Doha The Qatar National Archive announced its participation in the State of Qatar's pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025 - one of the world's leading events focused on innovation and knowledge diversity. Running from July 21 to 25, the Archive will present an interactive digital experience that showcases Qatar's documentary heritage using modern tools that bridge technology and tradition. As part of its participation, Qatar National Archive will offer a range of interactive activities, including a virtual reality experience in document restoration. Commenting on the occasion, Secretary General of Qatar National Archive, Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Al Buainain stated that the decision to participate in Expo Osaka 2025 stems from their belief in the significance of this international platform as a space that reflects institutional progress and highlights Qatar's efforts in preserving its documentary heritage through advanced technologies. This participation strengthens the integration of national identity with the tools of the digital age. He added that the event offers a practical opportunity to enhance shared archival heritage and expand avenues of collaboration with institutions dedicated to memory preservation around the world. Dr Al Buainain also noted that the Archive partnered with Ajyal Educational Center to select a group of outstanding students to serve as youth ambassadors. NAQ, Microsoft partner todigitise national documents

QNA Doha The National Archives of Qatar (NAQ) has signed a strategic cooperation framework with Microsoft Qatar to digitise and facilitate access to national documents. NAQ Secretary-General Dr Ahmed Abdullah Al Buainain said the move enhances institutional knowledge, preserves national identity and supports decision-making in line with the sustainability and governance pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030. He added the partnership is part of NAQ's 2025–2030 strategy that seeks an integrated document management system based on digital transformation, innovation and sustainability. Dr Al Buainain elaborated that the cooperation continues the innovative initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to drive economic growth, improve the quality of public services, and foster a culture of creativity to advance national innovation. Meanwhile, Microsoft Qatar General Manager Lana Khalaf took her pride in the partnership, hailing NAQ's endeavors to leverage technology to protect national memory. Through Microsoft Azure's cloud technologies and artificial intelligence applications, Microsoft is contributing to the development of an advanced, sustainable, and secure digital preservation system, she said. Khalaf affirmed that this collaboration reflects Microsoft's commitment to empowering Qatari institutions to enhance their digital capabilities and to provide cloud infrastructure that supports development and innovation, in line with the highest standards of security and digital sovereignty. The project digitizes both print and digital newspapers, as well as social media archives, as part of a vision aimed at enriching national content and facilitating access for researchers and interested individuals. Work is also underway to develop a unified digital platform that will offer more than 32 services in the coming years, including document registration, restoration, research requests, interaction with experts, and electronic access to national records. The platform will feature advanced search tools, contribute to improving the efficiency of services provided, and reduce reliance on paper-based procedures.

‘Student registration for 2025-2026 academic year smooth, flexible'

QNA Doha The student registration process for the 2025-2026 academic year has been smooth and flexible, Director of the Schools and Student Affairs Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) Maryam Ali Al Nesef Al Buainain has confirmed. After the full transition to public schools, which are responsible for implementing registration procedures, the ministry's student admission and registration department is responsible for following up on applications according to approved regulations, while ensuring balanced student distribution and avoiding overcrowding in schools. Al Buainain said that if there are no vacancies available at the school where the guardian lives through the Maaref Portal for Public Services, they can register or transfer to one of the alternative schools shown on the system. She added that if there are no vacancies at the parent's school or alternative schools, the parent can contact the school where they live to request assistance with registration or transfer, stressing that the school will contact the ministry's registration officer to provide the parent with a school that can be provided to register or transfer the student. She noted that the ministry provides a bus request service after completing initial registration, giving students the option of taking the bus or not, which contributes to the ministry's readiness to meet transportation needs for the upcoming academic year. Al Buainain explained that if documents are missing or conditions are not met, the registration request will not be rejected. Instead, a return request service will be available, giving the guardian the opportunity to complete the paperwork without losing their seat. She warned against the circulation of misinformation on social media platforms regarding the registration process, urging parents to obtain information from official sources. She emphasised that the ministry's website includes all details related to the registration process, its steps, requirements, and eligible categories. The number of new students expected to enrol this year ranges between 16,000 and 17,000. The number of government schools amounts to 218 schools for boys and girls at various levels, in addition to 65 kindergartens. Al Buainain announced the opening of two new schools this year in areas with high student density: a secondary school for boys in Umm Salal and a primary school for girls in Al Wakra. As for those with special needs, Al Buainain emphasised that public schools provide advanced support services for this group, urging parents who have not completed their file to visit one of the Roua centres to determine the student's level, thus facilitating subsequent registration. She noted the existence of high-level integration centres, with plans to open new specialised schools in the future. The director of Schools and Student Affairs Department stressed that there are no exceptions to the registration process, noting that the ministry only takes into account the student's age characteristics. If vacancies are not available at the desired school within the geographical area, the guardian must accept the alternative option. A hotline is also available to receive inquiries during official working hours.

She emphasized that the ministry seeks to open new schools in the future to reduce student density and provide schools close to student housing. Qataris, children of Qatari women, and children of GCC citizens are given priority in enrollment in the schools their siblings attend. As for those with special needs, Al Buainain emphasized that public schools provide advanced support services for this group, urging parents who have not completed their file to visit one of the Roua centers to determine the student's level, thus facilitating subsequent registration.
