Getting caught up on Central Indiana high school football commitments, recruitments to watch
Expect an on-rush of football commitments over the coming weeks as college programs look to get a handle on the 2026 class. A few recent commitments from Central Indiana players in the rising senior class: ∎ Kaiden Bower, Carmel: The 6-3, 250-pound defensive end committed to Charlotte over offers from Air Force, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Miami (Ohio) Toledo and Troy. Bower finished last season with 55 tackles (24 solo), 4 ½ sacks, 6 ½ tackles for loss, and seven quarterback hurries. Bower, a three-star prospect, is one of 10 commits in Charlotte's current class for new coach Tim Albin. The 49ers were 5-7 last season. 'Finding the right program and school is so important,' Bower said. 'I visited a lot of schools so I could make the best-informed decision. From the moment I walked onto Charlotte's campus it really felt like home. The coaches and the recruiting staff were fantastic. The practice I watched was very fast paced and aggressive. The coaches pushed the players on each rep and were focused on player development, which is very important to me. You can tell Coach Albin has a clear vision and is building a strong program. The strength coach was really energetic and was pushing development in the weight room too. You could tell that there is a very high standard being set. The campus is really amazing, and the university has a great business school. Charlotte has all the resources that I need to succeed on the football field, in the classroom and at life.' ∎ C.J Scifres, Center Grove: Scifres posted his decision on social media after taking an official visit over the weekend. The 6-6, 325-pound offensive lineman is a three-star recruit, per 247Sports, and not rated by On3. Scifres was named to the IFCA's Top 50 All-State team as a junior as he did not allow a sack all season for a team that threw for more than 3,000 yards and won a Class 6A regional. ∎ Job Mavrick, Westfield: The 6-2, 280-pound offensive lineman, who transferred from Culver Academy to Westfield prior to his junior year, committed to Ohio over offers from Cornell, Mercyhurst and Western Illinois. Ohio won at least 10 games and played in a bowl game each of the past three seasons under Albin. ∎ Avin Robinson, Brownsburg: The 6-foot, 180-pound wide receiver committed to Central Michigan over and offer from Kent State. Robinson caught 41 passes for 933 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior on Brownsburg's Class 6A state championship team. ∎ William Johnson III, Avon: The 6-4, 270-pound Williams committed to Kent State over offers from Akron, Central Michigan, Fordham, Illinois State, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan and UMass. Also, Bloomington South receiver Jalen Williams committed to South Florida. The 6-5 Williams caught 21 passes for 370 yards and six TDs as a junior at Bloomington North. ∎ Heritage Hills duo: Two of the state's top recruits play for Heritage Hills, the defending Class 3A state champion (will play in 4A the next two-year cycle). Tight end Tyler Ruxer, rated as the No. 1 prospect in the state by On3sports, plans to make his announcement on July 7 at the Heritage Hills Auditorium. His teammate, quarterback/athlete Jett Goldsberry, also a top 10 in-state prospect, will also make his announcement on July 7. Ruxer has taken official visits to Duke, Northwestern and Oklahoma with Minnesota planned for this weekend. He also has Purdue and West Virginia in the mix. Goldsberry, likely one of the favorites for Mr. Football going into the season, has an official visit scheduled for Ole Miss this weekend. He also has taken official visits to Purdue and Rutgers and is visiting North Carolina (official visit June 21-22), Wake Forest (official visit June 19-20) and West Virginia (official visit June 17-18). ∎ Jerimy Finch Jr.: Warren Central defensive end Jerimy Finch Jr. is closing in on a decision. Finch has taken official visits to Purdue, Alabama and Michigan. He has an official visit scheduled to Tennessee this weekend and Miami (Fla.) the weekend of June 20. ∎ Dominick Barry: Center Grove tight end Dominick Barry has an official visit set to Wake Forest the weekend of June 20. Barry caught 31 passes for 237 yards and five touchdowns as a junior.

