Alabama lands commitment from local standout, 2026 in-state linebacker

On Friday night, the Alabama Crimson Tide landed a commitment from a local product, as in-state standout Zay Hall announced that he had committed to the program. Hall is the sixth different player to commit to Alabama so far this week, as well as the third within the past two days alongside the four-star duo of Ezavier Crowell and Mack Sutter. At the moment, Hall is currently considered as the nation's No. 1,148 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. A three-star prospect, Hall is also ranked as the nation's No. 127 overall linebacker, as well as the No. 55 player in the state of Alabama where he attends Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa. The three-star prospect is the first linebacker commit in Alabama's class, as well as the fourth from in-state where he is joined by the aforementioned Crowell (Jackson), Zyan Gibson (Gadsden City), and Kamhariyan Johnson (Muscle Shoals). Alabama's class has now cracked the Top 10 of the 247Sports Team Rankings as well, sitting at No. 10 with a total of 13 commitments. The Alabama Crimson Tide will be the best team to play with when EA Sports' College Football 26 is released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S gaming consoles in July. The video game franchise, now in its second year after its extremely successful relaunch last summer, unveiled its individual team ratings on Friday as more details about this year's game trickle in closer to its release date. Longhorns have No. 1 offense, No. 2 defense & No. 2 overall in new EA College Football 26

In less than two weeks EA College Football 26 will be released. At launch, the Texas Longhorns will be ranked high on both sides of the ball and overall. UT will have the No. 1 ranked offenses and No. 2 defense in the game. The Horns are ranked No. 2 overall behind the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Texas offense has a rating of 91, which is tied with Penn State, Ohio State and Arizona State. But the Longhorns have a slight edge and claim the No. 1 ranking. There are nine SEC teams in the top 25 offense in the video game. Advertisement The Texas offense will feature Arch Manning at quarterback, Quintrevion Wisner and CJ Baxter at running back and Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore at wide receiver. On defense, UT is ranked second behind Alabama. Texas has a defensive rating of 94, behind 'Bama's 96. Penn State, Georgia and Ohio State fill out the top five. There are ten SEC teams in the top 25 defenses in the game. The Horns defense will feature Anthony Hill, Colin Simmons and Michael Taaffe leading the charge. EA has ranked Alabama the overall No. 1 team despite having the seventh ranked offense to go with the Tide's No. 1 defense. The SEC has 12 teams in the overall Top 25, almost half of the ranking. Texas is heavily featured in the game's trailer. The video showcases Texas coach Steve Sarkisian and quarterback Arch Manning. The video also shows off the Longhorns running onto the field at Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium and the drone show Texas produces for night games. The game also shows off a couple of Longhorns plays. This year, schools are getting paid differently than in the past. The University of Texas will be paid based on how many users play EA College Football 26 using the Longhorns. The "play-for-pay" model is a change on the way the video company pays for Name Image Likeness (NIL) rights to participating schools. So the more you play using Texas as your team, the more money the program gets. Advertisement The game is set for a worldwide release on July 10. Follow us on X (formerly Twitter) at @LonghornsWire. Milwaukee Bucks And Mark Sears Are A Great Pairing

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 30: Mark Sears #1 of the Alabama Crimson Tide celebrates after a ... More three point basket during the second half against the Clemson Tigers in the Elite 8 round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament at Arena on March 30, 2024 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by) The Milwaukee Bucks wasted no time after the 2025 NBA Draft wrapped up Thursday night, quickly scooping up Alabama guard Mark Sears on a two-way deal. Earlier in the night, the Bucks used their lone draft pick on Serbian big man Bogoljub Markovic at No. 47 overall—a high-upside swing that's more long game than immediate help, as Markovic will remain overseas next season. That makes Sears the real rookie prize heading into 2025-26. Soon, Milwaukee won't have a healthy point guard under contract. Damian Lillard is rehabbing a torn Achilles that's expected to sideline him for most (if not all) of next year. Kevin Porter Jr. is likely opting out of his player option, and Ryan Rollins is a restricted free agent. Even if they manage to bring back both Porter Jr. and Rollins, adding Sears gives the Bucks a reliable fallback plan. He may be on a two-way contract, but we've seen the Bucks turn those into real opportunities in the very recent past. Sears is no rookie to big moments—he played five seasons of college ball, the first two at Ohio and the last three at Alabama. He was a consensus All-American in both of the last two years and averaged 18.6 points, 5.1 assists, and 2.9 rebounds as a super senior. Transitioning to the pros should come fairly smooth for him. He already ran an NBA-style offense at Alabama and thrived in it. The biggest knock on his game is his size. Sears stands 6-foot-1, 183 pounds, and never bulked up much during his college run. But he makes up for it with a sharp basketball IQ, tight handles, and elite footwork. He's crafty with the ball, knows how to slice through defenses, and can get to his spots with ease. His elite ball-handling skills allow him to get to anywhere on the court he wants. This gives him an advantage to slice up the defense for his own buckets or create open looks for his teammates. What really sets him apart is his jumper. He's most dangerous off the catch, which could pair beautifully next to Giannis Antetokounmpo, drawing defenders in and kicking it out to Sears for open threes. Defensively, he's not going to lock guys down, but he's no slouch either. He competes, slides his feet reasonably well, and has quick hands that help rack up steals. His effort level will be key on that end of the floor. Milwaukee needed another ball-handler heading into a pivotal offseason, and Sears fits the bill. While Markovic is a long-term investment, Sears has a shot to make noise in Year 1. If he shines during Summer League and camp, that two-way deal could turn into something more permanent before long. For the Bucks and Sears, this feels like a natural pairing—a win-win with room to grow.

Alabama Loses Out on Top 2026 Recruit

Alabama Loses Out on Top 2026 Recruit originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Alabama Crimson Tide football program is off to a strong start this week regarding the 2026 recruiting class. However, the optimal word remains solid, and not perfect, after one top recruit snuck away from them on Monday. Advertisement According to Minnesota Star Tribune writer Randy Johnson, four-star 2026 tight end recruit Roman Voss has verbally committed to the Minnesota Gophers. Voss entered the week with just two official visits in the books, having visited Minnesota in May and Alabama earlier this month. With zero tight-end recruits verbally committing to Alabama for the 2026 class, Voss' decision marks a tough blow for head coach Kalen DeBoer's recruiting efforts. Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer Gary Cosby Jr.-Imagn Images Voss is not the only recruit on Monday to pass on Alabama and pick another school. Another four-star tight end, Xavier Tiller, picked the Florida State Seminoles over the Tide. Meanwhile, four-star edge rusher Khamari Brooks verbally committed to the Georgia Bulldogs on Monday, with Alabama as a finalist. Advertisement Conversely, it has been a solid day for Alabama in terms of hard commitments. Four-star running back Javari Barnett became the first rusher to pledge his allegiance to DeBoer and his staff after flipping his commitment from the Illinois Fighting Illini to Alabama. Safety Rihyael Kelley also flipped his commitment on Monday, opting for Alabama over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. Alabama is up to ten hard commits for the 2028 class. 247Sports ranks the recruiting group as the 28th best class in the country, with five-star corner Jorden Edmonds headlining the group of soon-to-be high school seniors.
