Ex-Tanjong Pagar United footballer charged over post-game scuffle

A former Tanjong Pagar United football player was charged with two counts of assault on July 23 after he allegedly punched two Albirex Niigata footballers at the end of a Singapore Premier League Under-21 League game in February. According to court documents, Rizqin Aniq Rahaizad, now 20, allegedly punched a 17-year-old Albirex defender in the mouth at Jurong East Stadium at around 9.45pm on Feb 10, causing a slight bleeding. The teenager cannot be named as those below 18 are protected under the Children and Young Persons Act. Rizqin is also accused of punching another Albirex defender, Kenji Austin Ho, then 20, on the left side of his face that evening. Tanjong Pagar United announced on Feb 12 that they had terminated Rizqin's contract. The Straits Times reported in March that he was also handed a 30-month ban by the Football Association of Singapore and fined $2,000 over the incident. His case will be mentioned again in court on Aug 20. If convicted of assault, an offender can be jailed for up to three years and fined up to $5,000 for each charge.

Former Tanjong Pagar footballer charged with punching pair from rival club after match at Jurong East Stadium

SINGAPORE: A former Tanjong Pagar United football player was charged in court on Wednesday (Jul 23) over a punching incident involving two rival players in February, which resulted in his termination from the club. Rizqin Aniq Rahaizad, 20, was given two counts of voluntarily causing hurt after the match at Jurong East Stadium on Feb 10. He allegedly punched a 17-year-old Albirex Niigata defender, who cannot be named under the Children and Young Persons Act, causing bleeding at his mouth and pain in his teeth. He is also accused of punching the face of Ho Matsuoka Evangelista Kenji Austin, better known as Kenji Austin Ho. The Albirex player's jaw swelled up and became numb, according to the charge sheet. Past reports indicated that the incident occurred during post-match handshakes after Tanjong Pagar played Albirex in a Singapore Premier League (SPL) Under-21 game. Rizqin was arrested by the police. At the time, Albirex said Ho was admitted to hospital after being hit in the head and discharged after being examined. Rizqin's contract was terminated by his club. The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) also gave him a 30-month ban and a fine of S$2,000 (US$1,564) for violent conduct.

Japanese defender Hayato Inamura's move to Celtic appears to have moved a step closer to completion after Albirex Niigata confirmed that he is on the brink of a transfer to an overseas club. Inamura emerged as a transfer target for Celtic earlier this month and the 23-year-old, who can operate as either a centre-half or a left- back, is now set to join the Scottish champions. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The 23-year-old joined Albirex Niigata from Tokyo University just last year but has impressed with his performances for a side that is battling relegation in the J-League. He has made 16 appearances so far and despite being contracted until the summer of 2027, his club have resigned themselves to losing the player. Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has already made three signings this summer. | SNS Group While not directly confirming that Inamura is going to Celtic, Albirex Niigata confirmed in a statement after a 4-0 home defeat by Machida Zelvia on Sunday that the player is now not part of the first-team preparations for their next match against Kyoto Sanga. An Albirex Niigata spokesperson wrote: 'We would like to inform you that Hayato Inamura (23), a member of our club, left the team on June 29th in order to complete the necessary procedures and preparations for a transfer to an overseas club. We will notify you of Inamura's future once an official decision has been made.' Should Inamura - as expected - complete his move to Celtic, he would become manager Brendan Rodgers' fourth signing of the current transfer window. Goalkeeper Ross Doohan, defender Kieran Tierney and winger Benjamin Nygren have all been signed ahead of the upcoming campaign, with more arrivals to follow. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Inamura would complete an overhaul of Celtic's left-back options. Scotland internationalist Tierney has returned on a free transfer after six years at Arsenal and will take over from Greg Taylor as the first-choice in that position. Taylor is expected to join Greek side PAOK after his Celtic contract expired, while Jeffrey Schlupp's loan from Crystal Palace concluded at the end of the season.

Celtic boss makes surprise U-turn on new signing Inamura

Rodgers initially stated that the defender, who joined from Albirex Niigata for a reported £250,000 last week, would not be part of the first team upon arrival. However, after Inamura's first-half performance in a friendly game against Cork City on Tuesday, the manager has changed his stance. Rodgers said [RecordSport]: "I'm not fixed on it. "The feeling from us all was, okay, we'll bring him in and see how he does pre-season, thinking that he may need to get out and play. "But I always judge players in the pre-season on how they look and are they going to be capable. Read more: "He's certainly shown in the few days training he's so smooth with the ball. "Not only that, he plays forward." Rodgers praised Inamura's ability to pass the ball forward and his willingness to attack, which he believes is essential for those playing for big clubs like Celtic. He added: "I've got to say, he surprised me. "We knew that he was going to come in and I felt that maybe it was going to be a bit more settling in for him and maybe alone or whatever, but we'll see how he works." Rodgers acknowledged Inamura's late start in professional football due to the Japanese system of going through university before turning professional at 23-24. He noted that Inamura will need to develop physically, but his comfort on the ball and attacking mindset are promising. Rodgers concluded: "So we'll see how he looks over the remaining games."

Celtic's Hayato Inamura in apology gift to old club's fans

The 23-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the Scottish champions, although Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed he could be sent straight out on loan after his arrival this week. He was regarded as a hero during his stay at his homeland club and many of their fans bought strips and merchandise with his name on it. And Inamura has taken the unusual step of offering every Albirex Niigata fan who bought products with his name on it a unique gift to show his appreciation for their support. Read more: He said: "I would like to personally express my gratitude to all the people who supported me while I was with Albirex Niigata. "I have prepared a small gift for those who purchased products with my name on them. "I also want to take this opportunity to thank the club staff who made the arrangements to arrange this gift despite my sudden departure. "His former club stated: "We apologise for the inconvenience to supporters who purchased gifts and strips with the name of Hayato Inamura. "Hayato has personally requested that anyone who has purchased anything with his name on it will receive a small token of his appreciation by way of a gift."
