Qatar: Realty sector sees significant growth in mortgage activity
Doha: The volume of mortgage transactions of the real estate sector in Qatar recorded 117 transactions with a total amount of QR4.664bn in May this year. This shows a surge of 103 percent when compared to the previous month as the volume of mortgage transactions during April 2025 amounted to 114 transactions, with a total value of QR2.299bn. Doha Municipality and Al Rayyan Municipality registered the highest number of mortgage transactions with 31 (equivalent to 26.5 percent) of the total number of mortgaged properties, followed by Al Wakrah Municipality with 19 transactions (equivalent to 16.2 percent). Then Al Khor, Al Dhakira and Umm Slal municipalities with 9 transactions each (equivalent to 7.7 percent) of the total number of mortgaged properties, according to data released by Ministry of Justice. In April this year, Al Rayyan Municipality recorded the highest number of mortgage transactions with 37 transactions, equivalent to 32.5 percent of the total number of mortgaged properties. This was followed by Al Doha with 35 transactions equivalent to 30.7 percent and Al Doha Municipality with 35 transactions representing 30.7 percent of the total. And then both Al Warkah and Umm Salal municipalities with 15 transactions each 13.2 percent of the total mortgaged properties. Regarding the value of mortgages in May 2025, Doha Municipality comes first with amount of QR3.080bn while Al Khor and Al Dhakira Municipality registered the lowest value which reached QR12.647m and QR233m respectively. The real estate trading data during the month shows that the real estate sector continues its steady growth strongly in various investment and commercial fields, thus continuing the active trading movement witnessed by the sector during the recent period, especially with the issuance of new laws and decisions related to real estate brokerage, real estate registration and documentation, ownership and usufruct, in addition to laws attracting local and foreign capital. This data also confirms the strength and solidity of the foundations of the Qatari economy and the continued growth of the real estate sector as one of its main components. Considering the indicator of movement of mortgage transactions by studying the ratio of the number of mortgaged properties to the ratio of their financial value, the data revealed the ratio of the number of mortgaged properties is greater than the ratio of the amounts of mortgage transactions in all municipalities that witnessed mortgage transactions, except for Doha and Al Wakrah municipalities It was also revealed that the amounts of mortgage transactions achieved a higher rate compared to the number of mortgage transactions. A quick glance and tracking the movement and volume of mortgage transactions that were processed during May this year it was found that Doha Municipality registered five mortgaged properties while Al Rayyan one property. The volume of mortgage transactions for the top ten properties reached 86 percent of the total value of the mortgage transactions that were processed during May this year. Meanwhile, during May this year the trading movement in the residential units witnessed 213 deals with a total value of QR454.693m. Jean-Charles Castelletto close to leaving Nantes for Al-Wakrah
Jean-Charles Castelletto (30) is close to a departure from FC Nantes this summer, with two clubs in Middle Eastern clubs interested in taking the Cameroon international from the North of France, as per information from L'Équipe. Qatar's Al-Wakrah are reportedly in pole position with talks centring around a €3.5m transfer fee, and a four-year contract for the centre-back. However, the UAE-based Al Jazira are also interested in securing Castelletto's services. Advertisement Castelletto has spent the past five years with Les Canaris having originally joined the club in 2020 from Stade Brestois. During this time, the centre-back became a Coupe de France winner, helping Nantes to the title in the 2021/22 season. Qatar recorded $116m of real estate transactions in a week
The volume of Qatar real estate trading in sales contracts registered with the Real Estate Registration Department at the Ministry of Justice during the period from June 15 to 19 amounted to QR423,674,670 ($116.3m). The total sales contracts for the real estate bulletin for residential units during the same period reached amounted to QR 59,529,651 ($16.3m). The weekly bulletin issued by the Department shows that the list of properties traded for sale included: Vacant lands Residential homes Apartment buildings Commercial buildings Shops Residential units Qatar real estate sales The sales operations were concentrated in the municipalities of Al Rayyan, Doha, Al Wakrah, Umm Salal, Al Khor and Al Dhakira, Al Dhaayen, and Al Shama l in addition to the areas of the Pearl, Lusail 69, and Ghar Thuaileb.

Qatar: Pilot project to transform mosques into green buildings launched
Doha, Qatar: In a pioneering step toward environmental sustainability, Al Wakrah Municipality has launched a project to convert one of its mosques into a green, sustainable building. The initiative, carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, is part of the broader campaign titled 'Al Wakrah on the Path to Carbon Neutrality.' The project aims to enhance the operational efficiency of mosques while significantly reducing carbon emissions. This will be achieved by integrating renewable energy sources and adhering to the Gulf Building Code's sustainability standards—all without compromising the comfort and spiritual ambiance for worshippers. The launch was marked by a coordination meeting chaired by Director of Al Wakrah Municipality Jaber Hassan Al Jaber. The meeting brought together representatives from the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Earthna - Center for a Sustainable Future, and Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa). A joint task force, led by the municipality, has been established to oversee the project's implementation. A clear execution timeline has been drawn up, and results from this pilot phase will be announced at a future press conference. If successful, the initiative is expected to expand to other mosques across the country. Doha: The volume of real estate trading in sales contracts registered with the Real Estate Registration Department at the Ministry of Justice during the period from June 1 to 5 amounted to QR911,760,894, while the total sales contracts for the real estate bulletin for residential units during the same period reached amounted to QR99,348,178, bringing the total to over QR1bn. The weekly bulletin issued by the Department shows that the list of properties traded for sale included vacant lands, residential homes, apartment buildings, commercial buildings, shops and residential units. The sales operations were concentrated in the municipalities of Doha, Al Rayyan, Al Wakrah, Al Dhaayen, Umm Salal, Al Khor and Al Dhakira, Al Shamal, and Al Shahania in addition to the areas of the Pearl, Lusail 69, Ghar Thuaileb, and Legtaifiya.
