South Auckland storm repairs almost complete

Road damage repairs from extreme weather events almost two years ago is almost complete in south Auckland. In 2023, heavy rain on Auckland's Anniversary Day weekend and Cyclone Gabrielle caused severe flooding, and more than 2000 slips were reported to Auckland Transport on local roads, across the region. In the south, 30 complex slips needed repairing: nine minor (less than $250,000 to repair) and 21 major (more than $250,000 to repair). In a statement, Auckland Transport (AT) said their flood recovery team has repaired 83% of the slips. AT road asset maintenance and renewals general manager Alan Wallace said 25 slips have been fixed, and three more will be repaired in the second half of the year. ADVERTISEMENT These are Ararimu Rd, Cemetery Rd, and East Coast Rd. 'Last month, we completed the repairs to the second slip site on Kemp Road in Āwhitu, and Urquhart Road in Karaka – both substantial slips which closed the road," he said. Wallace said work involved the installation of a soil nail retaining wall and drainage improvements. Work to repair two slips on Kemp Rd began in February; the first involved building a timber retaining wall and repairs to the road surface, he said. The second involved installing a soil nail retaining wall and drainage improvements. Construction to re-establish the connection on Urquhart Rd began in April 2025, and was completed last month. He said work included the installation of new drainage across the road and the construction of a mechanically stabilised earth (MSE) wall to mitigate the slip. ADVERTISEMENT By the end of May 2025, 56% of minor slips, and all but one major slip in the south had been repaired. Only one major slip, Manukau Heads Rd, is still currently under construction. Construction teams have continued work on the general fill of the Manukau Heads site, switching to the use of crushed concrete because of the wet ground conditions. New rock armour on the face of the MSE wall now protects the road from further erosion. AT said the head of the slip has been trimmed back and was ready to be planted. "One of the two large stormwater pipes that will protect the road from flooding in the future has been installed." Since the 2023 weather damage, AT has fixed 1200 small slips across the region, but more than 800 bigger slips have required extensive investigation to inform sustainable and resilient engineering design solutions. EXCLUSIVE MAFS stars reunite! Dave joins Rhi and Jeff at birthday bash for Love Triangle's Alan Wallace at glitzy Zekkai rooftop launch

It was reality TV meets rooftop chic as some of Australia's popular reality TV stars gathered to toast Love Triangle's Alan Wallace's birthday in serious style. The intimate but star-studded celebration took place at Melbourne 's newly opened hotspot, Zekkai – a penthouse restaurant, cocktail bar and nightclub offering sweeping city views, top-tier drinks and luxe vibes. Leading the guest list was Married At First Sight's Dave Hand, who reunited with co-stars Rhi Disljenkovic and Jeff Gobbels, delighting fans with a surprise mini MAFS reunion. Rhi stunned in a silky beige utility-style jumpsuit with a cinched waist and oversized collar, pairing the look with a high ponytail and glowy glam makeup. Standing beside her, Jeff cut a suave figure in a structured black coat and matching ensemble, with the duo looking every inch the fashionable power pair as they posed inside the venue. Meanwhile, the birthday boy himself, Alan Wallace, brought the style in a sage green suit layered over a white tank, holding a martini glass and showing off his bold chest tattoo. He was joined by fellow Love Triangle star Yannick Samarasinghe, who made a statement in a sheer crochet shirt worn open to reveal his toned physique and trademark afro. Also in attendance was Love Island Australia's Zac Nunns, who sported a fitted black tee and white pants, adding some extra muscle and beachy charm to the boys' club. David, known for his signature ink and laid-back charisma, rocked a relaxed look featuring khaki pants, a beige hoodie draped over his shoulders, and a white graphic tee. The four men looked right at home in front of the event's branded backdrop, arms slung around one another in celebration. Alan rose to fame after appearing on season two of Stan's explosive dating series Love Triangle. Known for his tattooed, tough-guy exterior, Alan quickly became one of the show's most talked-about figures. But behind the bold image was a man eager to set the record straight. During his time on Love Triangle, he spoke candidly about the frustration of being labelled a 'f***boy' based purely on his looks, insisting it couldn't be further from the truth. Rhi and Jeff meanwhile have quietly defied the odds – emerging as the golden couple standing from this year's experiment. While other relationships crumbled under pressure both on and off-screen, the fan-favourite duo have continued to grow stronger post-show. Rhi and Jeff are still very much together and taking things at their own pace, away from the cameras. 'They've kept it low-key but are really solid,' one insider told Daily Mail Australia. 'Out of all the couples, they're the only ones who've made it work.'
