Aston Martin unleashes most powerful Vantage S ever made

S becomes the first non-V12 engine production Vantage to offer 500 kW. Vantage S come resplendent with red accents, carbon fibre fixtures and bespoke, albeit optional, 21-inch Y-spoke alloy wheels. Image: Aston Martin Billed as the most focused of its namesake, Aston Martin has whipped the wraps off the new Vantage S. The Vantage S retains the 'standard' model's 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, but gains an injection of power – an increase of 11 kW for a peak power output of 500 kW. Torque remains unchanged, at 800 Nm. Power is exclusively delivered to the rear axle via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Various aerodynamic changes, including the revised rear spoiler, is said to generate 111 kg of downforce at top speed. Image: Aston Martin According to the manufacturer, thanks to the increase in power, along with the changes made to the engine's calibration and optimised launch control system, the Vantage S completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.4 seconds, making it one-tenth of a second quicker to the three-figure marker than its 'standard' coupé sibling's 3.5-second claim. ALSO READ: DB12 styling and more grunt handed to Aston Martin Vantage The 0-200 km/h dash is dispatched in 10.1 seconds. The top speed remains unchanged, at 325 km/h. Interior makeover comprises Alcantara upholstery seats with red S badges, and carbon fibre inserts. Image: Aston Martin The Vantage S is brought to a halt by a steel braking system, comprising 400 mm fore/360 mm aft discs, and six-and four-piston calipers, front and rear. A carbon ceramic setup is also available. NOW READ: Hard out, soft-top in Aston Martin debuts facelift Vantage Roadster

Maserati MCPura revealed as latest version of Italian V6 supercar

The Maserati MCPura is the next instalment of the Italian brand's supercar, bringing unique styling cues inside and out but no performance enhancements. And the name is MCPura (or MCPURA, as Maserati formats it), not McPura – this isn't milk sold at McDonald's, but rather a 'pure' expression of Maserati's supercar. It's due to arrive in Australia during the first quarter (January to March) of 2026. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. Supplied Credit: CarExpert The latest permutation of the MC20 is making its debut at this weekend's Goodwood Festival of Speed, finished in distinctive Al Aqua Rainbow paint – a blue that changes colour in the sun – with a matte finish on the coupe and a gloss finish for the open-top Cielo. The MCPura takes design inspiration from the also MC20-based GT2 Stradale, with a similarly aggressive front bumper and an available, oversized rear spoiler. The revamped lower front fascia features trim finished in either gloss black, hyper dark myron matte, or carbon-fibre. Maserati says the visual changes give the supercar's 'shark nose' an 'even more accentuated appearance', while other exterior changes include unique badging. Supplied Credit: CarExpert It also says the focus was on offering timeless styling. There are 'no obvious aerodynamic appendages', while the air intakes on the bonnet and side panels 'become natural elements that almost vanish when looking at the car from certain angles'. A new Devil Orange exterior finish also joins the 10-strong colour palette. This was previously featured in the F Tributo special series created in 2022. The colour pays homage to Maria Teresa De Fillippis, the first woman to qualify for a Formula 1 Grand Prix; she did so in a Maserati 250F, and was nicknamed 'she-devil'. Open the butterfly doors and you'll see the MCPura's interior has been swathed in Alcantara; the faux-suede material is found on the seats, door panels, dashboard and steering wheel. Supplied Credit: CarExpert The seats are laser-etched in Alcantara Ice and feature iridescent graphics. Maserati notes Alcantara is 'lighter than leather and helps to reduce the car's weight'; it also claims it's more resistant to wear and tear and heat and UV exposure, while also being more breathable for occupants during 'high-intensity driving'. There's a new steering wheel inspired by GT2 racing, featuring a flat top and engine start button. Paddle shifters sit behind it, mounted on the steering column, and these can be finished in dark aluminium or carbon-fibre. Options for the MCPura coupe include a carbon-fibre steering wheel with gear change indicator LEDs, as previously seen in the GT2 Stradale. Supplied Credit: CarExpert Also carried over from the GT2 Stradale are the 'performance pages' for the infotainment system, displaying information on torque management, oil pressure, and other performance data. This infotainment system continues to comprise a 10.25-inch touchscreen running Android Automotive; a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster sits ahead of the driver. The Cielo features a retractable electric roof with polymer dispersed liquid crystal glass, which allows you to switch it from opaque to transparent in one second. The roof also has an opening and closing speed of just 12 seconds, and can be opened at speeds of up to 50km/h. Maserati's Nettuno twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6, mounted rear midship and featuring a dry sump, produces 469kW of power and 720Nm of torque. That's the same torque figure as the GT2 Stradale, but power is down 2kW. Supplied Credit: CarExpert Drive is sent through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and Maserati claims a 0-100km/h time of 2.9 seconds. The MCPura, like the MC20 and its derivatives, is based on a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis giving it an impressively low weight – just 1475kg in coupe guise. Since its reveal in 2020, Maserati has continued to reveal variants of the MC20 including the open-top MC20 Cielo in 2022, the track-only MCXtrema in 2023, and the GT2 Stradale in 2024. The MCPura will be produced at Maserati's plant in Modena, Italy, which will also manufacture the new GranTurismo coupe and GranCabrio convertible from the fourth quarter of 2025, and which currently produces the Nettuno V6 powering these models as well as the Grecale Trofeo mid-size SUV. Blue Jays Surprisingly Named Fit for Sandy Alcantara During Win Streak

