Broncos roster: LB Alex Singleton (No. 49) hopes to bounce back from torn ACL

Broncos Wire's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at seventh-year linebacker Alex Singleton, No. 49. Before the Broncos: Singleton (6-2, 240 pounds) came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Bozeman, Montana, via Montana State University, with the Seattle Seahawks in 2015. From 2016-18, Singleton took his talents north of the border to the Canadian Football League, where he played 54 games for the Calgary Stampeders. While in Canada, Singleton had 311 tackles, four sacks, one interception, six forced fumbles and 17 special-teams tackles. A two-time CFL All-Star, Singleton won the Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award award in 2017, and he helped the Stampeders win a Grey Cup championship in 2018. In 2019, Singleton signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he immediately began making an impact. From 2019-21, Singleton played in 42 games, with 19 starts. Singleton had 262 total tackles (158 solo, 104 assisted, nine tackles for loss), 2.0 sacks, three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, five pass deflections and two interceptions, both of which were returned for touchdowns. Broncos tenure: Singleton was signed by the Denver Broncos prior to the 2022 season. Like he did in Philadelphia, Singleton made a huge impact in the middle of the Denver defense. Singleton played in all 17 games, starting 12. Singleton proceeded to have a career-high in tackles, with 163 total tackles (101 solo, 62 assisted, six tackles for loss). He also had three pass deflections and one forced fumble in 2022. According to the Broncos, Singleton became the only NFL player since at least 1994 to have recorded multiple games of 20+ tackles in a single season during 2022. In 2023, Singleton again played in all 17 games, starting 16 games. Again, Singleton set a career-high in tackles, with 177 total tackles (106 solo, 71 assisted, six tackles for loss), four pass deflections, two fumble recoveries and 2.0 sacks. In 2023, Singleton recorded the most double-digit tackle games (13) in a single season by any NFL player since at least 1999. Prior to the 2024 season, Singleton signed a three-year contract worth $18 million. In 2024, Singleton was rewarded as a defensive captain, a leader in the middle of the field. Singleton would likely have had another big season, had he not suffered a tremendous setback in Week 3, when he tore his ACL against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Remarkably, Singleton played the rest of the game on the torn ligament. After successful surgery, Singleton looks to be healthy going into 2025, once again a key leader in the Broncos' defense. Chances to make the 53-man roster: Likely. Singleton, 31, posted great numbers for the Broncos several years in a row. Denver chose Singleton over former linebacker Josey Jewell after they each had 100+ tackles in a season. Singleton displayed signature toughness and tremendous leadership, being voted captain for the first time in his career in 2024. Assuming he can return to his pre-injury form, Singleton is poised to start for the Broncos in 2025. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! Alex Singleton: It's crazy not to have goal of being best Broncos defense

The Broncos returned to the playoffs last season for the first time since they won Super Bowl 50 and linebacker Alex Singleton is looking to that championship team as inspiration for the year to come. Defense carried the Broncos for much of that season and the unit's performance overwhelmed the Panthers in Levi's Stadium to secure the title. The 2024 Broncos finished third in points allowed and seventh in yards allowed, so it was already a strength before adding players like linebacker Dre Greenlaw, safety Talanoa Hufanga and first-round cornerback Jahdae Barron this offseason. Singleton told Zac Stevens of DNVR that he didn't expect that investment in the defense and that he feels 'it's going to be special' enough to support setting some high goals for the year to come. Singleton said 'if you're not saying you want to be the best, I think it's crazy' and he's got his sights set on that Super Bowl crew. 'It's one of those things where it's like, 'Let's be better than the 2015 defense.' Stuff where like that's what we need to chase,' Singleton said. The AFC has no shortage of contenders, but reaching the lofty goal that Singleton has set for the Broncos could put them in the mix for another February trip to Santa Clara.

Broncos' Alex Singleton Expected to Return For OTAs and Training Camp

During the 2024 NFL season, Denver Broncos' linebacker Alex Singleton suffered a torn ACL, knocking him out for the rest of the year. He played in the first three games of the season and then missed the final 15 weeks of the year. Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post wrote an article about the return of Singleton from his ACL injury and his expected return date. Singleton shared his thoughts on his recovery and how he's approaching his upcoming return to the field. Advertisement At a charity event, Singleton said, "I can't give specific numbers, but we have practices in a few weeks and you guys can see for yourselves where I'm at." Being ready for training camp would be a huge step in the right direction for the veteran linebacker. Singleton's confidence in being ready for practices is a great sign in his road to recovery. He continued talking about his recovery and what it'd mean to be back on the field. "I think I'm getting my helmet fitted next week, I think that'll be a little happy moment. Then, the first OTAs. All these happy moments. And then training camp, it'll be like, 'Oh, we're back.' I think it'll be really cool to get to do those things and get to do that." Denver Broncos inside linebacker Alex Singleton (49) and Denver Broncos defensive end Zach Allen (99) during organized team activities at Centura Health Training J. Downing-Imagn Images Singleton returning to the team would not only be a huge moment for Singleton in his road to recovery, but for the Broncos as well. With the addition of free agent linebacker Dre Greenlaw, both the Broncos' starting linebackers in 2025 will be coming off injuries that ruled them out for the majority of their 2024 season. Advertisement The 31-year-old Singleton was coming off back-to-back seasons with the Broncos, having over 160 tackles and 100 solo tackles, before tearing his ACL. The 2025 season will be a big test for Singleton, and his return will have a massive impact on the Broncos' chances in the playoffs. With the additions the Broncos made in the offseason, the return of a tackling machine in Singleton would elevate the Broncos' defense to potentially being the best in the NFL. Denver is ready for Singleton's return. But, there is no one more eager to see Singleton suit back up than Singleton himself. Alex Singleton: You'll see where I am in ACL rehab at practice in a few weeks

Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton said earlier this offseason that he believes he's on track to return from a torn ACL in time to play in the first week of the regular season and he sound and he now sounds like he expects to be on the field well ahead of that point. Singleton tore his ACL in Week Three last season and he said he 'can't give specific numbers' on where he is in terms of his recovery, but said that an opportunity for others to make that evaluation will be coming up soon. 'We have practices in a few weeks and you guys can see for yourselves where I'm at . . . I think I'm getting my helmet fitted next week,' Singleton said, via Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post. 'I think that'll be a little happy moment. Then the first OTAs. All these happy moments. And then training camp, it'll be like, 'Oh, we're back.' I think it'll be really cool to get to do those things and get to do that.' Singleton joined the Broncos in 2022 and is heading into the final year of the three-year extension he signed in 2023. He has 371 tackles, two sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries in 37 games with Denver.

Courtland Sutton and Alex Singleton watched Nuggets beat OKC

Courtland Sutton and Alex Singleton watched Nuggets beat OKC The Denver Broncos might just be good luck for the Denver Nuggets. Broncos legend Peyton Manning, quarterback Bo Nix, wide receiver Courtland Sutton (and more) have all attended Nuggets games this season, and Denver has won each contest with Broncos players in attendance. Sutton was back at Ball Arena on Thursday evening, joined by linebacker Alex Singleton. The players received a warm welcome from Nuggets fans: The Nuggets defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 119-107 on Thursday night, forcing a Game 7 in the series. Denver will now need to win in Oklahoma City on Sunday afternoon to advance to the Western Conference Semifinals. The Minnesota Timberwolves are waiting to face the winner of the Denver-Oklahoma City series in a semifinal series set to begin on May 20. If the Nuggets advance, we'll probably see Broncos attend more playoff games as players will be in town for organized team activities (May 27-29) later this month.
