Russia says Ukraine drone strikes kill one, wound four

Russia said on Thursday that it had intercepted 126 Ukrainian drones in attacks that killed one person and left four civilians wounded. Air defenses shot down 122 drones overnight and four others early in the morning, most of them over regions in Russia's southwest that border Ukraine but also three over the Moscow region, the defense ministry said in a post on Telegram. The strikes killed one woman and wounded a civilian man in the border region of Belgorod, its governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, wrote on Telegram. In the border region of Voronezh, three teens were wounded when falling drone debris struck a building, regional governor Alexander Gusev wrote on Telegram. On Wednesday, Russia fired hundreds of drones, artillery and a ballistic missile at Ukraine, defying US President Donald Trump's calls for Moscow to end the three-year conflict. Trump on Monday called on Russia to reach a peace deal within 50 days or face severe sanctions.

Gusev said 24 people were injured in the attack, 17 of whom were hospitalised. Most had suffered cuts and shrapnel wounds. One man was in a coma, while another had suffered lung damage. Eyewitnesses posted footage of the aftermath of the Ukrainian drone attack on the city, which showed smashed windows and burning cars. Gusev said the wreckage of one drone had landed in the city centre, damaging several apartments in high-rise buildings, while houses were also damaged in the suburbs. Ukrainian drones also struck Russia's central Lipetsk region overnight, with Governor Igor Artamonov saying a drone had hit an industrial area in the city of Yelets, injuring one person. Telegram breaking news channel ASTRA studied eyewitness footage and determined that a fire had broken out in an industrial area near the premises of Energia, a power company. The Russian Defence Ministry said air defences had shot down 55 Ukrainian drones overnight in all — 32 over the Belgorod region, 12 over the Voronezh region, three over the Lipetsk region, one each over the Rostov and Kursk regions, and six over the Black Sea.