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The Toronto Blue Jays have quickly surpassed the New York Yankees in the American League East. Now, they're clear buyers ahead of the trade deadline in the midst of a 10-game win streak. Tim Britton, Aaron Gleeman and Chad Jennings from The Athletic list Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara as a fit for the Blue Jays. MIAMI, FLORIDA - JULY 4: Sandy Alcantara #22 of the Miami Marlins pitches during the first inning against the Milwaukee Brewers at loanDepot park on July 4, 2025 in Miami, Florida. MIAMI, FLORIDA - JULY 4: Sandy Alcantara #22 of the Miami Marlins pitches during the first inning against the Milwaukee Brewers at loanDepot park on July 4, 2025 in Miami, Florida."Which version of Alcantara is actually on the market? The 2022 Cy Young winner excelled then by keeping the ball in the park and on the ground," they wrote. "But he took a step back in 2023, went under the knife for Tommy John surgery and has returned this year without the command that makes his mix work. He ditched his slider earlier this year and started to look like the Sandy of old – right up until he allowed 12 runs in 12 innings the last two times out." Alcantara has been far from his best this year with the Marlins. While some of that is due to Miami not being good, Alcantara himself hasn't been good either. However, teams are likely to gamble and hope he can improve in a new environment based on what he's done in the past. "Since June 1, the walk rate is one-third of what it was before then, and so there's reason to believe Alcantara's worst is behind him," they wrote. "He isn't a pitcher who strikes out the lineup, but he is a potential playoff starter, and the supply of those is very limited this deadline." Alcantara to the Blue Jays would be one of the biggest shocks of the trade deadline, but it would allow Toronto to compete with the Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros and the Yankees. Marlins' comeback attempt falls shot in loss to Milwaukee Brewers

The new-found Marlins magic fell just short on Friday night. Despite multiple comeback attempts, Miami dropped the series opener to the Milwaukee Brewers, 6-5, in front of a lively crowd of 16,715 fans—many of whom stayed for the postgame fireworks. 'Let's start with the atmosphere. Our crowd tonight was great, and it was a lively, festive environment that gave us a lot of support,' Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said. 'It was a really fun game, and unfortunately, we just ran out of time.' The Marlins trailed 5-2 in the fourth. But as they've done throughout their recent stretch of nine wins in 11 games, they battled back. A solo home run from Connor Norby and a two-run shot by Otto Lopez brought the game back to even in the sixth. 'I think our guys had really good at-bats and were able to claw back multiple times,' McCullough said. 'This game was a real testament to how we just hung in there and did a nice job against a good team.' Unfortunately for Miami, the Brewers regained the lead in the eighth on a go-ahead RBI double from Jackson Chourio. The Marlins mounted one final threat in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs, Xavier Edwards singled and Jesus Sánchez worked a nine-pitch walk to put the tying run in scoring position and the winning run on first. But closer Tyler Megill struck out Lopez to end the game and hand Miami just their second loss in the past two weeks. The Marlins jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to an RBI fielder's choice by Otto Lopez, but the resilient Brewers—despite arriving at their hotel at 4 a.m.—answered in the third. With runners dancing off first and second, Sandy Alcantara was called for a balk that advanced both. Sal Frelick followed with a sacrifice fly, and William Contreras added an RBI double to give Milwaukee a 2–1 lead. When asked postgame if he had paid too much attention to the baserunners, Alcantara admitted: 'Yeah, probably. You guys saw the balk that cost me two runs, so I need to forget about the runners.' The Marlins quickly responded in the bottom half of the third, thanks to a pair of Brewers errors. With Edwards on first, Sánchez hit a swinging bunt that was airmailed by pitcher Quinn Priester. Second baseman Brice Turang retrieved the ball and tried to throw out Edwards at third, but that throw sailed wide as well, allowing Edwards to score and tie the game. The Brewers would reclaim the lead in the fourth, tagging Alcantara for three runs to go ahead 5-2. Making his 17th start since undergoing Tommy John surgery in September 2023, Alcantara showed flashes of his Cy Young form but remains a work in progress. 'I don't know what to say about it,' Alcantara said. 'The competing part of it was great out there, but it wasn't my day today.' Alcantara threw six innings, allowing five runs (all earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out four. With the defeat, the Marlins fell to 39–47, tying them with the Braves for third place in the NL East. Veteran righthander Cal Quantrill will take the mound on Saturday, opposing Brewers rookie Chad Patrick in Game 2 of the series.