Charlotte Football Preview 2025: New Coaches, New Look, New Hope for the 49ers
It was an interesting idea that didn't work. Now Charlotte is going the more conventional Poggi went from being a key assistant at Michigan to the Charlotte head coach in 2023, but the former hedge-fund manager didn't have a whole lot of luck getting the 49ers going - they won the last two games after he left - going 6-16 in his two has just one winning season in its ten years as an FBS program, and now it's up to Tim Albin to make the program a winner. A long-time assistant under Frank Solich at Ohio, Albin - who also won an NAIA National Championship at Northwestern Oklahoma State in 1999 - took over the reins in 2021, had a rough first year, and then went 30-10 with two bowl wins and a MAC is still a young Charlotte program. It has plenty of positives, but this is a total building job - it's not even a rebuild - with almost no returning talent, a new staff, and …Hope. Albin is a good one. It might take a bit, but the 49ers will soon start winning. Charlotte 49ers Preview 2025: Offense X CFN, Fiu | CFN Facebook | Bluesky Fiu, CFN- The offense couldn't complete passes, couldn't keep the chains moving, and turned it over too much, but it started to pick it up late. The good and the bad news are pretty much the same - almost no one is back from last year's attack.- Step One is to get the offensive line in place. Under Albin, Ohio was 12th in the nation in rushing last season, but that team had the parts. Charlotte gets back Jonny King at center with the transfer portal helping to fill the key gaps. Don Chaney was a good running back at Miami and got in a little work at Louisville last year - he'll be the main man. There's decent depth for the rotation, and now …- There has to be a passing game, and that's ALL about the transfers. Conner Harrell (North Carolina) and Grayson Loftis (Duke) are each decent quarterback options, but all the new wide receivers - most are from Power Four schools - need some seasoning. Tight end Jake Young (Western Carolina) will be an instant target. Charlotte 49ers Preview 2025: Defense - Defensive coordinators Nate Faanes and Kurt Mattix were part of Albin's staff at Ohio. Their defense was ninth in the nation last year, first in the MAC in scoring D, and fourth in the nation against the run. They'll have to make magic with a whole slew of transfers, especially in the corners are new, but there are options. The safeties should be the early stars - Caleb Curtain was fantastic over the last few years at Elon.- The tackles are relatively home grown, but there's not a lot of experience. Jaylon Johnson was a terrific pass rusher at the JUCO level last year, and Braden Mullen was an Ivy League all-star at Dartmouth over the last two years.- On a team that's almost completely starting over, the leading tackler is back. Reid Williford isn't huge, but he cleaned up in the middle of the linebacking corps with 77 stops and two sacks. Outside linebacker Gavin Willis was a tackling machine last season at Bucknell with 129 tackles. Charlotte 49ers Key to the Season Complete more 49ers couldn't move the chains last season mainly because the passing game couldn't hit the midrange throws. They were 131st in the nation in completion percentage, 129th in third down conversions, and even with that they were 4-2 when throwing for more than 200 yards and 0-5 when throwing for fewer, so … Charlotte 49ers Key Player Conner Harrell, QB Grayson Loftis. One of them has to take over the starting quarterback gig and be steady. Harrell got in a little work over the last two seasons at North Carolina hitting 61% of his throws for 560 yards and four scores with three picks, and he can run. Charlotte 49ers Top Transfer, Biggest Transfer Loss Top Transfer In: Don Chaney, RB veteran wasn't able to quite catch on with Louisville last year, but he was a solid part of the Miami rotation as a freshman, was out for most of the next two years, and ran for 478 yards and two scores in 2023. There's plenty of tread on the tires with the talent to be a statistical force in the Transfer Out: O'Mega Blake, WR passing game wasn't always bad last year. Blake averaged almost 25 yards per catch with a team-leading 795 yards and nine touchdowns. He would've been a much-needed no. 1 deep threat target, but now he's at Arkansas. Charlotte 49ers Key Game North Texas, Oct. 24Just how good will Charlotte be by the end of October? November will be a massive problem with three of the last four games on the road. If things are starting to progress in Albin's first year, winning at North Texas might just put the 49ers in a position to go bowling if they can pull this off.- 2025 Charlotte 49ers Schedule Breakdown Charlotte 49ers Top 10 Players 1. Reid Williford, LB Sr.2. Don Chaney, RB Sr.3. Caleb Curtain, S Sr.4. Gavin Willis, LB Jr.5. Braden Mullen, EDGE Sr.6. Treyveon McGee, S Sr.7. Jaylon Johnson, EDGE Jr.8. Jake Young, TE Jr.9. It'll be better than Tim Albin's first year at Ohio - he went 3-9 - but there will be a few too tough losses to get to a The Charlotte 49ers Win Total At … 4.5Likely Wins: Monmouth, Rice50/50 Games: App State, at Army, at East Carolina, North Texas, Temple, UTSA,Likely Losses: at Georgia, North Carolina, at Tulane, at USF © 2025 The Arena Group Holdings, Inc. Cristóbal Tapia de Veer reveals he won't be returning as ‘The White Lotus' composer
