GlobalLogic joins AI-RAN Alliance to boost AI in telecom networks
GlobalLogic has announced it has joined the AI-RAN Alliance to support the integration of artificial intelligence into radio access network solutions. The AI-RAN Alliance brings together organisations across the technology and telecommunications sectors to accelerate the adoption of AI-driven technologies in RAN (Radio Access Network) systems. As part of its membership, GlobalLogic will contribute knowledge in AI and machine learning, 5G, RAN (including Cloud RAN and O-RAN), and network architecture to help the alliance further its goals in automation, efficiency, and network monetisation. Alliance focus GlobalLogic's work within the alliance will centre on three primary domains: AI-for-RAN, which leverages AI to enhance radio access network capability and spectral efficiency; AI-and-RAN, which involves integrating AI with RAN processes to optimise infrastructure use and develop new revenue streams; and AI-on-RAN, which aims to facilitate real-time decision making and emerging edge use cases by deploying AI workloads directly onto RAN infrastructure. RAN engineering advancements GlobalLogic said it is investing in advancing RAN performance through the use of GPU-based acceleration techniques for compute-intensive signal processing, as well as the creation of AI-driven RAN algorithms. These developments aim to increase network responsiveness, reduce energy consumption, and optimise the use of radio resources. The company pointed out that the impact of AI-enhanced RAN technologies is being seen across a range of industry verticals. Industry applications In the telecommunications sector, GlobalLogic aims to assist providers with the modernisation and monetisation of their network infrastructure. This includes the implementation of GPU-accelerated signal processing for functions such as network access and managing multi-user data, as well as the deployment of AI algorithms for more effective real-time decision making. According to the company, these solutions facilitate higher capacity, more efficient energy use, and performance scalability for both current 5G networks and future iterations. For the railway industry, the use of AI-powered RAN at the network edge promises increased safety and efficiency across several scenarios, including real-time video analytics, predictive maintenance, improvements to on-board services, and supporting reliable communications for critical operations. In the area of smart cities, GlobalLogic is focusing on ultra-low latency applications, such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications. These are being integrated with city infrastructure components including smart traffic lights and sensors, which the company said should contribute to improved mobility, safety, and emergency response services.
