The Handmaid's Tale: Why Did Alexis Bledel Pull Out of Emmy Awards 2025 Run?

The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 brought on the finale of the highly loved series. Bringing back one of the most fan-favourite characters, Dr. Emily Malek/Ofglen, Alexis Bledel managed to shock viewers with her appearance, which became one of the most talked-about cameos of the year. She managed to give a very notable end to her character, adding value to the Hulu series, much to the delight of those watching. Despite previously applying for an Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series nomination, she has now withdrawn it. The Handmaid's Tale Season 6 has a change of nominations Alexis Bledel will not be a part of the 2025 Emmy Awards race for the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. A new set of rules has been released for the upcoming anticipated awards night, which prohibits anyone nominated in a lead or supporting category for the same show from winning this particular award. According to a Variety report, Alexis Bledel was notified by the Television Academy that she would not be in the running for the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series award. She'll instead be moved to the supporting actress race. The Handmaid's Tale season 6 will not be adding Alexis Bledel's name to their nominations, and she will exit the race, choosing to stay away from the ballot, which is set for June 12. Previously, a similar situation broke down when, in 2018, the actress was not allowed to enter the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series competition after appearing in seven of the thirteen episodes. She is now eligible for a win in the Supporting Actress in a Drama Series award, just as she was 7 years ago. Other actors affected include Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd for their appearances in Only Murders in the Building. Meanwhile, The Handmaid's Tale is all set to have around 35 nominations at this year's Emmy Awards, across Primetime Emmy Awards and The Creative Arts Emmy Awards. The show has so far managed to take home 15 trophies, proving a historical run for a streamer.

Emmys: What to know about the Emmy Awards voting rules

June not only means summer, but the start of Emmy voting as well. How does Emmy voting work? Ahead, everything to know about the Television Academy's rules and regulations on picking Emmy nominees and winners. The Emmys are the TV Academy's annual awards ceremony recognizing excellence and achievement in television. There are a number of different types of Emmy Awards (Daytime, Sports, Student, News and Documentary), but the most high-profile one is the Primetime Emmy Awards, honoring prime-time TV programming. The first Primetime Emmys ceremony was held in 1949. More from GoldDerby 'We don't half-ass anything': Simone Biles reflects on her Netflix docuseries and hints at 2028 Olympics Alexis Bledel withdraws from Emmy consideration for 'The Handmaid's Tale' due to rule change 'The Traitors' slays WeHo Pride with a drag show and parade featuring Parvati Shallow, Anna Kendrick, and more celebs This year's Emmys ceremony is set for Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025. The weekend prior, the two Creative Arts Emmys ceremonies, honoring below-the-line achievements, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 6 and Sunday, Sept. 7. The 2025 Emmy nominations will be announced on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. There are more than 26,000 members in the TV Academy. Each member belongs to one of 31 peer groups, each representing specific fields of expertise (acting, directing, writing, etc.). Only active members are eligible to vote. Before voting even begins, contenders need to be submitted to appear on the ballot in a specific category. If it's not on the ballot, you cannot vote for it. Similarly, if a performer was submitted in lead, you cannot vote for them in supporting or guest. Writing, directing, guest acting, and below-the-line hopefuls must also submit an episode from the season that reflects their best work. For nominations, all active members can vote for all program categories except for animated programs or documentary/nonfiction programs. Peer groups vote in peer group categories — actors vote for actors, directors vote for directors, writers vote for writers, etc. Good question. Since 2020, Best Comedy Series and Best Drama Series have been set at eight slots. Those don't change. That same year, the TV Academy adopted the proportional rule for all other categories. That means the number of slots per category is determined by the number of submissions. The breakdown is: 20 to 80 submissions: 5 nominees 81 to 160 submissions: 6 nominees 161 to 240 submissions: 7 nominees 241 or more submissions: 8 nominees Acting categories across the same genre and designation, like Best Drama Actor and Best Drama Actress, will have the same number of slots (rounded to the higher number) to achieve parity. For categories with zero to seven submissions, submissions will be screened by the peer group. Any entry, up to two, that receives 70 percent approval will get a nomination. For categories with eight to 19 submissions, the number of submissions will be divided by four and rounded to the nearest whole number to determine the number of slots. From 2017 to 2022, the unlimited ballot was in effect. That meant voters could check off as many selections in a category as they wished. In 2023, the TV Academy put a cap in place. Ballot slots are now capped at the number of nominations for that category as determined by the number of submissions. If there are going to be seven nominees in Best Drama Supporting Actor, you can only vote for seven people max. The order in which you list the nominees does not matter. The highest vote-getters are nominated. After nominations, program and non-guest acting nominees have to submit episodes to represent their best work of the season. Performers choose one episode. Comedies and dramas choose six. Animated, documentary, reality, and variety programs choose one. Children's programs choose two. Limited series and limited leads can submit the complete season. Voters are supposed to watch the episode submissions on the TV Academy's streaming platform before voting, but that's a whole lotta TV to watch in very little time. Just like in the nominations round, all active voters can vote in the program categories, and the other categories are restricted to peer group voting. Voters choose one winner per category. Nominations voting begins on Thursday, June 12, 2025. Nominations voting ends on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 10 p.m. PT. Emmy nominations are announced on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 Final voting begins on Monday, Aug. 18, 2025. Final voting ends on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025, at 10 p.m. PT. Alexis Bledel's Dating History Over The Years Includes A Few ‘Gilmore Girls' Loves, Too

