Dodgers' Tanner Scott (elbow) placed on IL; Alexis Diaz recalled

July 23 - For the first time since 2021, reliever Tanner Scott will be spending time on the injured list. The Los Angeles Dodgers placed him on the 15-day IL on Tuesday with left elbow inflammation. The Dodgers recalled reliever Alexis Diaz from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move. Scott suffered the injury Monday evening in a closing opportunity vs. the Minnesota Twins. After missing with a slider in the dirt, the lefty reliever looked uncomfortable. Manager Dave Roberts visited the mound and pulled Scott in favor of Kirby Yates. Yates earned his third save of the year in a 5-2 Dodgers victory. It has been an inconsistent first season in LA for Scott, a 9-year veteran. He has 19 saves, but he leads the majors with seven blown saves, and his 4.14 ERA is the highest since his first season in Miami (2022, 4.31). Scott did not allow an earned run in five postseason appearances for San Diego last season and signed a four-year, $72 million deal with the Dodgers in the offseason. Diaz, a former closer in Cincinnati, was acquired by the Dodgers in late May. He spent one day with the major league club in July but was sent back to Triple-A when Tyler Glasnow came off the injured list on July 9. --Field Level Media

Dodgers place left-hander Tanner Scott on IL with elbow inflammation

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers placed left-handed reliever Tanner Scott on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday with left elbow inflammation, yet another blow to an ailing bullpen. In a corresponding move, right-hander Alexis Diaz was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City. The Dodgers already are without late-inning relief options in right-handers Blake Treinen (forearm), Michael Kopech (knee) and Brusdar Graterol (shoulder), who has yet to pitch this season. Treinen is close to a return. Just under 24 hours after Scott was removed from Monday night's game with a forearm injury, manager Dave Roberts expressed optimism that the issue is not as bad as initially feared. Scott underwent an MRI on Tuesday, but the club did not immediately reveal the results. 'Just right now, (Scott) talking to the training staff, we feel good about it,' Roberts said. 'That's better than what we thought last night and hopefully we get some good news from Dr. (Neal) ElAttrache.' Scott, who turned 31 on Tuesday, is in the first year of a four-year, $72 million contract and has struggled to a 1-2 record with a 4.14 ERA in 47 appearances. He has 19 saves and seven blown saves. Diaz, 28, was acquired in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds on May 29 and has yet to make an appearance with the Dodgers. The 2023 National League All-Star has a 6.20 ERA in 14 combined appearances at Triple-A for Oklahoma City and Louisville. He gave up eight runs in six innings with the Reds before the trade. ___ AP MLB:

Dodgers Call Up Former Reds All-Star Reliever Alexis Diaz

Dodgers Call Up Former Reds All-Star Reliever Alexis Diaz originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Dodgers have been going through a lot of pitchers this season. Whether it's due to injury or poor play, the Dodgers' rotation and bullpen have seen a lot of pitchers make appearances. Advertisement Ahead of the Dodgers' second game against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Dodgers, according to Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic, are calling up former Cincinnati Reds All-Star closer Alexis Diaz to the Majors. The Dodgers landed Diaz in late May for prospect Mike Villani. After spending three seasons with the Red, Diaz struggled in 2025 and only made six appearances all year before his trade to the Dodgers. In the three years prior, Diaz was a solid reliever. In 2022, he had a 1.84 ERA in 63.2 innings pitched with an 83-33 strikeout-to-walk ratio. In his 2023 season, he was named an All-Star and finished the year with a 3.07 ERA in 67.1 innings. Advertisement Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts (30) walks to the mound for a pitching change in the eighth inning against the Houston Astros at Dodger Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images He took a step back in 2024, finishing the year with a 3.99 ERA in 56.1 innings pitched with 55 strikeouts to 33 walks. But, in his six innings pitched this season, before the trade, Diaz had a 12.00 ERA with three strikeouts and five walks. The 28-year-old righty is making his return to the big leagues after being traded to the Dodgers, and pitching in the minors with a 9.64 ERA. While he wasn't great for the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate, the team is still trying him out in the Majors for the first time since acquiring the former All-Star in May. If the Dodgers can get something out of Diaz, it'd be a huge addition to the bullpen. He's also under team control through 2027, so a strong showing would be a long-term benefit as well. Advertisement But, for now, Diaz will look to make his return to the Majors, potentially facing off against the Brewers, a team he's faced plenty of times in his MLB career thus far. Dodgers' Dave Roberts drops major update on Alexis Diaz

The post Dodgers' Dave Roberts drops major update on Alexis Diaz appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Los Angeles Dodgers' pitching staff has been on a roller coaster all season. Dave Roberts has had to come up with new strategies as the team navigated injuries. However, it looks like the worst is behind him. Tyler Glasnow faced live Dodgers hitters and Blake Snell got through another successful bullpen this week. Alexis Diaz, a reliever Los Angeles acquired from the Cincinnati Reds, could be back with the team soon as well. Advertisement Diaz has been on the injured list since the end of April. The Reds traded him to the Dodgers in exchange for Mike Villani one month later. Since then, the former All-Star has been slowly working his way back onto the mound. He made his debut in Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday. According to The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya, Roberts is happy with Diaz's progress. However, he would not set a date for his expected return to the major leagues. Los Angeles is at the top of the National League West and have the freedom to be patient with Diaz's recovery. Roberts' bullpen has been good so far this season behind Tanner Scott, one of the more efficient closers in the league. Fans wonder what Diaz's role will be when he comes back. Regardless of his role, the flamethrower is an asset at the end of close games. After a shaky start to the season, things are turning around for the Dodgers' pitchers. Glasnow and Snell are still a couple of weeks away, but their return would leave Roki Sasaki and Tony Gonsolin as the only starters still on the IL. Advertisement The bullpen is a different story, though. Blake Treinen and Evan Phillips are still working their way back from a forearm and elbow injury, respectively. Despite their absence, Roberts has cobbled together a serviceable group of relievers. The addition of Diaz came as a surprise for Los Angeles. However, it could end up being a big time addition, especially if Scott slips up or gets hurt. His recovery continues to go well and the Dodgers await the return of another All-Star talent.
