England footballer Alex Scott urges fans to spur them on to European glory
England footballer Alex Scott has issued a rallying cry to supporters, urging them to spur the team on to European success. The Guernsey-born midfielder is expected to start Saturday evening's Euro Under-21 Final against Germany in Bratislava and believes the Three Lions' fans could make the difference. He says: "A massive thank you for supporting so far, we're going to need you for one more game. "I see all the messages and kind words from people back home and it would be nice to come back with a winner's medal next week." The young Premier League player struggled with injury at points last season, starting around half of AFC Bournemouth's league games and calls it "one of the toughest periods I've had in football so far". Scott then broke his jaw and required surgery towards the end of the campaign after being caught by Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings' elbow, requiring him to wear a protective chin strap during this tournament. He explains: "That's just been my luck ... The heat doesn't help at all. At any point I can, I take it off and have a little breather from the chin strap but it's fine. "I've adapted and if we end up winning, I'm probably going to have to keep wearing it for next season. It'll be a little lucky charm, hopefully." Scott netted against Germany at the group stage, albeit during a 2-1 defeat, and hopes he can get on the scoresheet once again as the two historic rivals face off for the trophy. He says: "I need to score more goals so that was nice to get my first for the under-21s and to do it in a tournament too makes it extra special. "Hopefully, I can do it again in the final; that would be one of my best moments in football if I managed to do that. "I'll be doing everything I can for this badge that's on my chest because it's massive for the country. We'll be ready for the final and everybody's looking forward to it." Scott will be supported by family and friends who are in Slovakia to watch the big game, including his parents and grandparents. He adds: "It's been great to have them around and when we get a bit of free time, I can go out into the old town here, have a coffee and catch up with them because during the season, I don't get to see them too often. "Obviously, the travelling is tough but they've done everything they can to come out here and support me so I'm very grateful for them and hopefully we can lift the trophy together after the game." England U21 star Scott hails team-mate Anderson ahead of Euros semi-final
England U21 midfielder Alex Scott hailed teammate Elliot Anderson for his significant impact in helping the Young Lions progress to the semi-finals of the U21 European Championship. The pair have impressed as defensive midfielders in Lee Carsley's 4-2-2-2 system throughout this summer's tournament. Advertisement Anderson had a standout season for Nottingham Forest, providing eight goal contributions as the Reds secured European football for the first time since 1996. The Bournemouth midfielder was full of praise for his midfield partner, with the duo expected to start against the Netherlands in the semi-final on Wednesday night. '[It's been] really enjoyable,' he said. 'He's obviously had an amazing season at Forest. He's shown what he can do in the Premier League. 'Then, to come here, he's a massive player for us and he brings us so much experience, energy and his technical ability is very good as well. I've loved every minute of playing next to him in midfield. Advertisement 'We have a great relationship off the pitch and that comes on the pitch as well. He's a top, top player and we get along all the time.' Scott will be hoping to draw on experience gained from competing in the U19 European Championship back in 2022, where he scored with his first touch of the game in the semi-final against Italy. 'It's on a different scale,' he said. 'You're playing for the U21s now, and we've seen how good they were two years ago and what it took for them to win it. So I think that's almost the baseline for us. 'Like (Lee) Carsley said, we're a different group of players. We know what it takes to win, some of us, in the U19s. But we're just looking forward to it. We've been working so hard throughout the qualifying campaign, and we deserve to be here. 'Obviously, we're an England team. We go into every game with the mindset that we have the ability to win the game. So there's no reason why we're not going to do that tomorrow.'

Bournemouth's Alex Scott pushing through pain barrier of broken jaw with specialised mask for England Euro joy
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ALEX SCOTT is pushing through the pain barrier to deliver more European glory for our country. The Bournemouth star suffered a fractured jaw after being caught by the elbow of Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings last month. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Alex Scott is wearing a specialised mask for England at the Euros Credit: Shutterstock 3 The Bournemouth star suffered a fractured jaw after being caught by Tyrone Mings' elbow Credit: Getty He had to wear a chin strap when he came off the bench for the final few seconds of the Cherries' final day victory over Leicester. Now Scott revealed he has had a specialised one designed for the Under-21 European Championship. So far he has produced one goal and an assist to help the Young Lions reach the semi-finals — and he is adamant that it is causing him no issues at all. The 21-year-old said: 'It's honestly been fine. Before I had a different mask, which was a lot tougher to wear. 'I tried it out in a few sessions before we came to Slovakia. Thankfully the staff with England managed to do everything they could to get me a new one fitted. 'I've adapted to it well. It gets sweaty so, throughout the games, I try to take it off as much as I can. But it's been fine.' Bournemouth forked out £20million to Bristol City for Scott in 2023. That came 12 months after the midfielder starred for England U19s as they lifted the Euros — coincidentally also in Slovakia. He came on as sub to equalise against Italy in that semi in June 2022 to spark a 2-1 comeback victory. BEST FREE BETS AND BETTING SIGN UP OFFERS Ahead of today's last-four clash with Holland, Scott recalled: 'We've got a lot of players here who played in that game. 'At first I was a bit annoyed at the start on the bench, but I was ready to come on and make an impact. One of my first touches I managed to score.' England u21s clash with Germany SUSPENDED as stadium plunged into semi-darkness and players taken off pitch Those U19s repeated that trick after falling behind to Israel in the final to triumph 3-1 and lift the trophy. Scott, one of six men from that squad included in Lee Carsley's current crop, said: 'It's one of my proudest moments of my career so far. 'It is any time that I've been away with England, but to win a tournament was really special. 'That brings experience as well. Like I said, a few of my lads have been there and done it. 'I know what it takes to win a major tournament. So we're looking forward to the game against Holland now. 3 Alex Scott scored the equaliser against Italy in the 2022 semi at the U19 Euros Credit: AFP 'Hopefully we can take that experience we have and take it into this.' And while Scott wants to create another piece of history, he and his team-mates are also hoping to replicate the England team from 1982 and 1984 by winning back-to-back U21 Euros. Scott added: 'It's all about now for us and the hunger to win this tournament. 'Two years ago they won it, so that's a bit of pressure on us, as there always is for England at tournaments. 'The group we have, the games we've played at all levels, Premier League, Championship, there's not a lot of pressure we feel as players. Hopefully we can win.'
