full authority over the technical staff and foreign player selection, including decisions on contract renewals and releases. The current foreign lineup at Qadsia includes: Daniel Jibola (Nigeria), Mohamed Soula (Libya) Mehdi Berhama and Ismail Khafi (Morocco), Hussein Dhiri (Algeria) – whose contract was recently terminated. Both the Qadsia board and the club's passionate fanbase are placing high hopes on Maaloul to usher in a new era of success. The Yellows have endured a challenging spell in recent years, securing only five trophies in the last decade, including: Kuwait League title (2015-2016) Crown Prince Cup (2017-2018), Super Cup (2018, 2019), Amir's Cup (last season) With a legacy of success and a fresh mandate, Maaloul now faces the task of restoring Qadsia's place at the summit of Kuwaiti football.
