Ashura Drive Goes Green
TDT | Manama A sustainability-focused campaign held during this year's Ashura season saw Capital Municipality mobilise public and private actors to ensure clean, safe, and orderly commemorations across the capital. Launched under the slogan 'Sustainable through your efforts', the campaign brought together the Capital Municipality, Gulf City Cleaning Company, municipal council members, and leaders of matams and mourning centres. The efforts focused on preserving environmental standards and elevating public services in line with the season's spiritual significance. Field visits completed Director General Eng. Mohammed Saad Al-Sahli led inspection visits to several mourning centres and procession locations in the Capital Governorate. He was joined by MP Ahmed Sabah Salman Al-Salloum, Municipal Council Chairman Eng. Saleh Tarada, and other senior officials. The teams reviewed cleanliness measures, site readiness, and coordination mechanisms in place to ensure smooth operations during the religious events. They also met organisers and supervisors to assess local needs and reinforce safety standards. Al-Sahli emphasised that sustainability is not limited to environmental protection, but also encompasses civic values and public responsibility. Awareness and action The municipality had earlier conducted coordination meetings with representatives of mourning centres and civic partners to launch the campaign. Awareness drives encouraged residents to participate in waste sorting, reduce plastic use, and maintain the cleanliness of religious sites. 'This year, the campaign elevated sustainability beyond just waste management. It became a message about conscious citizenship,' Al-Sahli said. Council Chairman Eng. Saleh Tarada highlighted the strength of community partnerships as a pillar of municipal work, calling the cooperation between the municipality and funeral organisers a model for future initiatives. The Capital Municipality credited the success of this year's Ashura observance to the collective efforts of residents, volunteers, and partner agencies.

HONG KONG, July 1: Kuwait has secured the right to host the Asian Sports Press Association (ASPA) Congress in 2026, after winning the majority of votes during the Association's General Assembly held in Hong Kong. The Kuwaiti delegation at the meeting was led by Sattam Al-Sahli, Chairman of the Sports Media Committee, along with committee member Khalil Nadoum. Al-Sahli expressed his gratitude to the General Assembly members for their confidence in Kuwait, emphasizing that the country will present an exemplary model of hosting. He affirmed Kuwait's readiness and proven capability to organize major meetings and tournaments with excellence and professionalism. Hail red meat project part of pipeline to boost red meat production: ADF CEO
The Agricultural Development Fund (ADF) has been and continues to be a major supporter of food security and rural development in various regions of Saudi Arabia, CEO Munir Al-Sahli told Argaam in an interview. The signing of the financing agreement for the sheep-beef farming project in Hail today, March 24, under which a farm specialized in red meat production will be established at SAR 1.1 billion, came within the framework of the National Agriculture Strategy. It is aimed at promoting food security, creating job opportunities, and boosting local content, Al-Sahli stated. Saudi Arabia has successfully achieved 61% self-sufficiency in red meat production, thanks to the government's great support for the food security sector, said the top executive. He also noted that the Hail red meat project is part of a project pipeline aimed at supporting local red meat production, thus raising self-sufficiency and stabilizing prices in local markets. He added that this project represents a huge investment opportunity. It is set to contribute to the development of supply chains and will provide contractual opportunities for small breeders by bolstering their access to more sector-related areas of expertise. Moreover, the project will rely on Saudi-made equipment, which enhances local content in the agricultural sector, the CEO pointed out. ADF continues to support modern technologies and innovation in the agricultural sector for raising more financing for projects that rely on advanced tech. It also strives to spread their use among breeders to enhance production efficiency, according to Al-Sahli. According to Argaam 's data, ADF signed today a financing agreement with Alraie National Livestock Co., a 51%-owned subsidiary of National Agricultural Development Co. (NADEC), with a ceiling of SAR 1.1 billion. The funds will be used to establish a project focused on intensive livestock breeding (sheep and goats), reproduction, and meat production. The amount will be disbursed in stages based on the project's progress and the submission of required documents.
