7 Unexpected Ways to Style Ballet Flats for Summer
To understand the history of the ballet flat, one need only consider the name: the shoe was created for ballet. As early as the 16th century, dancers wore them on stage. Rose Repetto (yes, that Repetto) famously designed a pair for her son, the dancer Roland Petit, before ushering them out of the theatre and into the mainstream. Vogue's Favorite Ballet Flats: With such storied origins, ballet flats are hardly new—but they are undeniably having a moment. Their recent resurgence is largely credited to Alaïa designer Pieter Mulier, whose studded Mary Jane from 2022 flew off shelves. Since then, nearly every brand, from high end to high street, has put its spin on the silhouette. And honestly, we can't get enough of them. There's a reason ballet flats have stood the test of time. Chic, simple, and easy to wear, they're an effortlessly elegant choice for everyday—especially in warmer months. When open toes won't do and a heel feels fussy (which is, let's face it, most of the time), ballet flats strike the perfect polished, and with the right styling, never too prim. They also pair effortlessly with some of our favorite summer pieces—from slouchy drawstring pants to sequin skirts. Ahead, our summer styling guide shows you exactly how to wear them now. The Raffia Flat With a Coordinating Skirt Set The newest version of the aforementioned Alaïa flat appears here, this time in raffia, alongside a pleated skirt set for a texture-forward yet understated look. The Satin Square-Toe With a Barely-There Cami and Floral Midi Gucci's pale green ballet flats are so unexpected that they'll pair well with just about anything. Here we've chosen a sheer floral Prada skirt and a simple white tank top, plus a wristlet clutch. The Woven Style With an Oversized Shirt and Linen Short A boxy pastel shirt and linen shorts make for a breezy off-duty uniform–perfectly polished even on the warmest of days. Raffia flats and a nautical Bottega tote are the perfect companions. The Minimalist Ballerina With a Simple, Strappy Maxi For the ultimate minimalist, this black structured slip and white ballet flat pairing is excessively sleek. Reformation's oversized raffia tote adds a hint texture to bring the look home. The Soft Ballet Flat With a Tonal Ensemble We love an all-white look on a hot summer day. The Row's elegant soft ballet flats in a rich brown keep the look from feeling too casual—and too monochromatic. The Embroidered Mesh Flat With a Lace-Trim Slip Contrast feminine elements, like a lacy slip dress and embroidered ballerinas, with an oversized boyish button-up for a well-balanced look. The Jelly Flat With a Red Hot Mini A red mini slip and bright blue jelly flats make for a playful, color-blocked summer look. Shop more ballet flats:

There's A White Cotton Summer Dress For Everyone – Here Are 5 Of The Best Styles To Buy Now
In 2024 we had Brat Summer: this year, it's the season of the white cotton summer dress. It's not as catchy, sure, but it's also considerably less sweaty. From minimal maxis to crisp poplin shirt dresses, the white cotton dress is the sartorial equivalent of air conditioning – a welcome respite from the cling of acrylic. (As the owner of one too many vintage nylon dresses, I am speaking from experience.) If the SS25 catwalks were anything to go by, designers are in agreement. Most ubiquitous was the white cotton shirt dress, which manifested in mini, midi and maxi forms at Alaïa, Bottega Veneta, and Erdem, respectively. More classic iterations made way for styles with a difference – a flounced hem, split sleeves, or statement cuffs, as seen on Elle Fanning at Cannes last month. The minimal maxi is another sound option for the white summer dress purists among you – it bears no unnecessary decoration, only exaggerated proportions and one or two interesting details. See Brioni's totally perfect, tent-like T-shirt dress or Khaite's very compelling tunic, which appeared on the runway layered atop a pair of silk trousers. For something with a little more romance, we present the white cotton nightie dress – the more demure cousin of the slinky slip. See Bella Hadid's collab with Frankie's bikini, or Harling Ross's collection with If Only If. Equally lovely would be a Broderie Anglaise dress, as seen at 3.1 Phillip Lim, or something with lace cutwork, as at Tove. And if you're not totally ready to relinquish Brat Summer, may we suggest a bubble hem. Alberta Ferretti and Carven proved that the white cotton summer dress can be all sorts of fun via the gathered-hem dresses they showed for SS25. Ready to slip into something a little more comfortable? Here is our edit of the best white cotton summer dresses. Easy, breezy, and not a bead of sweat in sight. Bristol-based vintage seller DuLievre's edit of antique French cotton dresses is unrivalled, while Smock London, Faune and If Only If all make modern iterations. Wear yours with a pair of block-colour ballet flats, chunky silver jewellery, and a basket bag. You can't go wrong with a crisp cotton-poplin shirt dress. Follow the simple but effective styling at Simkhai and style a sweeping maxi with a skinny black belt or do like Alaïa's Pieter Mulier, who dressed up flouncy mini dresses with strappy mules and layered necklaces. The minimal maxi's allure lies in an interesting silhouette – something with oversized proportions or an open back or split sleeves, for example. You'd be forgiven for mistaking styles by Arket for The Row and Khaite, especially when paired with leather flip flops and a single cuff. Spend all of summer in Broderie Anglaise, either in the form of a demure midi dress (with scarlet ballet flats) or something flirtier and thigh-grazing (with Nineties-inspired mules). A white lace dress will do nicely, too. Play with opacity by layering a coloured slip beneath – or, more daringly, not at all. Another bubble-hem summer is upon us, and we're not complaining; this playful detail makes the simplest of white cotton dresses that much more fun. Team Free People's white cotton mini with sleek flip flops and sea-salt hair, or try Cos's midi with jelly shoes and a beaded necklace. What The Cool Girls Are Wearing To Wimbledon 2025: The Dress Code Explained And 10 Outfit Ideas