'The White Lotus' has been a popular destination for viewers, but one artist who has contributed to the success of series announced he won't return for another stay. Cristóbal Tapia de Veer, the composer for the HBO drama, told the New York Times that he's had creative disagreements with the show's creator and director, Mike White, since the first season. 'I feel like this was, you know, a rock 'n' roll band story,' he said. 'I was like, OK, this is like a rock band I've been in before where the guitar player doesn't understand the singer at all.' CNN has reached out to representatives for HBO for comment. (CNN and HBO are both part of Warner Bros. Discovery.) Tapia de Veer has won three Emmys for his work on 'The White Lotus' and said 'for sure' the third season will be his last. He was asked how White responded to his decision to part ways with the show. 'I can't really talk about that,' Tapia de Veer replied. 'There was a French movie, 'La Cage Aux Folles.' You know how there's Albin, which is like the star, and there's Renato, who is the producer who is always taking care that Albin doesn't lose his mind about something, because Albin is the diva and Renato is the guy who is trying to make everything work. To me, the show felt very much like that.' Tapia de Veer said changes to the opening theme music in Season 3 were met with a strong reaction, 'When that came out, I had TMZ calling me, even people from England and from France, because they wanted some kind of statement about the theme.' 'People are furious about the change of the theme, and I thought that was interesting. I texted the producer and I told him that it would be great to, at some point, give them the longer version with the ooh-loo-loo-loos, because people will explode if they realize that it was going there anyway,' he added. 'He thought it was a good idea. But then Mike cut that — he wasn't happy about that.' 'I mean, at that point, we already had our last fight forever, I think. So he was just saying no to anything,' he added. 'The White Lotus' is streaming on Max.

High egg prices putting a pinch on Louisiana bakeries ahead of Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras is less than two weeks away and hundreds of thousands of people are expected to get in on the carnival celebrations in the Big Easy. During carnival season, people seek out the multitude of parades that roll through the streets and also possibly get their hands on a king cake. The French pastry covered in green, purple, and yellow glitter is a favorite for both locals and visitors. But in order to make one of these famous cakes, you have to crack a few eggs. Egg prices are the highest they have ever been and small businesses that bake those famous cakes are facing sticker shock. Jean-Luc Albin owns the Maurice French Pastries bakery in Metairie, Louisiana. He has been crafting French treats for over 30 years. Albin said Mardi Gras season is the busiest time of the year, with his team baking over 100 king cakes a day at the shop. King cakes are popular for any kind of party leading up to Fat Tuesday, he said. "It's part of the celebration, it's something you can share with friends," said Albin. "It came to be an obsession among everyone. Every year it seems to get more exciting." Albin said the high cost of ingredients is making it tougher to turn a profit. He is not planning on raising the prices of his king cakes, but he's hoping the cost of eggs will come down soon. "You can get them at certain supermarkets for over $10, $12 a dozen. All of that is kind of mysterious," Albin said. "However, the chocolate went up, the eggs are up. So it's difficult in our business." In January, the average price of eggs hit $4.95 per dozen in the United States. The bird flu outbreak is killing millions of chickens, leading to the high egg prices. Osman Kazan, the director of the Business Analytics Program at Tulane University, said people may have to face a new reality when shopping for eggs. "We won't be going back to very cheap dozens of eggs, which we saw several years ago," he said. "So this is going to stay here for awhile, and the high will become the new normal." Kazan added that egg prices are likely to get even higher — and people may not see prices level off until the summer.
