ADSS 2025 unites Abu Dhabi through sports and fitness this summer
25 June 2025 01:45 SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)For many UAE residents determined to stay active amid rising temperatures, taking part in Abu Dhabi Summer Sports (ADSS) has become yearly routine — and the annual event's organisers have made sure there's always something exciting to look forward as the Middle East's biggest indoor summer sports event, ADSS is now in full swing and will continue until August 21. It runs from 6am to 1am every day at ADNEC Centre Abu by ADNEC Group in partnership with Abu Dhabi Sports Council, ADSS 2025 features over 50 inclusive community events and summer camps, plus the launch of the HYROX indoor fitness race on July Al Hashimi, an engineer who lives in Abu Dhabi, is a regular ADSS participant.'This is my third or fourth year attending the event … and the organisation improves year after year. This time, the expansion and relief from the summer heat really stood out.'The ADSS venue has been expanded by 10% to over 37,000 square metres, with 52 courts and tracks, including an enhanced 1.2km running Hashimi lauded the variety of sports that people can take part in throughout the fest. 'From basketball to new additions like fencing — there is something for everyone. It brings people together in a healthy, energetic setting,' he told Aletihad . The all-new Club Zone also provides a venue for combat sports and strength training, such as weightlifting, archery, judo, muay thai, and distinctive improvements were all based on community feedback, said Ahmed Shaker, CEO of Capital 360 & Events, the ADSS organiser. 'Community feedback is at the heart of how Abu Dhabi Summer Sports has evolved. Each year, we actively listen to what our visitors want, whether that's more space, new sports, or easier access, and we use that input to shape the experience,' Shaker told Aletihad . 'We have also brought in new classes, including judo, muay thai, and jiu-jitsu, all based on popular demand from the community. We aim to create an event that reflects the needs and interests of the people we serve,' he added. For Sports Lovers and FamiliesFor businesswoman and long-distance runner Hanan Mahmoud, ADSS is a saviour, a much-needed fitness space this season. 'It saved us [sports lovers] from the heat… Summer makes it almost impossible to train, but here we have returned to the sport we love, uninterrupted,' she the importance of sports in her life, Mahmoud said: 'After workouts, my mindset shifts - I become calmer and more accepting of pressure. Sport has become key in my life emotionally and mentally.'Parents consider ADSS a big help, too, as it engages children in exciting physical activities throughout the school Al Zaabi, father of three kids aged 7 to 10, praised the event. 'Instead of letting our children sit in front of screens, we invite them to participate in marathons and events … The place is air-conditioned and enclosed, which is important in the summer heat.'Al Zaabi said his children love running and ball games, and at ADSS, aside from being able to do sports, they get to expand their social circles, offers summer camps that are designed to be both fun and enriching for children, said Shaker.'Children participate in sports like football, martial arts, and tennis, while also enjoying storytelling, arts and crafts, and strategy games like chess that encourage critical thinking. These camps promote physical development alongside educational growth, providing a well-rounded summer experience,' he Ahmed Elkouk encouraged the early introduction of sports to youngsters.'Children can start young and become champions if they have talent. We must encourage them to love sports early,' he said. Uniting Communities ADSS has also prioritised accessibility and inclusivity, allowing people of determination - of all ages - to take part in activities.'Our programming is designed to be safe, inclusive, and welcoming. Trained staff, first aid, and emergency response teams are available at all times to ensure the health and safety of all participants,' Shaker said. ADSS and AASS in Al Ain offer much more than sports, he said. 'They are a direct contribution to national goals around wellbeing and community engagement. These events promote physical activity and provide a space for families, friends, and community members to come together. Sports connect and unite people through competition.'