With the Wimbledon Tennis Championships beginning on Monday 30 June, anticipation is mounting as Carlos Alcaraz eyes up a third consecutive victory, and young British hopefuls Jack Draper and Emma Raducanu return to compete on home turf. But beyond the drama on the court, Wimbledon has established itself alongside Ascot as one of sport's most stylish events, drawing (almost) as much attention for its outfits as the match results. The tradition of Wimbledon Whites sees many guests opt for crisp linen suits and tennis-inspired pleated skirts and V-necks, with the event's signature green and purple shades also popular. This year, attendees may also nod to 20 years of Ralph Lauren's partnership with the Championship and choose preppy pieces from its mainline and Polo collection. If you're in need of some outfit inspiration, look to fashion's best dressed guests. A Wimbledon regular, resident Cool Girl Alexa Chung never gets it wrong, whether choosing mannish tailoring in a white shorts suit or a khaki cotton blouse and mid-blue jeans, or a beige cable knit cardigan and cream A-line skirt. Pinstripes are a mainstay, with Poppy Delevingne wearing a cream pinstripe blazer, wide-leg trousers and shirt as a guest of Ralph Lauren last summer, while Sienna Miller chose a sky blue belted tailored linen suit also by the brand in 2023. Model Mimi Labouchere teamed a blue and white pinstripe shirt dress with a cream knit and top-handle handbag to attend the event last year. Ever ahead of the curve, Jourdann Dunn looked radiant in a butter yellow cable knit jumper and satin skirt to attend Wimbledon in 2023, with Lila Moss equally resplendent in a floor-length powder blue slip dress. Making an unexpected cameo last summer, Margot Robbie stunned in an asymmetric Alaïa white and black polka dot stretch midi dress complete with matching Le Teckel shoulder bag and black leather peep toe heels. The ever chic Keira Knightley chose monochrome Chanel in a white cotton one-shouldered layered dress with bow detail, worn with a boater hat, slingbacks and quilted handbag, all from the brand. Lean into boyish style like models Constance Jablonski and Edie Campbell, who respectively chose an oversized double breasted jacket, white denim and loafers and a taupe trouser suit worn over a white tee when attending as guests last year. Green remains a favourite shade, with Amelia Windsor pairing a shirt dress with a khaki trench coat and Aspinal Mayfair bag while Ikram Abdi Omar referenced the traditions of Wimbledon in green and white striped shirt and trousers with a navy blazer and white court shoes. If you're feeling overwhelmed, follow the example of Shalom Brune-Franklin and Ella Richards and choose perennially stylish navy worn top to toe. The actor and model each chose long line cotton dresses with coordinating cable knit jumpers to attend Wimbledon last year. The shade is easily accessorised with black, cream, metallic or tan and monochromatic pieces can be effortlessly reworked for other summer occasions or a workwear wardrobe. With so many avenues to pursue, are there any rules to consider when attending Wimbledon? While players must wear all-white, there is no official dress code for spectators and guests, but some items are not allowed: torn jeans, running vests, sport shorts and dirty trainers. Bags must not exceed 40cm x 30cm x 30cm in size and are limited to one per person. Guests may not wear clothing bearing political statements, offensive language or large designer logos. Oversized hats are not allowed to prevent obscuring other guests' views. In general, the dress code is smart daywear, particularly if you'll be watching from Centre Court or Court Number One. If you're watching from the Royal Box, men should wear a jacket and tie, while women are asked to dress in below-the-knee dresses, ankle-length jumpsuits or trouser suits. Yes, denim is allowed, though without any rips or tears. In order to meet the smart daywear recommendation, opt for a darker wash and a more fitted silhouette. Trainers, flats and heels are all permitted, though trainers and sneakers must be clean and presentable. Heels of any height may be worn, though if you're queuing for a ticket, observing from Murray Mound or planning to explore the grounds, opt for a flat, wedge, small kitten heel or block heel for comfort. Gain the advantage as Wimbledon's best dressed and see our Cool Girl guide to outfits below. Wimbledon begins on Monday 30 June with the Ladies' Singles Final on Saturday 12 July and the Men's Singles Final on Sunday 13 July. While the Wimbledon Public Ballot is now closed, anyone can queue each day for a Show Court or Grounds ticket sold on a best available, one per person, non-transferable basis. See the official Wimbledon site for details. Hospitality packages are available via Seat Unique and Keith Prowse. ELLE Collective is a new community of fashion, beauty and culture lovers. Call It CEO Pink: This Muted, Dusty Shade Means Power in the Office
When Palm Beach native McKenna Phillips moved to Manhattan in 2019, she seemed to develop 'an allergic reaction' to wearing color, she said. Phillips, a 29-year-old hospitality manager, even earned Instagram clout for documenting her tough, all-black outfits. But lately, Phillips says she's found similar strength in a particular shade of pink. Meet the new power neutral—a muted, slightly dusty pale pink. It's as if the quiet-luxury beiges of recent seasons have been washed in rosé. Gone are any associations with Barbie, Pepto-Bismol and frilly baby showers. 'This pink emphasizes the power of sharp tailoring, without sacrificing any minimalism,' said Phillips, who credits the brands Khaite and Alaïa for turning her on to the shade.
