Who is Alex Eala's Eastbourne Open finals foe Maya Joint?
Alex Eala will play in a WTA Tour finals for the first time in her career on Saturday. Eala reached the finals of the Eastbourne Open after defeating France's Varvara Gracheva in the semifinals. In the finals, the 20-year old Filipina will face Maya Joint of Australia. Joint is a 19-year old player who has won the Morocco Open last May, her first WTA title. In Eastbourne, Joint defeated 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu in the Round of 16. In the post-match interview, Eala could not help but cry as she reached her first WTA Tour level finals. "I'm super happy because was a tough match. There were really tough moments where she was playing well and sometimes, you know, didn't know how to get out of it. So I'm really happy with winning," Eala said. Eala dispatched Varvara Gracheva of France, 7-5, 2-6, 6-3, in the semis on Friday, and will face Maya Joint of Australia in the finals. Joint is coming off a 7-5, 6-3 semis victory against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the semifinals.
