Alam Flora promotes reusable bags at Temerloh Sunday market

TEMERLOH: Alam Flora Sdn Bhd launched its 'Bring Your Own Reusable Bag' campaign at Pekan Sehari Temerloh, distributing 300 reusable bags to visitors. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the environmental harm caused by single-use plastics. Alam Flora chief operating officer Mohamad Muhazni Mukhtar said the campaign highlights the long decomposition period of plastic bags and encourages sustainable alternatives. 'We want to promote consistent use of reusable bags to help preserve the environment,' he said during the launch at the morning market. The campaign follows a similar effort during the Ramadan Festival in Putrajaya. Pekan Sehari Temerloh was chosen due to its recognition by the Malaysia Book of Records as the country's longest Sunday market, spanning 2.1 kilometres. Mohamad Muhazni added that the programme, organised with various agencies, focuses on awareness rather than profit. 'We must engage consumers directly to drive behavioural change,' he said. Temerloh Municipal Council president Rizal Mustafa expressed full support for the initiative. 'We welcome programmes that positively impact the public and the environment,' he said. - Bernama

Alam Flora launches reusable bag campaign in Temerloh

TEMERLOH: A total of 300 reusable bags were distributed by Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (Alam Flora) to visitors of the Pekan Sehari Temerloh here today in conjunction with the 'Bring Your Own Reusable Bag' Campaign. Alam Flora chief operating officer Mohamad Muhazni Mukhtar said the campaign was aimed at raising public awareness of the negative impact of using plastic bags on the environment, including pollution and the destruction of ecosystems. "We want to promote the use of reusable bags among the public because single-use plastic bags take a very long time to decompose. "This initiative is aimed at raising awareness and, in the long term, encouraging consistent use to help preserve the environment," he told reporters after launching the campaign at the morning market. The Bring Your Own Reusable Bag Campaign is a continuation of an initiative previously carried out by Alam Flora during the Ramadan Festival in Putrajaya. Mohamad Muhazni said Pekan Sehari Temerloh was chosen as the campaign venue in view of its recognition by the Malaysia Book of Records as the largest and longest Sunday market in the country, stretching 2.1km. "This programme, organised in collaboration with various agencies, is not profit-oriented but more about creating awareness. "It must also be aligned with the target market segment, and we need to reach out to consumers rather than wait for them to come to us," he said. Meanwhile, Temerloh Municipal Council president Rizal Mustafa said the council welcomed and fully supported the campaign. "I fully support initiatives like this, and we will support any programme that directly impacts the public," he said. – Bernama

19-year-old Malaysian takes pride in Alam Flora drain cleaner job, netizens moved

A young man's job of being a drain cleaner in Alam Flora has reminded many to never judge a book by its cover. At just 19 years old, Muhammad Zamri Zaidi Nizam has become an unexpected inspiration on social media for his pride and positivity in working as a drain cleaner. Employed by Alam Flora Sdn Bhd, Zamri's candid reflections on his job — shared through the company's official TikTok page — have struck a chord with many Malaysians. 'We cannot judge a job based on one perspective only. We have to try working there first to truly understand what it feels like. 'We should not do something based on what others say. We do it for ourselves. If they feel that young people should not do these things, I will prove to them that I can,' said the young worker in the video. Zamri said he began working as a drain cleaner in June 2024, following the advice of his father, who also works at Alam Flora as a driver. He added that he had no specific plans for work or higher education at the time he finished his Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM). Recalling his early days on the job, Zamri said he initially felt intimidated by how fast his colleagues worked. As a new hire, he was only assigned basic tasks such as opening slabs, before eventually being allowed to enter the drains. Regarding acceptance, Zamri said his family fully supports his current job. 'With my family, it's okay because it's still work, and as long as it is halal (permissible),' he said. However, his friends were shocked by his choice of work, questioning why he had chosen it – but Zamri does not let their opinions affect him. 'Even though the workload is heavy, it's still manageable. And another thing – thank God –, the work helps me stay fit and my body feels light after clocking out because I get to do a lot of physical activity,' he added. Netizens were touched by the 19-year-old's positivity and determination in taking pride in a job that many would overlook. Others also praised Zamri's communication skills, noting how eloquently he spoke, and encouraged him to realise his full potential by furthering his studies. 'Why should you feel ashamed? I always tell my children that people who work in jobs like construction or the service industry are amazing – because without them, no one else would be able to do it,' one user commented.

200 join ‘Jom Plogging - Saya Sayang Bumi'

KUANTAN: A total of 200 participants took part in the 'Jom Plogging - Saya Sayang Bumi' programme organised by Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (Alam Flora) at Pantai Cherok Paloh, aimed at fostering a love for the environment. Alam Flora chief operating officer, Mohamad Muhazni Mukhtar, said the initiative sought to raise awareness across all segments of society about the harmful effects of littering on marine habitats and the natural ecosystem. 'We chose this location as we have already carried out clean-up efforts at several beaches including Pantai Sepat, Pantai Cempaka, and Pantai Tanjung Gosong. With Pantai Cherok Paloh gaining popularity and attracting more visitors, we were compelled to extend our efforts here,' he told reporters here today. Participants included local residents, representatives from the Lion Group, Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), and scouts from nearby schools. As part of the event, Alam Flora also led the planting of 150 saplings along the coastline to support reforestation and coastal restoration efforts. Mohamad Muhazni emphasised that maintaining the cleanliness of tourist areas requires active participation from the public, not just the authorities. Kuantan City Council secretary, Mohd Nizam Mahayuddin, echoed this view and encouraged the community to carry rubbish tongs and bags when visiting beaches and other tourist spots. 'If everyone adopts what we practised today, cleaning as we go, God willing, we can significantly reduce the litter problem, even if we can't eliminate it entirely,' he said. He also expressed appreciation for the contribution of 150 saplings from the Pahang Forestry Department and thanked Alam Flora for its ongoing dedication to environmental conservation.
