'Summer of the Future' program continues at UTAS–Al Mussanah with strong community engagement
The University of Technology and Applied Sciences – Al Mussanah continues to deliver its 'Summer of the Future' program, drawing wide participation from various community groups. The program reflects the university's deep commitment to its societal mission and its pivotal role in human development. This initiative is part of a broader series of community-centered programs launched by the university to enhance life skills, cultivate innovation, and foster entrepreneurship among youth, aligned with a clear vision that sees education to empower a capable generation contributing effectively to national development. Dr. Nasser Salem Al Baimani, Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UTAS–Al Mussanah, emphasized that the university plays a vital role in supporting comprehensive development through educational and training programs that respond to community needs. 'The Summer of the Future program is a practical embodiment of the university's societal responsibility. We view education as a tool for building both individuals and society,' he said. He added that community engagement is a top priority, particularly in the South Al Batinah Governorate—a region full of developmental potential requiring collective academic and societal efforts. Dr. Al Baimani also noted the university's focus on nurturing a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, encouraging scientific research that addresses local issues and supports sustainable development. He stressed that such initiatives contribute to preparing national talents capable of participating in building a sustainable knowledge economy, in line with Oman Vision 2040. He concluded by reaffirming the university's commitment to expanding its societal impact through strategic partnerships and dynamic programs that keep pace with rapid changes and invest in young minds—the true foundation of any sustainable renaissance. As the program continues, it offers a diverse range of technical, soft skills, and creative workshops, tailored to meet the participants' needs and interests. This variety enhances the initiative's overall positive impact, both individually and socially. Running through mid-August 2025, the program aims to help participants make productive use of their summer break by offering a diverse range of training workshops tailored to meet the needs of various community groups. The program covers multiple fields, including modern technology, innovation, digital transformation,leadership, and entrepreneurship, all designed to enhance participants' knowledge and professional capabilities. With over 45 training programs led by a team of academics and specialized experts, the initiative ensures high-quality, hands-on learning experience that equips participants with practical, market-relevant skills applicable across different sectors. Dr. Nasser Salim Al Baimani, Assistant Vice-Chancellor of UTAS-Al Mussanah, emphasized that organizing such programs aligns with the university's strategic plan to integrate education with real community and labor market needs. Dr. Khalifa Salim Al-Hatmi, Head of the Department of Continuing Education and Community Service, described 'Summer of the Future' as a practical embodiment of the university's mission to spread knowledge and promote lifelong learning.'We are proud to launch this program, which opens new horizons for participants and helps them discover their potential and develop their skills,' he stated. Dr. Al-Hatmi added that the program has received significant attention, an encouraging sign of growing awareness about the value of investing summertime in skill-building and personal development, beyond traditional vacation norms. Several participants also expressed the importance of such initiatives in supporting their professional aspirations, noting that 'Summer of theFuture' provided them with a unique learning opportunity that combines academic rigor with practical application. OJT partners, UTAS graduates feted
MUSSANAH: The University of Technology and Applied Sciences – Al Mussanah (UTAS-Al Mussanah), through its Training and Career Guidance Center, hosted the second graduates gathering and recognition ceremony on June 19. Held under the auspices of Dr Munia bint Mohammed al Farsiyah, Deputy Assistant Vice-Chancellor for E-Systems and Student Services, the event recognised key partner institutions involved in the On-the-Job Training (OJT) Programme for the 2024-2025 academic year. A total of 20 public and private sector institutions were honoured for their support in providing students with practical, real-world training experiences. Notably, the Royal Navy of Oman received special recognition for training over 100 students across the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 academic years, establishing itself as one of the university's most active OJT partners. The gathering also brought together UTAS graduates currently employed at the Al Mussanah campus. The event provided a vibrant and engaging atmosphere, filled with graduate-led activities and entertainment that encouraged networking and connection among attendees. In her address, Dr Al Farsi lauded the contributions of the partner institutions and stressed the importance of strengthening ties with the labour market to enhance student preparedness and align with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of commemorative plaques and certificates of appreciation, reaffirming the university's commitment to building impactful partnerships and advancing training initiatives in step with national development goals.

Under the patronage of Dr. Munia Mohammed Al-Farsi, Deputy Assistant Vice-Chancellor for E-Systems and Student Services, the Training and Career Guidance Center at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences – Al Mussanah, represented by the Graduate Follow-up and On-the-Job Training Sections, hosted the Second Graduates Gathering and Recognition Ceremony for Partner Institutions involved in the On-the-Job Training Program for the 2024/2025 academic year. The event took place on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the university campus in Al Mussanah. During the ceremony, 20 institutions from the public and private sectors were honored for their contributions to the success of the OJT program and for providing students with real-world training opportunities. Special recognition was given to the Royal Navy of Oman, which accommodated over 100 student trainees across the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic years, making it one of the program's most active partners. The event also featured the Second Graduates Gathering, dedicated this year to university graduates currently employed at the Al Mussanah branch. The gathering fostered a warm and engaging environment filled with entertainment, and graduates -led activities that encouraged connection among attendees. Oman IoT & AI Challenge 2025
The University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Al-Mussanah hosted the final round of the Oman IoT & AI Challenge 2025 at the university's theater. The challenge aims to inspire innovation and strengthen the technical skills of young people and entrepreneurs in Oman. It also reflects Oman's commitment to encouraging innovation and technology as key pillars of its digital future by creating a competitive environment that promotes research and entrepreneurship. In his speech, Dr. Nasser Al-Baimani, AVC of the university, emphasized the importance of IoT and AI in developing young minds and inspiring creativity. He highlighted that the challenge is not only a test of technical skills but also an opportunity to empower participants to transform their ideas into real projects that contribute to sustainable development. He also stressed the university's role in enhancing students' skills by enabling them to develop smart solutions that address current challenges and support digital transformation. The final round brought together the top projects and startups from the semi-final stage, selected through strict criteria focused on technical excellence and added value. Participants underwent a thorough evaluation, where projects were filtered based on quality, innovation, and practical application. The most outstanding teams advanced to the final, with winners set to represent Oman in the Arab IoT & AI Challenge—giving them a chance to compete regionally and raise the standard of innovation and excellence. Dr. Saeed Al-Rubaie, Vice Chancellor of the university, inaugurated the accompanying exhibition, which featured five startups and 22 student graduation projects. Participants came from university branches across Al-Mussanah, Sohar, Salalah, Ibri, Nizwa, Ibra, Muscat, Shinas, Sur, as well as Sohar University and Majan University College. The exhibition served as a platform to encourage students and entrepreneurs to develop tech solutions and foster stronger collaboration between academia and industry, opening new opportunities for collaboration and investment in emerging technologies. The Oman IoT & AI Challenge is a national platform that aims to promote innovation and enhance technical skills in IoT and AI. The challenge empowers youth and entrepreneurs to develop smart solutions addressing challenges across sectors, strengthening Oman's position as a regional hub for technological innovation.
