Arab Children: Nurturing cultural identity and leadership
The session will feature broad participation from parliament members from various Arab countries. This comes as part of APC ongoing preparations for the second session of its fourth term at the headquarters of the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) in the United Arab Emirates. Fostering Arab heritage The session reflects the great interest APC places in instilling and consolidating the concepts of Arab cultural identity in children's minds, and in fostering pride in the cultural and value-based heritage of Arab countries. This will instil a sense of belonging and enhance pride in language, history, and culture, contributing to building generations capable of defending their values and identity in the face of accelerating challenges. Empowering Arab children The session will be held under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and with the support and follow-up of His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States. This reflects the shared Arab commitment to empowering Arab children to perform their dialogue and expressive roles within an effective institutional environment. The session will be chaired by Elias Al Maani, President of APC in the Sultanate of Oman, in a move that affirms the principle of empowering children and motivating them to assume leadership roles that enhance their skills and open up horizons for them to think, discuss, and present visions and proposals on issues that affect their reality and aspirations. Cultural identity of the Arab child His Excellency Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of APC, emphasised that the Cultural Identity Session comes at an important time when the emerging generations need to reconnect with their rich Arab culture and open up to the world while adhering to their roots and authenticity. Al Barout stated that the Parliament has been keen to ensure that its sessions provide a free and responsible platform for the children of the Arab world, where they can express their visions and participate in building their future with confidence and determination. Al Barout added that holding this session in the Emirate of Sharjah, the Arab Capital of Culture, under the generous patronage of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, is a source of pride and honour, embodying the UAE's vision to support and empower children at the Arab and international levels. APC, A unique platform unifying Arab children Al Barout pointed out that APC engagement through this session is important in consolidating its presence as a unique Arab platform that brings together Arab children within an institutional dialogue and development framework. APC boosts Arab children participation in media creativity
The twelfth issue of the Little Parliamentarian magazine represents an important step forward in this unique cultural project, which has grown to become an important platform for young voices in the Arab world. It reflects the dreams of Arab children and aligns with Sharjah's commitment to empowering kids and enhancing their roles in society and development. At the start of the meeting, Al Barout welcomed all members of the editorial board and emphasized that the magazine serves as a platform for sharing knowledge and culture that truly reflects the dreams and voices of children in the Arab world. He encouraged creativity and boldness in writing, inviting everyone to use their experiences and skills in preparing content for the magazine, while also emphasizing the importance of participating in training offered by the APC. Al Barout highlighted the significant responsibilities the editorial board has. This includes improving the content of the magazine and exploring members' interests in various creative fields like culture, writing, sports, and more, to help shape a generation that is knowledgeable and media savvy. During the meeting, Dr. Haidar Waqi Allah, the editor-in-chief, discussed the essential guidelines for writing articles and explained how to work on different sections of the magazine. He noted that the magazine is not just a way of sharing ideas but also a vital platform for helping children think critically and learn about important values. Marwa Al Suwaidi, a well-known media personality, then presented the different sections of the magazine, which cover topics like current issues, parliamentary culture, literature, science, and creativity. She pointed out the importance of adding fresh topics that reflect the life experiences of Arab children today, especially concerning technology, education, health, children's rights, and community involvement. She also stressed the need for children to have a space where they can voice their thoughts and dreams. The young members of the editorial board reviewed previous magazine issues to understand the style and content better and to suggest improvements that resonate with their interests. They are actively gathering ideas for the upcoming issue from current members, children in the Parliamentary Club, and kids across the Arab world, and they are carefully reviewing these submissions to pick the best ones for publication. Finally, the child editors will participate in specialized training focused on media and journalism to help them enhance their skills in writing, editing, and expressing themselves. This training will help them become capable of producing high-quality content that meets professional standards and reflects the growth of the magazine.

Sharjah prepares for July session of APC
The Arab Parliament for the Child (APC) will convene its second session of the fourth cycle at its headquarters in Sharjah from July 22-27, under the patronage of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the follow-up of Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States. The organisational committees of the Arab Parliament for the Child held a coordination meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Ayman Othman Al Barout, Secretary-General of the APC, to prepare and examine all organisational, technical and administrative details to ensure the success of this event. Participants reviewed the operational progress and followed up on coordination efforts with supporting partners and collaborating entities within the Government of Sharjah. They also discussed the latest developments related to receiving delegations from Arab countries and parliamentary teams participating in the session, in coordination with the League of Arab States and its accredited permanent missions in Cairo. Al-Barout affirmed that under the wise directives of Sharjah's leadership, the Arab Parliament for the Child remains committed to organising the children's parliamentary session to the highest professional and institutional standards. He noted that Sharjah will host young Arab parliamentarians this July, who will gather at the Sharjah Consultative Council to voice their visions, concerns and issues from their communities through a parliamentary approach based on dialogue and conscious expression. Recently, the APC took part in the 17th National Conference on Children's Rights in Morocco. Al Barout delivered a speech during the opening session. He conveyed greetings from the Parliament's headquarters in Sharjah and praised Morocco's leadership, under King Mohammed VI, for its commitment to advancing child rights amidst modern social and technological shifts. Al Barout emphasised that today's children are more aware and engaged than ever, enabling them to be active partners in sustainable development rather than passive recipients. He called for meaningful inclusion of children in planning, implementation, and evaluation processes through genuine dialogue platforms that allow them to express their aspirations and challenges. Sharjah to host 4th APC on February 22
Preparations As part of the preparations, an integrated platform for electronic voting has been set up, in addition to providing traditional ballot boxes, allowing child members to cast their votes easily and transparently. Voting mechanism This session witnesses a major development in the voting mechanism, as the Secretary-General of the Arab Parliament for the Child (APC), Ayman Othman Al Barout, explained that voting was done manually through ballot boxes during the first session, then a special electronic mechanism was developed during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the smooth continuation of the electoral process, while in this session, an approved electronic programme will be used that meets all electoral integrity standards. Al Barout added that a specialised electoral committee will supervise the electoral process, and will work under the chairmanship of the Secretary-General of the Arab Parliament for the Child (APC), and this committee will handle all stages of the electoral process, from entering information to announcing the results, while adhering to the highest levels of transparency. Al Barout stressed that the process of recording and documenting the vote is one of the most important standards of transparency, as every step is recorded accurately, which ensures the children's satisfaction with the integrity of the electoral process, noting that there were no appeals in previous rounds, but rather the results were fully appreciated and appreciated by all members. Results Regarding the announcement of the results, he explained that the sorting process does not take more than an hour, as the sorting steps are displayed moment by moment on a screen in front of all members, which allows them to follow the course of the electoral process with complete transparency until the final result appears and is officially announced. Training Al Barout pointed out that child members will be trained on voting mechanisms before participating in the electoral session, to ensure the ease of the process and their understanding of all its procedures. This awareness includes two stages: the first is through an introductory video explaining the voting steps, and the second is through a practical rehearsal that simulates the real voting process, which makes members ready to undergo the electoral experience easily and smoothly.
