Severe thunderstorms possible in and around Calgary Thursday

More moderate temperatures are expected for portions of central and southern Alberta on Thursday, while the southeast corner of the province is expecting one more day of unusually warm temperatures. A heat warning was issued for most of east-central and southeastern Alberta on Wednesday, including Calgary, Red Deer and Edmonton. Those warnings have been lifted for the QEII corridor Thursday due to cooler temperatures expected, but continued for southeastern Alberta with daytime highs expected to reach the low 30s. Calgary weather forecast for Thursday, July 3, 2025 Heat warnings (pink) issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada on Thursday, July 3, 2025. As expected, thunderstorms developed in central and southern Alberta on Wednesday with some cells rapidly intensifying into supercells. There is a risk of severe thunderstorm activity across central and southern Alberta again on Thursday, with the moderate risk zone extending into Calgary. If these storms do develop, the greatest threats include strong wind and large-sized hail. Calgary weather forecast for Thursday, July 3, 2025 More seasonal temperatures are expected over the next few days – with daytime highs ranging from 20 C to 23 C from Thursday until Sunday. The forecast for the Calgary Stampede parade should be pleasant, with a mix of sun and cloud and morning temperatures around 11 to 17 C. More showers and thunderstorms are possible across southern Alberta on Saturday and Sunday, with heavier rainfall likely along the southern border.

Overnight rains lowers fire danger risk in central Alberta

Steady precipitation fell over portions of southern British Columbia and central Alberta overnight and early Thursday, briefly prompting a special weather statement for some higher elevation highways in the B.C. interior. The good news is that rain helped to rapidly lower the fire danger risk for areas along the northern foothills and central Alberta, with some areas reporting a low risk as of 7 a.m. Thursday compared to a very high or extreme risk Wednesday. Overnight rains lowers fire danger risk in central Alberta The bad news is that not all areas in central and southern Alberta are expecting rain Thursday, so many communities remain under those higher risk assessments. Warmer weather coming in behind that trailing cold front will push temperatures back up for the end of the week and the start of the weekend in southern Alberta, with a quick change likely to initiate late Sunday. Overnight rains lowers fire danger risk in central Alberta A deep and narrow trough is expecting to set up along the Pacific coast over the weekend, providing enhanced support for heavy precipitation in the exit region in southern B.C. and southwestern Alberta. Overnight rains lowers fire danger risk in central Alberta In Calgary, rain is likely to start late Sunday with the potential for 15 to 20 millimetres on Monday alone. Temperatures will also drop about eight degrees from Sunday to Monday, before a gradual recovery back to seasonal temperatures throughout next week.