Alexis Bledel is best known for playing Rory Gilmore in Gilmore Girls, a character whose love life fans are very passionate about. And Alexis dated some of her onscreen boyfriends too! Earlier this week, my phone buzzed with a text from a friend I hadn't spoken to in three months. 'Dean, Jess, Tristan, or Logan?' she asked. Sensing the urgency of the situation, I immediately responded, 'Logan 100000 percent.' I've elected myself president of the Logan Huntzberger Fan Club since the first time I watched Gilmore Girls. I firmly believe that Logan is the best partner for Rory. Sorry to all the Jess girlies out there — and if we're looking at off-screen relationships, that includes Alexis Bledel. Any Gilmore Girls fan worth their coffee knows Rory Gilmore's dating history like the back of their hand, but Alexis Bledel's dating history is much more low-key. The star is much more private, but just like Rory, she's captured her fair share of hearts over the years, including two of her Gilmore Girls love interests! Rory may have Dean, Jess, Tristan, and Logan, but Alexis has Jared, Chris, Milo, John, and Vincent. This might be controversial, but I think Dean was the best first boyfriend Rory could have had. As far as we know, Jared Padalecki was the best first boyfriend Alexis Bledel could have had, too. The Supernatural alum confirmed he and Bledel dated while filming Gilmore Girls Season 1. 'When Alexis and I met, we were both 17 years old and were both Texans and kind of in this new, strange city and I was like, 'Hey, want to go out to dinner?'" he told Glamour in 2021. 'I don't know if we tried to keep it a secret. I wish it was scandalous or something! I think it was more kind of silly.' I guess he really was 'her Dean.' Bledel may have dated two of her Gilmore Girls love interests, but she dated three of her Gilmore Girls co-stars. Chris Heuisler had a small role as a Stars Hollow High basketball player in Season 2 Episode 11, titled 'Secrets and Loans.' The pair didn't interact onscreen, but casting director Mara Casey told Life & Style that they were briefly together offscreen. Okay, even though I'm Team Logan, I happily admit that Rory and Jess had crazy onscreen chemistry. That's probably because their actors dated for three years in real life! They started dating halfway through filming Season 2 (which was around 2002 and was the season Jess moves to Stars Hollow) and broke up in 2006. They've stayed on good terms since; Ventimiglia even Bledel on her Emmy nomination in 2017. Alexis Bledel briefly dated this British model between 2010 and 2011. They were photographed attending a for Kate Spade's new fragrance in September 2010. Bledel guest-starred on Season 5 of Mad Men as the mistress of Pete Campbell (played by Vincent Kartheiser). Their illicit affair was totally above board in real life. They waited to begin dating two months after filming wrapped, got engaged a year later, and tied the knot in a in June 2014, according to US. The couple were careful to keep the details of their relationship private, so the world was happily surprised to learn — from , who played Luke Danes on Gilmore Girls — that they welcomed a son in fall 2015. In 2022, Us Weekly reported that Kartheiser had filed for divorce after eight years of marriage. Bledel currently appears to be single. I may be on Team Logan for Rory, but I'm on Team Alexis for Rory's real-life counterpart. Check out for even more celebrity relationship content! This post has been updated.

Alexis Bledel Withdraws From Emmy Race for ‘The Handmaid's Tale' Due to New Guest Actor Rules (EXCLUSIVE)

Alexis Bledel has withdrawn herself from Emmy consideration for 'The Handmaid's Tale' following rule changes to the guest acting categories. Bledel, who plays Dr. Emily Malek/Ofglen in the Hulu drama, had been submitted for outstanding guest actress in a drama series for her appearance in the series finale, '610 – The Handmaid's Tale.' However, due to a newly enforced Emmy rule disqualifying actors previously nominated in a lead or supporting category for the same show, the Television Academy notified Bledel and her team that she would be moved to the supporting actress race. As a result, she opted to withdraw her name from consideration and will not appear on the nomination ballot when voting begins on June 12. More from Variety 'The Studio' and 'Hacks' Are Two of the Best Shows Ever About Hollywood - But Are They Too Inside or PTSD-Inducing? How 'The Studio,' 'Yellowjackets,' 'Monsters' and 'White Lotus' Make Bad Behavior Appealing Emmy Voters Don't Forget: The Powerful Women of 'The Righteous Gemstones' Bledel won the guest actress Emmy in 2017 and was nominated again in 2020 and 2021. In 2018, after appearing in seven of 13 episodes that season, she was deemed ineligible as a guest and was nominated instead in the supporting drama actress category. That's sole supporting drama actress nom has made her ineligible to compete in guest. The updated policy has sparked confusion and criticism across the industry. Meryl Streep, for example, will be ineligible for guest actress consideration for her role in Hulu's 'Only Murders in the Building,' despite appearing in just four of the 10 episodes. She will now compete in the supporting comedy actress category. Meanwhile, Paul Rudd was nearly eligible for guest actor in the same series but appeared in one episode too many. Rudd plays two different characters across Seasons 3 and 4: Ben Glenroy, a murdered Hollywood actor, and Glen Stubbins, his Irish-born former stunt double, used as a comedic twist in the upcoming season. A supporting drama actress awards run for her sole episode appearance would put her against her 'Handmaid's Tale' co-stars, in addition to multiple women from 'Andor,' 'Severance' and 'The White Lotus.' Despite Bledel's withdrawal, 'The Handmaid's Tale' still has 35 entries across both the Primetime and Creative Arts Emmy categories. Notable acting submissions include Elisabeth Moss for lead actress and for directing the penultimate episode, 'Execution.' Supporting actor submissions include Bradley Whitford, Max Minghella, and O-T Fagbenle, while Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley and Ann Dowd are entered in the supporting actress category. With Bledel out of the guest actress category, Hulu still has Emmy winner Cherry Jones for episode '602' and D'Arcy Carden for episode '608.' Since its debut, 'The Handmaid's Tale' has earned 76 Emmy nominations and 15 wins, including the historic outstanding drama series win in its first season, the first ever for a streaming platform.