Five days after I do, Hashimi says yes again — this time to Al Ain's call of duty

Just five days after his wedding, he rejoined training and traveled with the squad to Washington, to prepare for Al Ain's historic participation in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. In his remarks from the team's training camp, Al Hashimi praised the highly positive atmosphere and strong sense of discipline among the players. He also expressed his appreciation for the unwavering support and direct involvement of Sheikh Sultan Bin Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Al Ain FC's Board of Directors. Al Hashimi noted that Sheikh Sultan's constant encouragement and generous support create the ideal conditions for the team to honorably represent the UAE on this global stage. 'When the call of duty involves the name and reputation of the UAE, there is absolutely no room for hesitation,' Al Hashimi said. 'We fully understand the responsibility that lies ahead, and we must prove ourselves worthy of this trust.' Quoting the well-known English proverb, he continued, 'No gains without sacrifices. Salem Al Qasimi attends SEA's graduation ceremony
Sheikh Salem Bin Abdulrahman Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Ruler's Office, attended the third graduation ceremony of the Sharjah Education Academy (SEA) on Sunday. The event took place at the University City Hall in Sharjah. Following the rendition of the UAE national anthem, Dr Muhadditha Al Hashimi, Chairperson of the Academy, delivered a speech in which she expressed deep gratitude to His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his continued support of the Academy since its establishment. Dr Al Hashimi thanked Sheikh Salem for honouring the graduates. She congratulated the graduates and their families, wishing them success. She praised Sharjah's impressive achievements in education, noting the ongoing support from the Ruler of Sharjah, and emphasised that this graduating class is part of a bigger vision for excellence in education. The Academy graduated 313 individuals from different academic programmes, including teachers, school leaders, and early childhood specialists. This included 145 graduates from the third group of the Postgraduate Diploma in Education, 74 from the second group of the Master of Education in Educational Leadership, 28 from the first group of the Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership, and 66 from the second group of the Certificate in Early Childhood Education. Among them, 28 graduates participated in the 'I Am Proud to Be a Teacher' programme. Dr Al Hashimi ended her speech with a warm message to the graduates, highlighting their role as ambassadors of excellence and supporters of meaningful education. She encouraged them to promote Sharjah's vision for quality education with dedication, passion, and a commitment to lifelong learning. She urged them to take on their responsibilities as decision-makers and innovators, helping to shape the future of education in line with Sharjah's forward-thinking approach. For her part, Pauline Taylor-Guy, Chancellor of Sharjah Education Academy, delivered a speech in which she congratulated the graduates, highlighting the Academy's role in preparing educators. Teacher's oath and closing ceremony At the conclusion of the graduation ceremony, the graduates recited the Teacher's Oath: "I swear by Almighty God to observe God in the teaching profession, to protect my students in all circumstances, to do my utmost in their education, to instill a love of the homeland in their hearts, and to be sincere in the teaching profession, and God is my witness." World Lupus Day: AIA empowers community through autoimmune awareness initiative
10 May 2025 08:47 SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)In observance of World Lupus Day on May 10, the Autoimmune Association (AIA) recently hosted a workshop aimed at raising awareness about autoimmune conditions and helping individuals recognise symptoms AIA partnered with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment for the event that brought together specialists, media representatives, as well as ministry Eman Al Hashimi, Founder and President of BoD in AIA, presented an in-depth session exploring the nature of autoimmune diseases, their most common types, and the critical importance of early detection and innovative treatment strategies. She also addressed key contributing factors, such as genetic and environmental triggers, the role of lifestyle and nutrition, and the diseases' profound psychological and social impact on patients. Speaking to Aletihad on the sidelines of the event, Dr. Al Hashimi explained how raising awareness about lupus supports the broader mission of the AIA. "Raising awareness about lupus helps shine a light on the wider group of autoimmune diseases that are often misunderstood or misdiagnosed. It's not just about one disease — it is about changing how people view invisible illnesses, and that's at the core of AIA's mission.'The workshop aimed to equip the public with essential knowledge about autoimmune diseases, empowering them to make informed decisions when faced with these conditions or associated symptoms. 'With this workshop, I hoped we could break down the fear and confusion around autoimmune conditions, and help people recognize symptoms early. Early detection can make a huge difference in someone's quality of life,' Dr. Al Hashimi said. The event was supervised by Dr. Atheer Al Ansari, AIA's Chief Medical Consultant, who facilitated discussions and enriched the audience's understanding of comprehensive patient care workshop drew strong community engagement, reflecting growing public interest in autoimmune health and reinforcing the association's mission to bridge the gap between medicine and Al Hashimi emphasised the importance of involving the community in discussions around healthcare. 'Community outreach allows us to meet people where they are — it turns medical knowledge into something personal and accessible. Collaborating with partners like the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment amplifies that message and builds trust across different sectors of society.'
